Chapter 554 - 527: Wolf Pack Attack
Chapter 554: Chapter 527: Wolf Pack Attack
Li Chen looked at Zhang Jing’s pale face, furrowed his brow, and carefully checked her pulse, pupils, and heartbeat.
Of course, when checking her heartbeat, the position of his hand had to be closer to a certain area, which almost drove a group of college students to rush over and beat him up.
But they also knew that Li Chen was trying to save someone, and it would be too irrational for them to cause trouble at this time.
After the examination, Li Chen furrowed his brow, but soon he relaxed.
"Big Brother, what exactly is wrong with Zhang Jing?" A female student couldn’t help asking after seeing Li Chen finish the checkup. She seemed to be Zhang Jing’s close friend.
It was she who had first noticed Zhang Jing’s abnormal condition.
"Have you been with her all the time?" Li Chen asked the girl.
"Yes, Jingjing and I have been living together since we left Miaojiang." The girl nodded vigorously.
"Did you guys not eat anything when you came?"
"How did you know?" The girl looked at Li Chen in surprise.
"And, does Zhang Jing also have some symptoms of dysmenorrhea?" Li Chen asked again.
Hearing this question, the girl’s face turned red; clearly, she was embarrassed to discuss such a topic in public.
However, now understanding the gravity of human life, she reluctantly nodded towards Li Chen.
"I understand." Li Chen immediately picked Zhang Jing up: "Make way, the air inside the car is too polluted for treatment."
"But..."
"Don’t ’but’ me. Do you want to save her or not?" Li Chen frowned and spoke.
The group of college students suddenly fell silent.
Compared to living in the Ivory Tower, they were fundamentally different from someone like Li Chen who had been struggling outside for a long time; just the aura of being in high positions that Li Chen carried was enough to dissipate any thoughts of resistance from them.
Having taken Zhang Jing out of the car, Li Chen pressed one hand on her chest and called out to the people behind him: "Give me a bottle of water."
"Oh, oh!"
A girl immediately handed a bottle of mineral water to Li Chen.
Without another word, Li Chen unscrewed the cap and poured the water into his mouth.
The onlookers were somewhat speechless, having thought that the water was meant to help the girl, not for him to drink.
And the girl who handed over the water flushed even more, as she had taken a few sips from that bottle herself...
However, in the next moment, everyone was stunned again.
Because Li Chen suddenly kissed Zhang Jing on the lips.
While transferring the water in his mouth, the hand on Zhang Jing’s chest suddenly injected True Qi into her body, helping to prevent the water from causing her to choke.
"Mmm..."
Zhang Jing, who had been unconscious, finally showed a slight reaction.
"She moved! Zhang Jing just moved!"
People couldn’t help but get excited.
However, Li Chen did not release his mouth but instead abruptly slapped the back of Zhang Jing’s neck.
"Slap!"
It wasn’t the sound of Li Chen’s slap; it was a slap on his face.
Releasing Zhang Jing, who now stared back in anger, Li Chen shrugged his shoulders without any intention of explaining and directly boarded the bus.
He had no thoughts about that girl and wasn’t inclined to explain himself; with his personality, he wasn’t the type to justify such things.
Sitting on the bus, soon enough, the girl called Zhang Jing reboarded the bus, came to his side, and softly said, "I’m sorry, I was too impulsive earlier... Thank you for saving me."
Li Chen, having no intention of holding a grudge against a young girl, waved his hand and said, "It’s all right, go on and chat."
"Um, Big Brother, may I please know your name?"
"Li Chen." Li Chen said calmly.
"Thank you for saving me, Brother Li Chen," Zhang Jing said sincerely, nodding her head.
Then, seeing that Li Chen had no intention of continuing the conversation, she went back to her seat.
"Remember to eat more. Otherwise, you might experience the same problem again." Watching her back, Li Chen spoke.
Zhang Jing’s silhouette paused, then she turned around and showed Li Chen a big smile, nodding vigorously.
"His name is Li Chen?"
"So awesome! Zhang Jing passed out and he woke her up just like that, and it seems like she’s perfectly fine now!"
"Really, Jingjing’s complexion has become much rosier."
What they didn’t know was that Zhang Jing had fainted due to not eating and consequently becoming weak. Coupled with some discomfort she originally had, the long journey’s turbulence naturally led to her fainting.
And Li Chen had used True Qi to replace the Energy consumption in Zhang Jing’s body, providing her with the energy needed to continue functioning.
However, it was just a temporary fix.
Once they arrived at their destination, Li Chen alighted from the vehicle.
The deeper they went, the less populated it became.
This area was already at the borders of Miaojiang, surrounded not only by vast dense forests but also by endless plains.
However, compared to those deep forests, these plains were much safer.
And now, Li Chen was walking across such a landscape.
Walking along, Li Chen was somewhat surprised to find that the buildings around were not very tall. Upon asking, he learned that this place was also a region with frequent earthquakes; if the buildings were too high, they were more likely to collapse.
Even though they weren’t very tall, these buildings all looked as though they were about to collapse... Li Chen looked around at the ancient buildings that clearly had seen better days and thought to himself speechlessly.
He randomly picked a place that seemed to be nominally a hotel and settled in temporarily.
What he hadn’t expected, however, was that the group of college students he had encountered on the bus today were also here.
"Look quick! It’s him, the one who saved Jingjing!"
"It really is him! What’s his name, Li Chen, right? Is he staying here too?"
Li Chen glanced at the group of college students but had no intention of striking up a conversation. He checked into a room and was about to leave.
"Hey, wait, uh... Li Chen, ah! Brother Cheen!" A few of the male students approached Li Chen.
"Hello, Brother Cheen, we are..."
"I’m not interested in knowing who you are," Li Chen said indifferently.
"Uh..." The color drained from the face of the student who was speaking, but he quickly recovered, appearing to be quite adept at social interactions.
"We are a group of college students touring Miaojiang," the student said with a smile. "We were a bit impulsive on the bus, so we’ve come to apologize to you."
"Not only that, your medical skills are truly amazing; you managed to revive Zhang Jing on the spot..."
"What are you trying to say?" Li Chen glanced at the guy and asked, slightly amused.
"Um, could you teach us a few tricks? With those healing skills, we wouldn’t be so helpless when we’re out and about like today," the student said, scratching the back of his head and looking embarrassed.
The other several male students around him nodded in agreement.
"I don’t have time to take apprentices," Li Chen said flatly and turned to leave.
Watching Li Chen’s retreating figure, the few male students exchanged looks, then sighed helplessly.
That night.
The wind was strong here at night, so strong that even the clouds seemed to scatter, revealing the crescent moon in the sky.
Though it was not a full moon night, there were creatures that did not necessarily need a full moon night to hunt.
In the dark of night, under the intermittent moonlight, pairs of green eyes emerged from the plain, fixing their gaze on a nearby human village with greed and bloodlust in their eyes.
"Howl—"
"The wolves are coming!"
"It’s a pack of wolves!! Everyone, hurry and lock your doors!!"
The run-down, backward village sounded an alarm immediately.
The residents often encountered packs of wolves, but for a pack to actively attack the village like this was extremely rare.
"Howl—"
The wolves had barely given the people any time to react before they charged into the village.
"What’s going on?"
Li Chen also heard the commotion outside, frowned, and left his dirty and disorderly room for the hotel lobby.
However, as soon as he walked over, Li Chen smelled a pungent scent of blood.
"Ah!!"
Just then, a scream rang out nearby.
Li Chen turned to look and saw a group of students, some trembling, huddling to one side while a few male students were trying hard to block the doorway.
"Hmm?" Li Chen’s form suddenly paused as a whooshing sound came from behind him.
Without any hesitation, Li Chen turned his head and threw a punch.
His fist seemed to hit something solid.
Moreover, Li Chen even heard a clear sound of bones breaking.
Looking down, he saw a wolf that, when standing, was almost as tall as a person.
"The window is broken!"
"Quick, block the window!"
"They’re getting in!"
Seeing one wolf after another jump through the window, the group of students stopped trying to block the door and instead turned to run.
In the end, a group of people, including the owner, other travelers, and locals, were cornered by the pack of wolves. Their eyes showed panic mixed with desperation as the wolves approached.
"Wolves?"
Li Chen raised his eyebrows.
The crowd suddenly turned their heads, only to see that, somehow, Li Chen was already standing behind them.
"Brother Cheen?"
Seeing Li Chen, the group of college students initially brightened up, but their expressions quickly dimmed.
Because they realized that in this situation, even Li Chen probably had no solution.
In everyone’s minds, Li Chen was just a doctor, not a warrior capable of taking on an entire pack of wolves by himself.
However, in the next moment, everyone’s eyes widened.
Because they saw Li Chen simply walk out from among the crowd.
His demeanor was as if he were taking a leisurely stroll.
And in his hands, he carried no weapons.
However, a few observant students noticed that the pack of wolves, for the first time, stepped back as Li Chen advanced!
