"Excuse me, excuse me." Li Chen squeezed through the crowd, then looked up and saw that on the rooftop eight floors up, a girl was sitting on the edge, looking down as if ready to jump at any moment.

"What’s going on here?" Li Chen asked someone nearby.

"Oh, you don’t know?" An old man spoke up, "I heard this girl just had her heart broken. Found out her boyfriend was cheating, two-timing her, and she’s devastated. Ah, people these days, why are the youth like this?"

After speaking, the old man heaved a sigh.

Another young man chimed in: "That’s because this girl hasn’t met me. If she had, she wouldn’t think of jumping."

"How long has she been up there?" Li Chen looked up at the girl.

"Probably over an hour now, just sitting there. The police have arrived."

"Hey, how can you talk like that? What if she really jumps? Can you take that responsibility?" Someone immediately retorted, stirring up the crowd.

First responders were setting up an air cushion below, just in case the girl really jumped, they could at least attempt a rescue. Several police cars were parked nearby, and yellow tape was strung up around the building to keep people back.

A big crowd had gathered to watch the spectacle.

Li Chen saw that the police were likely trying to persuade her from above, the situation was still at a stalemate.

Faced with this situation, Li Chen couldn’t just stand by, so he prepared to go up.

"Hey, hey, hey, where do you think you’re going? You can’t go in now," the guard policeman immediately said.

"I’m a policeman, here to save her." Li Chen said, and with a flick of his left hand, a police badge appeared.

The policeman looked at the badge, puzzled, while Li Chen had already slipped passed the yellow tape and was quickly heading towards the staircase.

But the policeman suddenly realized something. Wait, that police badge, isn’t it mine?

Fuck, did he take my badge?

The policeman quickly rummaged through his pocket and found his own badge still there; this only increased his confusion.

By this time, Li Chen had already reached the rooftop, pushed the door open, and found several policemen there, Yu Yueying among them.

"Who are you? Get down, the police are working here," one of the policemen said as he saw Li Chen come up and went to stop him.

Li Chen looked around; a policewoman was trying to talk the girl down, but the girl was still very unstable. The other policemen stood back; even if they wanted to rescue her, they couldn’t get close. If they did, the girl became extremely agitated.

They had considered going up from an eighth-floor window to rescue her from below, but the risk was too great, and it wasn’t viable.

"He’s one of us, let him come over," Yu Yueying said at that moment. Li Chen gave her a slight smile and then walked over.

"What’s the situation now?" Li Chen stood beside Yu Yueying and looked at the girl.

Yu Yueying frowned, "She’s very unstable. We’ve been trying to talk her down for an hour, but nothing’s worked."

"Relationship issues, huh? They’re always like this," Li Chen shrugged.

"You talk as if you’ve been through it yourself," Yu Yueying glanced at him and then turned away with a frown, "The situation is bad, and we don’t have many options."

"Then leave it to me," Li Chen said with a little smile.

Yu Yueying was startled, but remembering what Li Chen had done before, she nodded, "Okay, but don’t provoke her, take it slow."

"Don’t worry."

Li Chen walked towards the girl and said, "Miss, what’s bothering you? Jumping off a building is indeed one way to go."

Upon hearing this, the negotiator who was comforting her startled. Fuck, who talks like that? Are you sure you’re not here to egg her on to jump?

The girl was also taken aback and looked at Li Chen.

"When I was young, I felt desperate too," Li Chen said with a small smile and continued, "Like you, I once faced a desperate ground in life, with the twenty-third layer below my feet."

"You jumped?" the girl looked at Li Chen.

"Yeah, had to jump," Li Chen smiled but thought back to that day when he stood atop a high-rise in the chilly wind, a crowd behind him with rocket launchers and pistols aimed at him. Damn right, had to jump.

But at a height of twenty-three stories, Li Chen couldn’t possibly jump down for real. Even though he was the Main God, the height was simply too great, and the impact from such a fall couldn’t be negated. Li Chen’s limit was around a dozen floors or so; twenty-three stories were just too high.

At that time, Li Chen had only managed to grab onto a protruding girder during the fall and then punched through the glass, that was all.

Of course, the height this girl was at was merely a meager eight stories. Li Chen was still completely confident in rescuing her.

"You’d jump down, and there’d be no issue?" The girl sounded skeptical, incredulous that a fall from twenty-three stories wouldn’t be harmful?

"How can there not be? Isn’t there one right in front of you?" Li Chen winked again.

The girl blinked in surprise, and so did the surrounding police. Damn, this guy’s got some thick skin.

"..." The girl didn’t know what to say, this guy really was shameless.

"I’m serious, look at me," said Li Chen with a serious face. "In one’s life, who hasn’t met a few scourges, right? Once you get past this, it’s a new beginning. Plus, haven’t you thought about your parents? If they saw a photo of you dead on the ground on the news, what would they think? Do you really want them to bury their child?"

After this speech, the policemen who initially wanted to pull Li Chen back stepped away, this guy actually made some sense.

Hearing Li Chen’s words, the girl began to hesitate. She didn’t really want to jump; it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing, a rush of heat to the head that had mostly passed by now.

Seeing the girl’s hesitation, Li Chen spoke again, "Of course, if you really can’t get past it, then just jump. It’ll be over quickly and that might be good too. Later, your parents can just have another child."

The policemen didn’t have time for anger; they all rushed towards where the girl was in an attempt to catch her. However, at that moment, a figure swept by like the wind and stretched out a hand, snatching the girl’s arm out of the air!

Down below, the onlookers who were expecting the worst suddenly saw a hand appear above, grabbing the girl’s arm, suspending her in mid-air.

The policemen behind were also stunned but then rushed up to help pull the girl back to safety.

"You planning on keeping it this suspenseful next time?" Yu Yueying walked over, breathing a sigh of relief, "You nearly scared me half to death."

Li Chen chuckled, "When have I ever failed?"

Watching the girl being rescued and taken away, Li Chen remarked, "This young girl, really isn’t thinking straight."

"Says the one who’s acting like an old sage," Yu Yueying said with a speechless expression, Li Chen was barely twenty-four and was already pretending to be so mature.

"Where have you been these days? I haven’t seen you around," Yu Yueying asked.

"What, you missed me?" Li Chen chuckled, winking at Yu Yueying mischievously.

Li Chen shrugged, "Then I won’t tell you. If you don’t miss me, why should I say anything?"
