Chapter 493: Chapter 493: Dust Settled?
Just before the press conference ended, Yuran scanned the crowd below and laughed, "Today, I’ve seen the faces of my journalist friends who tried to take me down. When I become untouchable in the future, please don’t cry tears of sorrow because you can’t interview me."
The crowd: "..."
Journalists: "..."
Live audience: "..."
"She really dares to say such things. Is she not worried that her popularity will gradually be worn down by those who keep bringing up old news? Yuran is really something else."
"After watching the interview live today, I finally, finally know why I like her."
"I like her because she’s Little Koi. Haven’t you all noticed? Recently, all the young ladies whom Yuran replies to on her official Weibo have passed their ideal high school exams. Forget it, I’m going to sit tight and make a wish for her response."
"Hold on, hold on, I’m going too."
"Let’s group up!"
The live commentary turned more amusing by the moment, and Xie Cheng couldn’t help but chuckle. He handed it to Qi Feng to read. Qi Feng looked at it several times and with a compassionate glance at the speechless journalists below, especially those named by Yuran, he pitied those who probably never stood a chance again.
Qi Feng sighed, resting his hands behind his head, "Ah, if only they knew, why bother in the first place?"
Yuran’s potential was enormous. She had likely planned her future meticulously: a girl with charm, acting skills, public appeal, top-notch resources, and considerable wealth behind her, destined for explosive fame.
Conversely, her rise to fame could happen very swiftly.
The journalists sensed something slipping away, but none dared to make a scene there. The press conference was broadcast live, and they knew just how many people were watching. Excluding Bo Yan’s fans, at least one third were Yuran’s fans.
...
The press conference was soon covered by major media outlets, and Yuran’s casual fans increased significantly. Messages poured in for her, pushing the topic to the top of the trending list.
She wasn’t concerned about these messages and instead had Bo Yan listen and report back to her. Inside Qi Feng’s office, Xie Cheng found a chair to sit on, slowly saying, "The lawyer and the police have now arrived at the Ji Family mansion, but the old man from the Ji Family wants to have a phone conversation with you."
Xie Cheng raised his eyebrows, reporting this rather nonchalantly.
Bo Yan looked up from the tablet he was holding and noticed Xie Cheng watching the drama unfold, his eyebrows slightly raised, "Do you think I’ve been giving you too much free time lately?"
Xie Cheng’s smile faded, and he straightened up, "Bo Yan, the Great Actor, am I really free? There’s nobody busier than me in the company. Let me analyze this for you. If you really think I’m idling away, I’ll get busy immediately."
"Don’t talk, just give me the phone."
Xie Cheng hurriedly made the call and then handed it over to him. Yuran had sat next to him and moved closer to listen in. For Yuran’s convenience, Bo Yan switched on the speakerphone and lightly traced his finger across her face.
"Isn’t it better to be straightforward? If you want to listen, just say so. Would I ever not let you listen?"
Yuran: "..."
...
Receiving the call, Mr. Ji was quite surprised. At the Ji Family mansion, Bo Yan’s lawyer, along with the police, had arrived, bringing with them the evidence of malicious defamation and the proofs of malicious harm involving bribes to assault others, both supplied by Bo Yan.
The police had every reason to arrest him, verify the facts, and then proceed with Ji Zexiu’s case in the normal legal process.
Although Ji Family’s lawyers had already arrived at the house, they clearly had no way to counter the fully substantiated charges against them.
Bo Yan was adept at targeting people’s vulnerabilities, and even if he didn’t pursue a career as a celebrity, any path he took would not be difficult for him—not everyone is born in Rome.
He stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and answered the call from Bo Yan that he had previously dialed.
"Nephew Bo Yan."
"The familial relations seem quite mixed up, Mr. Ji; I’m not very familiar with your Ji Family." Bo Yan never spared anyone’s feelings, especially when dealing with those who had harmed someone he cared about, not showing them any good face at all.
Mr. Ji was somewhat relieved that he was standing far from the phone; otherwise, how would he maintain his dignity? "Bo Yan, we don’t have many children in the Ji Family, could you please..."
He hadn’t finished his phrase when Bo Yan cut him off.
Bo Yan said, "Mr. Ji, since I’ve gone this far, you should know that I have no intention of letting Ji Zexiu off the hook. Moreover, among the evidence I’ve gathered, which piece has slandered Ji Zexiu?
If there is any, Mr. Ji, you can point it out, and I’ll withdraw the charges. If not, this is simply me exercising my rights. My wife is the only one I have; anyone who tries to harm her, I won’t let them off easy. This is my bottom line, my reverse scale;
Don’t mention strangers to me, even people from my own family shouldn’t think about bullying her."
Bo Yan’s hand was being held by Yuran, and even as he spoke, he gripped Yuran’s hand even tighter.
Yuran, trying to soothe him, leaned in and kissed him on the corner of his lips, treating Qi Feng and Xie Cheng as if they were invisible, unexpectedly giving them a face full of ’dog food,’ much to their displeasure. Couldn’t they at least maintain some decorum?
Even though it was public, did they have to be so blatant?
It was utterly annoying.
Mocking them for not having girlfriends, weren’t they?
Mr. Ji was so blocked by Bo Yan’s words that he couldn’t say anything else, but in the end, he still pleaded, "Could you please show some leniency?"
Bo Yan suddenly burst out with aggression, "Mr. Ji, have you seen the evidence I provided?"
Mr. Ji was at a loss for words, "I have."
Bo Yan snorted, "Since you’ve seen it, then you should understand, previously Ji Zexiu wanted to cause Yuran’s death, and Yuran was just lucky to survive. If you put yourself in my place, would you ask me for leniency if I begged you?"
Mr. Ji was speechless, since when did an old man get lectured by someone younger without being able to raise his head?
The call was ended by Bo Yan.
Sitting on the sofa in the living room with his wrists in handcuffs, Zexiu, with a faintly amused look, watched Mr. Ji approach and scoffed mockingly, "Grandfather, isn’t it a bit late now to play loving grandfather and grandson here at my expense? I don’t need the Ji Family’s lawyer, and of course, I don’t want you to intervene in this matter anymore."
Mr. Ji suddenly seemed much older, and two plainclothes police officers helped Zexiu to stand up, one of them addressing Mr. Ji, "Mr. Ji, we can take him now, right? We’ve delayed long enough, please don’t make it difficult for us."
The lawyer from Bo Yan’s side pushed up his glasses, strictly business-like, "Take him away, no need for discussions; the evidence is conclusive. If Mr. Ji has any complaints, he is welcome to submit new evidence for an investigation in court."
Mr. Ji turned his back, "No need."
