My Fortune-Blessed Leading Lady -
Chapter 464: I Mean No Harm
Chapter 464: Chapter 464: I Mean No Harm
Yuran had just reached the staircase when Bo Yan scooped her up in a bridal carry, to her alarmed yelp, her arms wrapped around his neck. She glanced anxiously at the direction of the kitchen, "Seventh Brother, what are you doing?"
"Nothing much, just wanted to... hug you."
Yuran: "...Why?"
Her big eyes were full of bewilderment, followed by confusion. Bo Yan smiled against the corner of her lips, "Just because I wanted to..."
Yuran, "Huh?"
When Bo Yan was about to say something else, a series of gentle coughs came from the end of the staircase. Both looked up to see Commander Bo, holding Zhizhi’s little hand, his face stern.
"Dad..."
Yuran’s response was quick, hurriedly greeting him.
The expression on Commander Bo’s face was hard to describe. After a grunt, his gaze fell on Bo Yan, "Put Ranran down now. What’s this supposed to look like, doing that at home?"
Zhizhi’s expression was calm, even a bit puzzled as he looked up at his grandfather, "Grandpa, what’s wrong? Dad and Mom often hug each other at home, and Zhizhi joins in too."
Commander Bo: "..."
Faced with his grandson’s confusion, he suddenly didn’t know what to say.
He glared fiercely at Bo Yan and stroked Zhizhi’s head, "It’s good to love and cherish each other."
Zhizhi nodded happily, his little side-glance winking at Bo Yan as if to boast, quite pleased with himself.
Bo Yan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, setting Yuran down. Yuran quickly said, "Dad, Mom and Aunt Zhang made a fruit pie. She sent me to tell you and Zhizhi to come down and try it."
Commander Bo was intrigued, "Your mom helped make a fruit pie?"
Yuran was puzzled by Commander Bo’s question, but nodded affirmatively, slightly confused, "Yeah."
Commander Bo seemed for some reason agitated, and though Yuran wasn’t scared of him, she didn’t really understand the sudden change in his mood.
Bo Yan pulled her aside and whispered in her ear, "Last time Dad wanted to eat Mom’s Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, but Mom thought it was too troublesome and flat-out refused to make it. The Commander felt undervalued compared to his grandson, got jealous."
"Huh?"
Dad has those kinds of petty thoughts? Yuran was bemused, standing quietly next to Bo Yan, meek as a quail.
Although young, Zhizhi was rather contemplative, and noticing his parents whispering to each other, he tugged at Commander Bo’s sleeve. Commander Bo looked down at his tender little face, and his stern expression softened significantly.
"Zhizhi, what’s the matter?"
"Grandpa, Grandma made us a fruit pie. Don’t you like it? Zhizhi can help you eat."
Bo Yan couldn’t help laughing at the sight of his father’s exasperation.
Commander Bo glared at him sharply, "Shut up."
Bo Yan, "Okay."
Zhizhi, shifting his gaze between father and grandfather, took the lead downstairs with Commander Bo, "Grandpa, let’s go eat. Zhizhi will share half with you."
"Sounds good."
...
The fruit pie wasn’t very successful, but it wasn’t a total failure either.
Zhizhi ate with relish, as he was not quite like other children—he had exceptionally good table manners. Though he ate quickly, he never seemed rude, and remained graceful.
After tasting her own cooking, Bo Yan’s mother was not very satisfied. "Zhizhi baby, if it’s not tasty, you don’t have to eat it, okay?"
But Zhizhi shook his head. "Grandma has never made a fruit pie before. For a first attempt, it’s already very delicious. Next time, Grandma and Mrs. Zhang will surely make it even tastier. Zhizhi really likes it and wants to eat lots and lots."
Bo Yan’s mother smiled, "Since Zhizhi likes it so much, how about staying at Grandma’s for a couple of days, okay?"
I remembered that during dinner, both Bo Yan and Yuran were about to go back to work, and Zhizhi was about to start school.
The nursery school by the old mansion was very suitable for Zhizhi to attend.
They had also discussed with her that once Zhizhi started school, they would move to the old mansion to stay, so they could see Zhizhi every day.
Zhizhi blinked his eyes and looked at Yuran and Bo Yan. "Are Mom and Dad going to work?"
Yuran pulled out a tissue to wipe a bit of cream from his mouth, "Yes, Mommy is starting to work, and Daddy has work to do too. Grandpa has retired, so he can pick up Zhizhi from school with Grandma. Of course, Mommy thinks Zhizhi can do it on his own, right?"
Zhizhi nodded, "Mhm, Zhizhi can do it himself. So Mommy, will Daddy and you come to stay at Grandpa’s house? What if Zhizhi misses you?"
Yuran reached out and touched Zhizhi’s little head, "When Zhizhi is at Grandpa and Grandma’s house, Mommy and Daddy will naturally come here too. This is also Mommy and Daddy’s home, Zhizhi’s home."
Zhizhi thought for a moment, then nodded, "Alright then, I’ll sleep at Grandma’s today, and Mommy and Daddy can come over tomorrow."
Bo Yan laughed, "In a few months, Zhizhi, you’re going to start school."
Zhizhi nodded, "Okay, Dad."
...
Zhizhi stayed at the old mansion, while Yuran and Bo Yan started to get busy. Yuran joined the cast of "City of Temptation," where she came face to face with Xi Nian once again.
They had met due to a car accident, and initially, Yuran’s impression of Xi Nian wasn’t good because she felt that he had ulterior motives.
Yet two years later, as they sat across from each other, she suddenly couldn’t see through Xi Nian. To say he had a purpose, it seemed not; to say he didn’t, it seemed he did. It’s just that his purpose wasn’t quite what she had guessed.
"I’m surprised that you finally accepted this role," was the first thing Xi Nian said.
Yuran smiled, "I’m also surprised that you waited two years for me to take on this film."
Xi Nian nodded without stinginess, "From the beginning, I felt that the character in ’City of Temptation’ belonged to you. I trust my own judgement."
Yuran, "Actually, I’m quite curious. Why do you insist on me playing the role in ’City of Temptation,’ for which you are the executive producer? I know some inside information; you’re betting against Xi Gu. Aren’t you worried that I might lead you to a complete defeat?"
The delicate and enchanting features of Xi Nian’s face took on a shade of confidence, "Perhaps you won’t believe it, but I’m someone who trusts my first instinct, and the feeling you give me is like that of an old acquaintance."
An old acquaintance?
Yuran couldn’t help but smile inwardly. When she was still Fu Yuran, she had never crossed paths with Xi Nian, so how could they be considered old acquaintances? In her memory, there was no such person as Xi Nian at all.
What old acquaintance?
Although she didn’t speak, Xi Nian understood her meaning. He didn’t wish to startle her, yet he felt that she ought to be mentally prepared for some things, "Yuran, whether you believe it or not, I think you bear a striking resemblance to Fu Yuran."
Yuran’s expression remained calm, but her heart skipped a beat. Did others know about her soul returning in another’s body?
She didn’t quite understand the intent behind Xi Nian’s words, so she stared intently at his face. Xi Nian let her scrutinize him, "I have no ill intentions."
