Chapter 256: Really Want to See Her
Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Really Want to See Her
On the phone, everything seemed fine, but once Bo Yan hung up, a dark shadow loomed unshakably in his eyes that he could not hide. Xie Cheng, driving in front, shuddered as if a cold, desolate wind had swept through.
Subconsciously, he turned to look at Bo Yan through the rearview mirror, only to see Bo Yan’s eyes, dark and deep to the bone.
Wasn’t that Yuran on the phone just now? He sounded triumphant while he was on the call, but what’s with his expression now?
However, as an agent, he dared not ask, especially given Bo Yan’s temper, which was utterly frustrating. He didn’t dare to say anything more at this moment, for fear of becoming collateral damage.
It was that brutally simple.
Bo Yan sat quietly for less than a minute before picking up his phone and dialing Qi Feng, "Help me check what Yinchao is up to. What does he want with Yuran?"
Having heard this, Xie Cheng understood everything. He observed the side profile of the great actor Bo, half-hidden in shadows, slightly frightening. After Bo Yan ended the call, he spoke up softly.
"Great actor Bo, with your looks, are you really worried about someone stealing your spotlight?"
Bo Yan’s gaze stayed intensely on Xie Cheng, who didn’t speak and felt uncomfortable under such scrutiny. Xie Cheng felt as if he’d done something disgraceful, perhaps touching a raw nerve.
...
Now sitting face to face with Yinchao once again, Yuran felt the hatred in her heart had faded enough to be negligible. As Yinchao gentlemanly passed her the menu.
"What would Miss Yu like to drink?"
Yuran didn’t reach out to take it, nor did she intend to, her expression indifferent as she looked at the man opposite her, who seemed righteous yet somehow seemed to be smirking, "Let’s skip the niceties. President Yin, I’m not sure what you want to discuss."
Yinchao looked at her and smiled slightly, "Miss Yu, please don’t overthink it. I just wanted to reminisce about old acquaintances."
Old acquaintances?
About Fu Yuran?
This statement... brought a mocking smile to Yuran’s face. As if he feared that Fu Yuran, dead but speaking through her, would strangle him.
Yuran’s laughter carried a hint of mockery. Sitting opposite this master of pretense felt like a waste of time. She sarcastically asked, "So, President Yin, did you ask me out just to reminisce about old acquaintances? Is the old acquaintance Fu Yuran?"
Yinchao looked genuinely sad as he nodded, "Yes, I..."
Yuran didn’t let him finish, cutting him off, "President Yin, let’s not discuss this any further. I feel there’s no need to go on. First, I don’t have time for your nonsense. I am alive and well, yet you reminisce about old acquaintances in front of me? It annoys me as if you were offering incense before me. Can I play along with that? Naturally, I cannot."
"No, Miss Yu, that wasn’t what I meant."
Yuran scoffed, "Whatever intentions President Yin may have hidden, if there’s no serious matter for us to discuss today, there really is no point in wasting each other’s time here. Do I look like I’m free?"
Yinchao: "..."
Yinchao seemed unable to keep up the pretense any longer and, stifling his temper, looked up at Yuran. "Miss Yu, I only wanted to ask you one thing, that’s why I arranged this meeting. If you don’t like me mentioning Fu Yuran, I won’t bring it up again."
Yuran looked at him. "Go ahead."
Yinchao, "Miss Yu, do you know Qi Younian?"
Yuran didn’t speak but wore a smile that was both mocking and indifferent. "Whether I know Qi Younian or not, what business is it of yours? To be frank, Mr. Yin, we neither know each other nor are we acquainted. Your sudden questioning is quite off-putting, and it makes me feel uneasy continuing this conversation. I’ve seen plenty of people like you, too deviously purpose-driven. If you were straightforward with me from the beginning, I might have thought better of you, but as it turns out..."
"It’s incredibly disappointing. Whatever mystery you’re trying to sell, I’m not interested. But trying to sell it in front of me, you simply don’t measure up. Perhaps you’ll regret speaking such nonsense to me."
Yinchao’s face turned abruptly pale, but he still tried to salvage something, smiling at Yuran, "Miss Yu, you misunderstand. I just wanted to warn you that Qi Younian is not a good person. Don’t be deceived by him."
Yuran, "I always trust my own judgment. Whether Qi Younian is a fraud, I don’t know, but if he can deceive me, it means he must be quite capable, which is a good thing!"
Yinchao looked at her in disbelief. "Miss Yu, you..."
Yuran glanced at her watch, her expression unchanging as she addressed Yinchao, "I thought Mr. Yin wanted to discuss a partnership or give me some scoop, but from the looks of it, you’re just wasting my time with nonsense. Let’s not waste any more of it, shall we?"
Yinchao’s face turned extremely awkward. Just as he was about to say something, Yuran’s phone rang. It was Bo Yan calling her. She brightened up slightly as she answered, her tone softening, "Qi Ge."
Bo Yan chuckled lowly, his magnetic voice reaching Yuran’s ears, "I’m downstairs at the hotel where you’re meeting. Once you’re done, come down and we’ll go home together."
"I’ll be right down, Qi Ge. Just give me a moment."
"Okay!"
Yuran hung up the phone and got ready to leave. Yinchao quickly stood up and called after her, "Miss Yu, I still have something to say. Please give me a little more time, I’ll be quick..."
Yuran turned around to refuse him. "I really have nothing more to say to you, Mr. Yin. As I’ve said, we barely know each other. Your continuous questioning about Qi Younian probably has nothing to do with me. If it’s about Qi Younian you want to ask, then you should be asking him. Sorry, but I’m not closely acquainted with Qi Younian; I really cannot be of any help."
Yinchao grew desperate, "But Miss Yu, aren’t you and Qi Younian business partners? Doesn’t that mean you are familiar with one another?"
His eyes intensely fixed on Yuran, trying to detect something from her expression. Yuran let him scrutinize her without a change in her demeanor. After a while, she mocked him with a laugh, "I thought you really had something important to discuss with me. I admire Qi Younian and wanted to do business with him. How does that conflict with not being close to him? Since there’s no conflict, what concern is it of yours? Did I spend your money?"
Yinchao, faced with her rebuttal, turned pale and felt bitter, at a loss for words. "Miss Yu, it’s just that I have some personal grievances with Qi Younian, so..."
Yuran, "If you have personal grievances, take them up with Yinchao, not me. It’s absurd to come to me. Can I help you? I am Qi Younian’s ally. What on earth made you think I would help you? You really have stunned me. Are you planning to charm me with your looks? Sorry, my home already has a more impressive man, you can’t compare."
Yinchao’s face twitched, utterly embarrassed: "..."
Every word Yuran said here below reached the ears of Bo Yan, who was waiting downstairs, leaving him unable to decide whether to laugh or cry. A warm current flowed through his eyes, eager to see her.
