My Fortune-Blessed Leading Lady
Chapter 239: I Am a Master at Subduing Demons

Chapter 239: Chapter 239: I Am a Master at Subduing Demons

She had been paying close attention to Yuran, and once Xuan Ze left, she put away her phone and headed straight for Yuran. A fellow supporting actor from the same team grabbed her, "Weiwei, where are you going?"

Li Weiwei’s assistant was like a frightened bird, hastily looking towards Li Weiwei, fearing she might cause trouble on the set. This film crew was different from the previous ones they’d worked with; they couldn’t afford to offend anyone here.

Of course, they also deemed other insignificant people unworthy of causing trouble over.

Yuran seemed to have no particular background, but was amiable. In the past few days, she had warm chats with the directors, which made her appear to have good connections as well. Her relations seemed solid, hinting that she might actually be someone with influence.

It was better not to offend such an inconspicuous person.

As Li Weiwei’s assistant, they were well aware of Li Weiwei’s character. For the past few days, she had been looking for opportunities to get close to Yuran, but had been stopped multiple times by the assistant. They had given up, only for Li Weiwei to stir up trouble again after just a couple of quiet days.

Li Weiwei looked perplexed at the two who stopped her, scoffing with disdain, "What do you want from me? What do you think I’m going to do? Bother Yuran? Do I look stupid?"

Isn’t she stupid?

The assistant muttered internally but kept a straight face.

Li Weiwei huffed and continued toward Yuran. The short distance of just over a dozen meters was quickly covered, and with a smiling face, Li Weiwei said, "Yuran, you did well just now. Your acting skills along with the great Film Emperor Bo’s truly surpass us supporting actors."

A sudden incessant chatter filled the air around her, causing Yuran’s head to buzz with discomfort. She smiled perfunctorily, "Thanks."

Li Weiwei pretended not to notice and carried on, "Yuran, could you give me some guidance? When I act, I feel so stiff."

She had been scolded by Xuan Ze every day, nearly breaking into tears several times. If not for her reluctance to lose face in front of everyone, she would have walked out long ago.

If everyone in the cast was NG’ing, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but Yuran and Film Emperor Bo were like robots in their execution – a command, a movement, performed with precision like programmed code, leaving no room for error.

To find an opportunity to mock them was a luxury.

Yuran raised her eyebrows, not understanding Li Weiwei’s thoughts, but she had no intention to speculate; she didn’t plan to become close friends or familiarize herself too much. She apologized with a smile, "Sorry, I’m only familiar with my own script. Plus, I don’t quite have the experience you do. How could I presume to instruct you, Sister Weiwei? You must be joking."

Li Weiwei was older than her and some of the other female supporting actors, so on the set, everyone was accustomed to calling her Sister Weiwei, a request of her own. Yuran followed suit, as a matter of respect.

Her face turned somewhat sour upon hearing Yuran’s response; her tone began to take on a sarcastic edge, "Yuran, I’ve heard that Zhen Ni was originally cast as the second female lead, but due to conflicts with you, she was driven out of the crew."

"Is that so?" Yuran looked surprised, "That’s a matter for the directorial team, and it doesn’t seem to be related to me. Although I don’t know where you heard this from, Sister Weiwei, I have to clarify.

This really has nothing to do with me. As for the specifics, I’m not too clear either. If I had that much influence, would I still be sitting here? Shouldn’t I be receiving the same treatment as Film Emperor Bo?"

Li Weiwei had wanted to use Zhen Ni’s matter to embarrass Yuran, but she didn’t expect Yuran to deflect it so softly. She was at a loss for words and could only give an awkward smile.

Annan had gone to fetch her a box lunch, and upon her return, she saw Li Weiwei standing next to Yuran with a twisted expression, as if she were about to devour someone. Annan, protective as always, walked over and handed Yuran the box lunch.

"It’s still warm. Eat up; you’ve got two scenes to film this afternoon."

Yuran nodded and, without a hint of sincerity, offered to Li Weiwei, "Sister Weiwei, would you like some?"

Li Weiwei’s face turned awkward. What was there to eat? Was there anything left

Yuran uttered an "Oh," and started eating her boxed lunch on her own.

Li Weiwei: "..."

As soon as Li Weiwei left, Annan crouched down cautiously and, puffing with anger, asked Yuran while staring at Li Weiwei’s retreating back, "Did she come over to bully you?"

Yuran thought the chicken leg in today’s boxed lunch was quite good and took a couple extra bites. Hearing the question, she couldn’t help but laugh, "Bully me? Do you think too highly of her, or too little of me? She just came here to find some sense of presence, that’s all."

Annan, incredulous, "Oh my gosh, I thought only Xuan Ze, the great movie star, would dare to seek presence in you."

Yuran: "... What are you talking about."

Annan raised her eyebrows and smiled without replying, her smile bearing a hint of inscrutability, "Just one look at this Li Weiwei and you know she’s no good. What kind of trickery is she hiding in her heart?"

Yuran shook her head, "Who knows, let’s just wait and see. Whatever demons or monsters come, I am a master at exorcising them."

"Yeah, that’s true."

...

The afternoon’s scene involved a confrontation between Yuran and Li Weiwei. Although Li Weiwei’s character in the script was Tang Wan’s best friend, she was also the one who betrayed Tang Wan the most by secretly setting her up. In that era, the internet was not widespread; if people wanted to know about a star’s private life, they relied on print media.

And for print media to get news, they had to arrange interviews with the stars themselves.

Li Weiwei’s character, Lin Wei, would unsparingly reveal Tang Wan’s private life to the media for money, with her only requirement being that the media keep it confidential.

While peddling news about Tang Wan, she also pretended to comfort Tang Wan at her side.

This scene was the moment when Tang Wan discovered the truth and confronted her.

Tang Wan herself was inherently elegant and very famous. If she were to be angry with someone, she couldn’t bring herself to distort her face with rage like other women might. Even her anger was done with a uniquely elegant demeanor.

Tang Wan thus shared with Yuran that elegantly displaying anger was difficult to perform. She needed the audience to feel her unstoppable wrath, yet also recognize her continued elegance, which could only be conveyed through subtle expressions and gazes.

Lin Wei, on the other hand, was the type to be furious and hysterical, which was easier to portray.

Xuan Ze went over the scene once with her, explaining the feeling he wanted. Yuran nodded, "I’ll give it a try."

Li Weiwei was already in position, and the assistant director was beside her discussing the scene. As soon as Xuan Ze finished here, the assistant there was almost done as well. Xuan Ze passed by Li Weiwei and took the opportunity to say a few words. The character he wanted was not entirely a madwoman, but rather a furious and fierce lady with self-restraint.

A woman who could be friends with Tang Wan wouldn’t be of poor caliber, so it was important not to act with the vulgarity of a commoner.

Li Weiwei frowned, not understanding at all but not daring to ask, she could only nod, "Yes, Director Tang."

Xuan Ze asked, "Did you understand what I just said?" Li Weiwei’s heart chilled, recalling that Yuran had understood after listening just once, so she subconsciously nodded, "Director Tang, I understood."

Xuan Ze gave her a glance, nodded, and returned to the monitor.

"Action——"
