My five ghostly husbands -
Chapter 185 Betrayal
Chapter 185: Chapter 185 Betrayal
As Ruby scanned the crowd, her gaze landed on Lyra and Celeste standing among them. Her expression immediately turned ice-cold.
They were watching her with Smug faces.
Whispers spread through the gathered ghosts and witches. Some looked at Ruby with disgust, others with curiosity, but all of them with judgmental eyes.
Julian, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, tugged at her hand.
"Wife... put me down." His voice was quiet but firm.
She glanced at him but nodded, lowering him carefully. The moment his feet touched the ground, he straightened, his face composed, but his grip on her fingers lingered.
Just then, a weak voice called out to her.
"Ruby..."
Levi.
His eyes lit up the moment he saw her, but she didn’t slow her steps. Instead, she walked forward, still holding Julian’s hand.
For a brief second, viciousness flashed in Levi’s eyes. His gaze locked onto their joined hands, and something dark swirled inside him.
He had been watching Ruby from the shadows ever since he noticed the change in her.
Ever since she stopped drowning herself in alcohol.
She had become sharper, more aware.
In a ridiculously short time, she had earned money, bought a house, landed an editor job on set, and even registered her own business. She was no longer the broken, foolish witch everyone used to manipulate.
Meanwhile, his fiancée was useless, working a dead-end job with a salary that barely kept him entertained.
A bitter laugh almost escaped him. Ruby was different.
Her rare white hair and red eyes made her stand out. She had grown into a confident, sexy, and independent Witch. She had money now. If he married her, he would be rich.
And Julian?
He would find a way to get rid of him. Though he had already done half the work by creating misunderstandings between them... then why did they seem even closer now?
Milo, Karl, and Adrian too. He was going to get rid of every single one of them.
Once they were gone, he would have Ruby all to himself.
His fingers curled into fists. He just needed to play his cards right.
Before he could act, Ruby’s sharp voice cut through the air.
"What’s going on here?"
Karl scoffed loudly, stepping forward with his usual irritation.
"Why are you even asking, wife? This bastard is just here to create drama." He pointed directly at Levi, his tone filled with disgust.
Milo, always eager to agree, nodded furiously.
"Yes, wife! I think so too!" He puffed his cheeks in frustration.
Levi clenched his jaw, barely controlling the violent urge to wring their necks.
But instead... he let out a pitiful wail.
"Ruby!" He cried out, his voice cracking as he wiped fake tears.
"Did you forget? Before you snatched my purity... I told you I loved my fiancée! But you still took advantage of me!"
Gasps echoed around them.
"Now my fiancée has broken up with me! What should I do?!" Levi cried harder, sinking to his knees in front of Ruby. "You have to take responsibility for me!"
For a moment, there was silence.
Then—
"You’re LYING!"
Julian’s voice was sharp, his eyes burning with anger as he took a step forward.
"Don’t lie, Levi! We ALL know the truth!" His voice shook with disbelief. "Do you have no shame?! You’re standing here, crying like a victim, but you don’t even feel guilty?! I can’t believe this!"
His outburst shocked even the crowd.
But Ruby... she didn’t even blink.
Her red eyes were locked onto Levi, cold and unreadable.
And then she tilted her head slightly, her lips curving into a slow, almost amused smirk.
Levi felt a sudden chill crawl down his spine.
Something told him—
He had just made a terrible mistake.
Ruby chuckled, her voice dripping with amusement as she crossed her arms. "Do you even have evidence?"
Levi’s eyes glinted as if he had been waiting for this moment. "Of course!" he said confidently, straightening his back. "Isn’t it obvious? Miss Lyra and Miss Celeste work at the same place as you... They saw you with me!"
At his words, all eyes turned to Lyra and Celeste.
Lyra kept her expression neutral, but Ruby caught the faint tension in her shoulders. Celeste, on the other hand, was visibly nervous, unable to meet Ruby’s piercing gaze.
A deep, uneasy silence stretched between them before Lyra finally spoke.
"Yes... I saw it with my own eyes."
The murmurs in the crowd grew louder.
Lyra took a deep breath, her voice steady but careful. "I saw Ruby leaving without telling anyone, so I followed her outside. That’s when I saw her talking to Levi. He looked troubled..." She paused for a moment, glancing at Celeste before continuing. "And then... I saw her take him to a room."
Another Gasps spread among the gathered ghosts and witches.
Ruby’s face darkened.
Lyra hesitated only for a second before adding, "At that time, I thought he was her husband, so I didn’t say anything."
Celeste, sensing the growing tension, quickly spoke. "Yes! Yes! That’s true! When I met Ruby in the hallway and asked her about it, she told me herself that he was her husband."
Silence fell.
The moment those words left Celeste’s lips, Ruby’s expression turned ice-cold.
Her heart didn’t waver, but something inside her twisted..a sharp, bitter feeling that she hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Betrayal.
She had forgotten, in the midst of everything, that trust was dangerous.
That in this world, she couldn’t afford to trust blindly.
And life had just reminded her again never trust someone too easily.
Her gaze swept over Lyra and Celeste, her red eyes piercing through them like sharp blades. So this is how it was going to be?
A slow, dangerous smirk curled on her lips, but there was no amusement in her eyes.
"I see..." she murmured.
The atmosphere around her shifted, and even the ghosts in the crowd shivered without knowing why.
Karl narrowed his eyes. Milo now clung to Ruby’s sleeve, sensing something was off.
And Julian?
His fingers twitched as he looked between the liars and Ruby, his heart pounding.
"Ruby... you remember, right?" Grace cried, her eyes glistening with fake tears. "I told you—you’re like a daughter to me! Back then, I even gave you all my savings! Three hundred gems! Just because you were marrying Julian!"
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
