My Father Sold Me to a bunch of Crazy Alphas -
Chapter 65: Starting price (Killian’s POV)
Chapter 65: Starting price (Killian’s POV)
"For the highest bidders, an after-party will be held at another location. There, between my father and my brother’s future husband, a price for a direct answer to that question will be decided. So, if you are curious and want to find out for yourself, invest enough to be invited!"
That’s what Claus said, yet I still couldn’t believe my ears.
It wasn’t until my aunt’s snarky remark that I grasped the reality of the situation:
"You could have had the brat a couple of days ago for free. Now you’ll waste my company’s money on it. Pathetic!"
Her whispers attracted a few curious looks, but that was the least of my problems.
Why would Claus, not only condone this auction, but also such an after-party?
It doesn’t make any sense.
Sure, I have never been friends with him, but I know how obsessed he is with Luther.
I met Claus in the hallway of a five-star hotel. We skipped the introduction and got straight to a fight—
Well, I got to it. He hid behind Luther and smirked like a spoiled toddler while my crush landed punch after punch after punch until he dislocated my jaw.
Did I deserve it? Yes.
But the fact that this blonde brat stood there watching Luther get angry with me and defending him was much more painful than the beating.
Although my omega had no cotton fists, that’s for sure.
It was a few days after me and Luther had our first date. Despite my immediate interest in him, he didn’t search for me, he didn’t call me.
Nothing.
Radio silence.
So when I find out he is at dinner with another alpha, I got a bit out of my mind. In my defense, I have never been turned down by anyone so I had quite a harsh time coping with what seems to be rejection.
I knew Luther despised public attention on private matters and yet-
When I saw them so friendly with each other in the lobby of the hotel, I completely disregarded that:
"Are you cheating on me?"
My voice echoed through the hotel lobby, immediately causing the people present to take out their smartphones and start to Instagram live.
The question immediately angered Luther, who changed his body language from relaxed to stiff. Back up-right, eyes focused with frowned brows and lips pressed into a straight line.
As I was getting closer and closer to them, I grew more and more repellant by my outburst. Nonetheless, I couldn’t back away.
"I asked if you are cheating on me!"
"What do you think you’re doing?"
Luther’s voice, although whispering, made me feel a chill down my spine. I thought I’d officially ruined all my chances.
His eyes were slightly twitching. I wish I could have seen his hands squeezing into fists sooner. I doubt I would have been smarter either way.
"Am I not satisfying enough for you? Who’s this guy anyway? Are you into blondes? Is that why you cheated?"
It was that moment when Claus decided to partake in the conversation. Like he had any right to do that.
He extended his hand, expecting a handshake. But he knew what he did when he did that.
For that innocent friendly handshake invitation, he leaned his weight on Luther’s body, positioning his head in the depth of his shoulder. He lingered one hand on Luther’s waist while the other one was expecting the handshake.
That assertiveness of dominance on the omega I want drove me mad.
I prepare myself to land a punch right into his smug face, yet the target is sheltered —
By Luther’s face.
You can say whatever you want about the Prime Minister’s son, but he knows the law. Since I landed the first punch, he took the opportunity to get wild on me.
Such a rain of hits, increasingly powerful might I add, landed on my face that I couldn’t even close my mouth anymore.
My jaw went sideways, causing a deafening ring in my eardrums.
Pride aside, I almost wet my pants from the pain. The one thing stopping me from defending myself from Luther’s merciless force was his eyes.
His watery, hurt eyes.
I was gonna find out much later that my aunt was the reason I never got called for a second date.
So, how did the coward who hid behind Luther become bold enough to auction his very shield?
Sure he didn’t think this was in Luther’s best interest. He just couldn’t be that much of an idiot.
Another voice disrupted the crowd:
"What about his pheromones? I don’t wanna be killed when I drop my pants!"
The mass ignited in laughter yet again. Despite the loud chuckles, the atmosphere was rather tense. The question was important not only for the bidders, but for the Wilkers family too.
Nobody will pay to eat out poison.
Well, except me.
"Tonight we have a very special guest. Everybody please applaud Killian Akna!"
The harsh light source conquered me, burning me alive not only with its heat, but with the staring gaze of the bidders.
This wasn’t good. In fact, this was terrible! Lucrezia is going to kill me for this!
"Killian, you are the first to be invited to the after party no matter the bid! Gentlemen, Killian recently developed a new drug that erases any effect of toxic omega pheromones, leaving their scent sweet and harmless. He is kind enough to provide the future husband of Luther with the medicine on the condition that he gets to test him in private once in a while."
How disgusting.
I have never said or promised something like that.
In a matter of seconds, Lucrezia was pulled aside to discuss business while I was left a target to taps, patting, high fives and congratulations by the sea of filthy pigs.
To make matters worse, Claus announced a pause before the bidding began so any of these scum could ask for this medicine for their own disgusting fantasies.
"My man, you had something like that and you said nothing?"
"You gotta share it around, my boy! You’re unlocking a new world!"
"Yeah, Killian, gotta let us live the Christopher Columbus dream!"
I feel nauseous.
Luther was right. If the alphas hear about this drug, no omega will ever be safe again.
F-ck.
"Didn’t think you were that type of guy, Akna."
Tom’s cold remark slapped me back to the reality of the situation. I had no recipe for the drug anymore—
Emiliano destroyed the only copy of it in return for Damian.
Even if I wanted to share with those lustful blinded b-at-rds, it would take months to retrieve the information about its composition.
When I met Tom’s gaze, all I could read was disgust and disappointment. It was so obvious, one of the others took notice of it.
"Don’t mind him, Killian, he’s jealous since he was the only one who could get toxic babes without the fear of pheromone intoxication. You’ve got some new competition now so you’d better learn to share, my beta friend!"
He smiled humorlessly and left the crowd to retreat into a corner.
"Guys, it is still in the testing phase. It’s not safe to use."
My attempt to calm the crowd was ignored completely. Another man asked:
"This pill, do we gotta take it or the omega?"
"The omega.",my aunt interrupted while proudly displaying her new veneers and injected lips.
Cheers would erupt, the men started to hug each other celebratory. One of them cheered louder while saying:
"One time is enough. Doesn’t matter what happens with the omega after. It’s not like we’re marrying them."
The laughter amplified. Lucrezia squeezed my shoulder tightly, warning me about my posture.
’It’s a business mine and we hit the jackpot. Don’t look weak! Don’t embarrass me!’ it was written all over her plasticated face.
But how could I smile and nod along?
The different pheromones of the bunch melted in one sickening aroma that made my knees weak.
Sweat.
Burned wood.
Wine.
Overruled fruit.
The scent of twisted lust and inhumanity. And I was the cause.
The smell caused my throat to swell, making breathing an impossible task. The lack of oxygen made my vision unclear and my hands shaky.
Tonight will destroy not only me, not only my aunt, but the Akna Pharmaceuticals too.
I just killed my company.
How will my aunt react when she finds out we don’t have that drug?
That I gave it up to get Damian back from Emiliano out of nothing, but guilt?
When this large ocean of horny devils will turn against us?
Claus reclaimed the scene and hit his auction hammer loudly, announcing the start of the event.
Everyone turned in one swift motion and got the bid places ready to be raised in the humid air. Except no one did, for a moment.
The starting price took everyone aloof—
Claus’s voice echoed clearly and undeniably through the room, leaving jaws on the floor and dry gulps.
"Starting price : half billion dollars!"
