Chapter 314: 224: Am I Not Just Playing Along with Your Display of Affection?

Chapter 314: Chapter 224: Am I Not Just Playing Along with Your Display of Affection?

“Do you feel happier now than when you were with him?” Yang Zijing asked.

Jin Qiu nodded; being with him felt less like lovers, more like friends.

He was indifferent towards her, and she was always the initiator. Without her reaching out, he could go days without contact.

She used to think that was just his personality, perhaps during the times she waited for him, he was getting along famously with Xue Shan.

“Aren’t you always busy with a lot of stuff? Why did you come over today?”

“I saw from afar an idiot getting bullied without daring to utter a word.”

Jin Qiu immediately retorted, “Do you think you have the eyes of a hawk?! You’re the idiot! I’m not keeping quiet, I just can’t be bothered to talk, okay?!”

After getting her all riled up, he calmly asked, “What do you want to eat tonight? I’ll cook.”

The two of them went to the supermarket to buy groceries, then returned to his place.

It’s also in Yijing Garden, about a ten-minute walk from Su Nian’s home.

He hummed a tune while cooking in the kitchen, clearly enjoying himself.

Jin Qiu didn’t hold back either, semi-reclining on the sofa. She even secretly snapped a photo of him cooking and posted it on Weibo.

A stream of comments immediately followed.

“Who’s this hunk? He’s so handsome, how can you bear to have him cook?”

“Looks like you’ve got a new love interest!”

“Don’t you hurt us single doggies like that. You don’t care about my feelings, I could easily unfollow you, you know?!”

Below were all kinds of comments from close girlfriends. Jin Qiu replied to each while smiling, when suddenly a strange name appeared in the comments: Brother Jing.

Brother Jing said: “At the wedding, I’ll invite everyone to be my guests, and I’ll cook.”

The comment section exploded instantly: “Yo yo yo! Is this the hunk?”

Brother Jing, you should really discipline Qiu; she’s so thoughtless to let you cook.

Jin Qiu turned to look at the kitchen and shouted, “Aren’t you busy enough?! What nonsense are you babbling about?”

“I’m just trying to play along with your lovey-dovey display, aren’t I?”

“Who asked you to play along? Who wants to show off with you?”

“You post my photo and then talk like you’re the one who’s right, after violating my portrait rights?”

“What portrait rights, nonsense! Just cook your dishes, I’m starving to death!”

While chopping vegetables, Yang Zijing asked in a threatening tone, “I remember what I said I would do if you cursed, right?”

Jin Qiu immediately shut her mouth.

Her phone ‘ding-donged’ twice, signalling an incoming message.

It was just a number, no name, but she remembered it, the number she had deleted.

Are you free tonight? Let’s meet up?

Jin Qiu frowned. Xue Shan is probably about to give birth, so why is he contacting her now? Does he think what happened today upset his wife and wants her to stop bothering his wife from now on?

No matter what it was, she didn’t care anymore.

She replied: No need, let’s just block each other.

As she said this, she clicked on the options, and just as her fingertip was about to confirm, he replied with a message: There are some things I want to discuss with you, let’s meet at the park next to your place at 8 o’clock.

With him? There seemed nothing worth discussing, whether it was her making amends or continuing to be pathetic, she found it all meaningless now. What’s done was done, even an apology wouldn’t change anything, would it?

Her finger pressed down, and she could no longer receive messages from him.

People always hold onto the past, but you can’t stay stuck there forever. Memories can be cherished, but you must move forward.

“Time to eat, go wash your hands.”

Jin Qiu put away her phone, smiled, and ran over. Seeing the look of the dishes, her appetite was piqued.

She indulged and ate two bowls of rice, contentedly patting her full belly when she heard him ask, “When will you marry me?”

Jin Qiu looked at him incredulously, “When did I ever say I’d marry you?”

No dates, no flowers, no chocolates, no proposal—she was not about to marry him!

When she was with Tang Ge, she felt that he wasn’t the romantic type, so she forgave his passivity over and over. But now she realized, being too understanding as a woman often leads to an unfortunate end.

He would take her for granted, thinking a little bit of kindness would make her overjoyed, eventually deeming her worthless.

People say ‘easy come, easy go’ is human nature.

“Then say it now.”

Jin Qiu rolled her eyes at him, “With your current performance, who would want to marry you?”

“What’s wrong with my performance now? Do you mean I’m not assertive enough and talk too much rather than getting down to business?”

Jin Qiu really wanted to curse out loud, can’t this man be a little more subtle?

“Well, say it.”

So impatient, what should she say? Ask him to get busy or not? She wasn’t insane!

Choosing the smarter option, she slipped away: “I’m done eating, going out for a walk, please clean up.”

Without a word, Yang Zijing stood up and grabbed her: “You’re not going anywhere today until we’ve had this talk.”

“Since when are you so unreasonable? You’re kidnapping a respectable woman here!”

“If I wanted to snatch you, do you think I’d waste my time talking nonsense with you? I found that women like you can’t be reasoned with. Might as well take some real action…”

Speaking, he hoisted Jin Qiu onto his shoulder and started up the stairs.

Hanging upside down on his shoulder, Jin Qiu felt blood rushing to her head. The food she had just finished eating was pressing against his shoulder, making her extremely uncomfortable, “Put me down! I’m going to throw up everything I just ate!”

Yang Zijing ignored her, violently kicked the door open, and threw Wei Lan onto the big bed: “Take off your clothes!”

Jin Qiu, clutching her head, cursed, “Damn it, my blood’s rushing into my brain.”

“Don’t you curse ‘what the fuck’ every day? What’s the point if you don’t put it into practice?” As Yang Zijing spoke, he roughly tore Wei Lan’s blouse open, sending several buttons popping off.

At this point, Jin Qiu realized he was serious. He had a background in special forces, and her petite frame was no match for him.

“Wait, wait, wait!” However, her words seemed ineffective; the man was already burning with desire.

Jin Qiu tried to mount a sneak attack with her foot, but this trick was absolutely useless on him. Before she could lift her leg, he had her pinned down.

“I told you to wait! Calm down, we can talk this out!”

While he stripped her, Yang Zijing responded, “I’m a man of action.”

Jin Qiu felt hopeless, facing such a fierce man for her first time…

They say the first time is very painful. Considering his current state, was she going to be in agony shortly?

Feeling desperate, her phone rang from somewhere, and Jin Qiu’s eyes flickered with hope, seeing it as a lifeline: “Answer the phone! I have to answer the phone!”

Instead of releasing her hands, the man used one hand to find the ringing phone, threw her an eerily smiled, answered the call, pressed speakerphone, and placed it beside her ear, then proceeded to push up her skirt.

While Jin Qiu was swearing, Su Nian’s voice came from the phone: “Qiuqiu, do you want to go shopping tonight?”

Jin Qiu glared at Yang Zijing and turned her head towards the phone, “Tonight? I’m not sure if I’ll even make it through tonight.”

“Really? Are you busy?”

“I… Ah!” He actually… started stuffing it inside!!!

Confused, Su Nian asked from the other end, “What’s wrong?”

Yang Zijing smiled at her, clearly doing it on purpose, and added, “Lift your legs a bit higher.”

Jin Qiu knew he did it intentionally, and now Su Nian must have heard.

Sure enough, a snort came from the phone, followed by an immediate apology: “I’m sorry! I was being inconsiderate. You two carry on, we can shop another day.” Then the call was hurriedly ended.

Jin Qiu was so humiliated, her face nearly dripped with blood.

She clenched her teeth to try and ease the pain, as her belly filled with expletives…

The night was not yet deep, but already stained with the intermingled moans of a man and a woman.

In the bustling park, a man stood under a streetlamp in a corner, with smoke curling around him, waiting for a woman who would never come.

That phone number was unreachable, and the person he waited for would not return.

The cigarette ended; the night was cool.

The crowd in the park slowly dwindled.

The man rose from the streetlamp and walked away, driving to a bar.

He ordered the strongest drink, trying to numb his troubled, painful heart.

“Qiuqiu… I really don’t want to lose you…”

“I was wrong… Will you come back, please?”

“Qiuqiu…”

But the drunken voice could no longer bring the woman’s sympathy.

No matter how deep into the night, the man resting his head on the table slowly lifted it, bothered by the incessant ringing of his phone.

Irritated, he hung up and then thought better of it.

Annoyed, he answered, greeted by the angry voice of the woman: “Tang Ge! Where did you go in the middle of the night? And you hung up my call?!”

A drunken Tang Ge replied, “Who are you…”

The person on the other end, Xue Shan, exploded immediately: “Who am I?! I’m the mother of your child!”

“Oh… Xue Shan… What is it?”

Xue Shan moaned, seemingly in discomfort, and after groaning for a while, spoke haltingly: “I… I think I might be going into labor…”

Tang Ge sobered up a bit: “I’m coming back right now!”

The quiet night was shattered by the violent crash of a car collision; twisted metal and blood spilled on the ground, glaring even in the dead of night.

In another residence, a pregnant woman lay in bed, writhing in agony.

She tried to reach for her phone that had fallen to the floor, but instead, clutched her belly, powerless…

Hoping that the man would come back soon.

The pain in her belly worsened, but there was no movement at the door.

Inside, she resented that he knew she was due and still went out to drink.

She thought, since he had destroyed his marriage for her, it meant he loved her. But unexpectedly, he had been distracted by that other woman lately, even calling out her name in his dreams…

Unable to bear the discomfort on the bed any longer, Xue Shan tried once again to reach for the phone under the bed, stretching her hand out and clumsily turning her round body, only to fall to the floor with a thud.

Suddenly, she felt half dead.

Powerlessly grabbing the phone, she dialed emergency services, her voice weak as she intermittently described her situation and gave her address.

Before the ambulance arrived, she had already lost consciousness…
