Chapter 303: Chapter 217 Han Zisheng (3)

Shen Hanxiu watched as Su Nian abruptly stopped cursing and smiled deeply, “What’s wrong? Done cursing?”

Su Nian pointed at the painting on the big screen, her mouth agape but too stunned to speak for a long time, inwardly despising herself for being so stupid and silly, cursing herself so harshly!

“That… How come you have that?!”

“Why shouldn’t I have it?”

“I clearly drew that!”

She remembered, she drew it for Han Zisheng.

Back when they were in kindergarten, she missed him during class and drew the picture with colored pencils, then went to his house after school.

“Han Zisheng! Han Zisheng!” just like always, he didn’t respond to her calls.

The kind grandfather came out: “Nini is here? Zisheng is in the backyard!”

Without saying anything else, she ran to the backyard and saw him sitting by the stone table.

She ran over, sat across from him, dug out the drawing from her bag she made during class, placed it in front of him, and started describing it self-absorbedly: “Han Zisheng, look at this! This is you, and this is me; we need to stay together forever!”

Han Zisheng didn’t even glance at her, picked up his book, stood up, and avoided her.

With thick-skinned persistence, she followed him, snatched his book, folded the drawing neatly into it, and said with a beaming smile: “This is for you, you must keep it well!”

Back then, he looked downright disdainful, as if he was annoyed by her, and she never thought she would see this drawing again, and even her memory of it was blurred.

“The starting bid is twenty thousand.” The sound of the auctioneer reached her ears, frightening Su Nian.

Although it was a lot lower compared to the starting bid for the previous item, the fact that her childhood scribble was being auctioned at such a high-class event, with a starting bid of twenty thousand!

She thought no one would bid, yet anything related to Shen Hanxiu was valuable. If they couldn’t grab jewelry designed by him, they were eager to buy this drawing for twenty thousand.

“Twenty-five thousand.”

Su Nian, unconcerned about those brainless bidders, curiously asked Shen Hanxiu: “Where did you get this drawing? Did Han Zisheng give it to you? Where is he?”

Shen Hanxiu turned his head to look at her, everything was so obvious, yet she still asked about Han Zisheng’s whereabouts!

He knocked on her forehead as if hating that iron could not become steel: “Zhang Xiaoni, you really are ugly, stupid, silly, and dumb!”

“Zhang Xiaoni? How do you know my old name?!”

Shen Hanxiu looked at her bewildered state and pinched her face: “Didn’t you say that I was so handsome you would never forget me?”

Su Nian froze, she indeed had said that, but it was to Han Zisheng.

She looked at Shen Hanxiu with eyes wide in shock: “You… you are Han Zisheng?” Then quickly denied her own words: “Impossible! You must have met Han Zisheng, he must have told you these things! Where is he?”

“How’s that? Disappointed that Han Zisheng is me?”

Not disappointed, but the surprise was too great, she couldn’t dare believe it at all?!

All her reactions were within Shen Hanxiu’s expectations, watching her dazed appearance, he helped her analyze: “If I were not Han Zisheng, why would I marry you back then?”

“Didn’t you say that you were being pushed by your family to get married? Didn’t you say the best escape from a forced marriage was to marry someone, and the best solution to being urged to marry was to find someone to marry? We happened to be suitable, that’s why you married me!”

“You still remember my words so clearly? Have you ever used your brain to think, out of tens of thousands of people who wanted to marry me, even if it was to avoid marriage, why would I definitely marry you?”

Su Nian was stunned, yes, why would he definitely want to marry her? And after getting married, he was so good to her…

“You… you really are Han Zisheng?”

“Otherwise, do you think just anyone could be as handsome as me?”

Su Nian covered her mouth and looked at his face, perhaps the memory was too fuzzy, but she had never recognized him…

Just as she was about to ask more, Shen Hanxiu suddenly raised his bid placard, called out briefly: “One million.”

Su Nian was shocked, her painting sold for one million!?! She could practically become a professional painter!!

She turned and glared at him: “Are you an idiot?!”

Yet, there were even bigger idiots who raised the bid: “Five million.”

Su Nian turned and saw Tang Shaosheng holding up his bid placard, his gaze fixed on him.

Su Nian turned her head and laughed: “There’s an even bigger idiot, let the five million go to him, some other day I’ll draw a couple more paintings to sell to him…”

Before her voice fell quiet, Su Nian realized the super idiot was sitting right beside her.

“Ten million.”

Tang Shaosheng smiled contentedly and did not raise his bid again.

The people around also felt that bidding ten million for such a piece was rather extravagant, so they did not dare to raise the price anymore.

After the gavel banged, Su Nian felt her heart bleeding: “Do you have more money than you know what to do with? You auction off your own item, then spend several hundred times more to buy it back, is there a hole in your brain?”

However, Shen Hanxiu seemed unconcerned: “You wouldn’t understand men’s matters, get up, let’s leave.”

After picking up the treasures he bid for backstage, Shen Hanxiu left directly through the VIP passage.

In the car, Su Nian held the jewelry box and the framed painting, zoning out for several minutes, then asked him: “Are you really Han Zisheng?”

“Han Zisheng from Mainan Town.”

He had clearly stated the town, Su Nian felt there could be no mistake, and looking at the profile of his face, that cold aura, it was indeed very much like Han Zisheng, but she had never thought about it that way.

Who would have known it would turn out to be such a coincidence?

Decades later, she actually married the man she fancied as a child.

“So… when did you realize I was Zhang Xiaoni?”

Shen Hanxiu’s gaze was fixed ahead, his voice husky and pleasant to the ear, as comforting as a cool night breeze: “The first moment I saw you.”

Su Nian frowned in recollection. When was the first time she saw him?

Oh, that’s right! It was when she fled her wedding, hurried into a hotel, and ended up in a room, running into him fresh out of the shower.

Because people outside were chasing her, and she dared not go out, she awkwardly hid in his room.

She remembered calling him “old man” the moment she spoke…

Later, he had someone bring her clothes, she disguised herself as his secretary to leave, and when she left, he gave her his business card. Only then did she learn his name, the legend of Mai City—Shen Hanxiu.

But she never thought he was Han Zisheng, nor did she suspect that his approach was all “premeditated.”

“How did you recognize me the first time you saw me? I’m way better-looking now than when I was a kid.”

He curved his lips into a smile, and just as the car was stopped by a red light, he suddenly leaned over, grabbed her left foot, and took off her shoe.

Su Nian curled her toes: “What are you doing?”

Shen Hanxiu’s fingers brushed against the crescent-shaped scar on the top of her foot: “Because of this.”

She had been in a hurry to get away then, kicking off her high heels and grabbing a fruit knife to cut open the hem of her wedding dress. It was then that he had seen the crescent-shaped scar on her foot.

That was when he confirmed her vaguely familiar face was not a mere coincidence, and so he helped her escape her wedding.

Su Nian looked down at the scar on her foot: “This?” She had never really noticed the scar.

“You were climbing trees to raid bird nests and fell, stubbornly refusing to see a doctor, insisting on me carrying you.”

Su Nian’s face flushed: “I did not!”

Cars honked from behind, prompting Shen Hanxiu to sit back up and drive away.

After feeling shy, Su Nian asked again: “Didn’t you used to dislike me a lot? How come you even remember the scar on my foot?”

“I’m not like some people who appear to like someone a lot but fail to recognize them when they meet face to face.”

Su Nian pouted: “That’s because you’ve grown handsomer! And I was so young back then, how could I remember so much?”

“So young, yet you knew how to secretly kiss me when I was asleep?”

“I did not kiss you!” Then she glared at him: “Turns out you were feigning sleep!”

Shen Hanxiu smiled in acquiescence.

The car quieted down for a moment. Su Nian gazed at a painting and drifted off, then murmured: “Why didn’t you tell me all this earlier?”

Had she known earlier, she wouldn’t have suspected him of conspiring with Ye Jiayao to sell their child, she wouldn’t have divorced and left him, and they wouldn’t have missed out on so many years.

“I wanted you to fall in love with the me now, not the Han Zisheng of the past.”

“Hmph, you clearly liked me, yet acted so indifferent. If I wasn’t so stubborn, a man as contradictory as you would never find a wife!”

“A man like me, once he comes across someone he likes, can also be too lazy to replace the person in his heart.”

Su Nian pouted: “Is it just because I’m too good and charming, or because you’re too lazy to change?”

“Mhm, your silliness is charming.”

Su Nian no longer argued about being silly or not, he wouldn’t mind anyway.

She, however, said after a long silence: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if that child were still alive?”

Shen Hanxiu’s eyes darkened as he replied: “I have blood samples from Yang Zijing. If there’s any news about the child, we will be notified immediately.”

Su Nian turned to look at him, suddenly feeling very guilty.

Turns out he had never given up the search, while she had chosen to leave during that time.

She felt like the most miserable person in the world, with her child gone and her husband a traitor…

Little did she know, her distrust caused him an irreversible wound.

He loved her deeply, yet she pressured him into divorce with her threats and then vanished completely. Those four years must have been even harder for him than for her…

“Old Shen… I’m sorry…”

“Why apologize?”

Su Nian looked down, gazing out the window: “We should always be together from now on.”

She spoke very softly, as if to herself.

Yet every word fell clearly into Shen Hanxiu’s ears, and he smiled silently.

When they got home, it was nearly eleven o’clock. In the darkness, a figure could barely be seen under the car headlights standing in front of their house.

As the car pulled over, the person walked over, wearing a thin, black, long dress, appearing fragile in the night breeze, but Su Nian could not muster any sympathy for her.

Su Nian opened the car door first and, seeing Su Yalan standing to the side, stepped toward her: “What are you doing here?”

Su Yalan glanced at Su Nian with discontent but said nothing.

Instead, she headed straight toward Shen Hanxiu, who was getting out of the car on the other side…
