Chapter 1294: Chapter 1294: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes (4)

Xiaohe suddenly felt deflated: “Why does sir trust Ye Zheng so much?”

“Because you don’t understand Ye Zheng. Ye Zheng is a person of great reputation, once the most esteemed and favorite descendant of the Ye family by grandfather Ye, and not without reason,” Ye Qilan paused, then continued, “But I am still reserved about this woman Lin Zhi.”

Xiaohe now didn’t know what to say. It was he who affirmed Lin Zhi, and yet it was also he who denied her.

“Let’s do this, since Lin Zhi has come to us on her own, let’s look into her past with Ye Zheng over these years, perhaps we will find some clues.” Ye Qilan felt as if he had caught the scent of his prey.

If he was the Hunter, then his prey would surely be Lin Zhi.

Since Lin Zhi gave him an unusual feeling, this woman must have something extraordinary about her. Following up on her could only be right.

Xiaohe followed orders, and it wasn’t until three hours later that she reported back to Ye Qilan: “I can’t find any records of Ye Zheng and Lin Zhi’s experiences over the years, it seems as if someone has deliberately erased their past.”

“Erasing the past, is it because the past cannot be exposed to light? That makes it interesting,” Ye Qilan remarked and picked up his briefcase, preparing to leave work.

Xiaohe followed and asked, “Sir, should we continue our investigation?”

“There’s no need, I have already locked onto Lin Zhi as the target; this woman definitely has something to hide.” Ye Qilan walked to the office door and added, “Starting today, have someone monitor Lin Zhi’s every move. Don’t spook the target, act discreetly. If the surveillance is exposed, deal with those involved immediately.”

Xiaohe nodded, “I will handle it with care.”

Just then Assistant Luo walked by, and upon glancing at Xiaohe, he looked twice. Lately, this thin woman had been appearing frequently. It didn’t seem like much before, but seeing how the big boss valued this woman, it made him feel like his position was being threatened.

Assistant Luo smiled obsequiously: “Boss Ding, are you off work? Let me take you downstairs.”

Ye Qilan glanced at Xiaohe, who immediately took the hint and left.

Watching Xiaohe’s departing figure, Assistant Luo asked curiously, “Boss Ding, is Xiaohe also your assistant?”

“She’s just a handyman; you don’t need to bother about her. Assistant Luo, you can leave too, I’ll drive myself home,” Ye Qilan said as he entered the elevator.

He pondered how to coax Su Hongxing into happiness, perhaps even pretend to make amends with Ye Shiqing If necessary?

He feared that if he didn’t act convincingly, Su Hongxing might uncover the truth, deepening their conflict. When it came to sweet-talking women, he really wasn’t skilled.

On the way home, he thought of several methods, but ultimately he rejected them all.

As he walked into the living room, he smelled cooking that was very similar to the aroma when Su Hongxing fried dishes. He could even detect it was braised pork; she’d used star anise, along with other spices…

Hearing footsteps, Su Hongxing turned around and saw Ye Qilan, offering a beaming smile: “Dinner will be ready very soon, just wait a little longer.”

Ye Qilan felt flattered beyond belief, not expecting Su Hongxing to initiate conversation with him.

Does this mean, she’s no longer mad at me?

“Wife…” Ye Qilan choked up, overwhelmed with joy.

“You go change into your house clothes. Every time I see you in a suit, I feel pressured,” Su Hongxing reminded Ye Qilan.

He was somewhat gloomy now, and dressing too formally only made him seem more serious.

Ye Qilan readily agreed and quickly went upstairs to change into a set of house clothes.
