My Eldritch Horror Wife Followed Me To Another World -
Chapter 122: Agenda
Chapter 122: Agenda
Vafrid looked at Squawks’ back as he left the forest outskirts. He could tell Squawks was trying to blend in with the trees, but it wasn’t going very well.
Vafrid sighed heavily as he turned around and started trudging toward the meeting. Squawks had brought significant news. But why did he have to be the one to share it with the other tribes? Whether he wanted to or not, it would make him involved in whatever followed.
Unfortunately, he was already involved due to his connection with Squawks. It was already too late for Vafrid to stick his head in the sand.
It seemed like the meeting was just about to start when Vafrid arrived. He nodded once at the Husr tribe’s representative, Ugrid, who was also his big sister. She raised an eyebrow, wondering why her distant brother had suddenly shown up.
Vafrid looked at the other representatives.
Muhso from the Ursa tribe.
Chief Matranda and Tair from the Aer tribe.
Elder Kobo and Aatark from the Bawin tribe.
Monkey and Mijko from the Gezercher tribe.
Layas from the Seg tribe.
Baio from the Orovir tribe, replacing Poia, who was under house arrest for consorting with the Lowat tribe without her tribe’s knowledge.
Gugri from the Jakka tribe.
Bama and Wooyi from the Uaya tribe.
Viya from the Vedel tribe.
Qiro from the Asa tribe.
Yamanas and Utrimdir from the Phoriae.
The Lowat tribe had a decrepit old man represent them. The younger representatives didn’t recognize him. The older ones did.
It was the Lowat tribe’s chief, Yasra. It was the first time in a while that many of them saw him. He was not in good condition. His body was gaunt, his back was as straight as a drop of water, and his eyes were glazed over.
He was one of the few not looking at Vafrid.
Vafrid felt the pressure and awkwardly cleared his throat.
"I would like to add an item to the agenda before the start of the meeting. It’s important."
"..." He was met with silence.
"Just spit it out, Vaffe," Ugrid ordered impatiently.
"Right." Vafrid nodded. "I have just received news that the Vorad Kingdom is mobilizing troops toward our forest."
"...!" Gasps and reactions of surprise and alarm rose among the gathered tribes.
There were only a few who had a different reaction. Monkey, Muhso, Yasra, Matranda, and Qiro.
Qiro’s eyes narrowed, and he was the first to open his mouth.
"These news...? Are they from a reliable source?" He asked straightforwardly. He had yet to hear anything about the Kingdom’s movements.
"Is it...?" Chief Matranda asked, interrupting before Vafrid could answer. He gave Vafrid a meaningful look.
Vafrid nodded.
"It’s who you are thinking of, yes, Chief Matranda."
Matranda nodded firmly.
"I can vouch for the source of the information."
"Same," Monkey said while lazily raising his hand.
The Free Bird Mercenaries and their captain might be a little odd, but they were reliable in a way. They wouldn’t do this to trick them, at least not without giving the tribes the chance to pay them more than they had been paid to do it.
With two tribal leaders vouching for the information, Qiro had no reason to continue doubting.
"That means we must take it quite seriously," Qiro said.
Vafrid took a step back. He no longer had anything to do with this.
"Given the situation and the Lowat tribe’s recent interactions with the humans of the Vorad Kingdom, I propose we investigate any possible connections between the Lowat tribe and the Kingdom’s movements," Matranda said.
It wasn’t like the others didn’t understand him.
It was suspicious timing, and information was important in times like these. If the Lowat tribe knew anything about the Vorad Kingdom’s movements, they needed to share it with the other tribes.
No one disagreed with Chief Matranda’s proposition. After the meeting, a team from the different tribes would go through the Lowat tribe and talk to the captured warriors and people.
"We also need to find Basla. He was the one in charge of everything. If the Lowat tribe was involved with Vorad, he would be the one who knows how much," Qiro said before turning to Yamanas.
"Any luck in tracking him down?"
Yamanas regretfully shook his head.
"We found his trail and followed it through the forest. But it cut off in the direction of Vorad. It could be a coincidence..." Yamanas didn’t need to say anything else.
A coincidence? In this situation?
Very unlikely. Basla had probably cooperated with the Vorad Kingdom or someone from it on a more intimate level than just selling Tair to the Syndicate.
"Do you have anything to add, Yasra?" Chief Matranda asked with a glare.
Chief Yasra blinked and looked up, dazed, before shaking his head slowly and lowering his gaze again.
"It seems we will have to wait for the investigation to make some progress before we decide what to do with the Lowat tribe, then," Monkey said with a sigh. "We also need to figure out what the Vorad Kingdom is up to."
The representatives of the different tribes glanced at Vafrid.
The question was written in the air. Vafrid didn’t want to see it, but with people of such influence from the tribes looking at him like that, he didn’t have a choice. He hung his head.
"I’ll make contact," He said tiredly.
"Good. Meanwhile, we should prepare. It’s the Vorad Kingdom, after all. It’s unlikely they’ll just stab the grass at the edge of the forest."
At Chief Matranda’s words, everyone slowly turned to Bama and Wooyi. Their tribe was the closest to Vorad.
"I guess that means the Uaya tribe will be the first line of defense," Bama said. "However, our tribe is not the strongest. We would appreciate all the help we can get." She bowed her head. Wooyi did the same.
They weren’t completely helpless. But the armored troops of the human kingdoms were a bad match for them.
However, no one offered to help them.
