Chapter 958: Chapter 487: Yin Soul Workshop_4

...

That evening, a group of sixty people dressed in the resplendent uniforms of the Horizon Bureau rode on warhorses with Demon Beast bloodlines, covering a thousand miles a day, as they charged into the County Government Office.

With the documents personally sent by the Duke of the Wood Dynasty, Horizon Bureau’s Court, Owen Bertram, the local government naturally took it very seriously. Lord Algernon himself took command and mobilized all the swift steeds he could find in a short time. He brought his trusted subordinates to welcome the guests.

Upon hearing of the Horizon Bureau’s grand arrival, the County Magistrate panicked and slipped under the table from his chair! His attendants and master had to pull him out, but the County Magistrate could not stand up straight due to his trembling legs.

The Master could only speak the truth: "Host, Host, don’t worry! The things we did are just minor cases, not worth the Horizon Bureau’s full force. They are not here for you."

Although these words somewhat belittled their host, they were the quickest way to calm down the County Magistrate. He immediately straightened up and nodded: "Master, you are right. Follow me to welcome the distinguished guests from the Horizon Bureau."

However, he did not expect to be greeted with a flurry of lashes from Lord Algernon, who angrily scolded: "Idiot! You allowed a spy from Nanni Nation to infiltrate your county, and you didn’t even realize it!"

With his head in his hands, the County Magistrate was utterly bewildered: My county is far from the southern border, and it’s not a strategic location. Why would a person from Nanni Nation infiltrate my county?

...

Lord Algernon met with Lord Bertram and received orders to use the power of the Horizon Bureau and surrounding government offices to begin a large-scale investigation.

However, after several days of investigation, the results were very limited. Confused, Lord Algernon reported to Lord Bertram: "My lord, we have investigated every prefecture, county, and village within six hundred miles, but found no trace of any evil cults or anyone communicating with Nanni Nation."

"Nothing?" Lord Bertram frowned. This was quite strange.

For the Fire of the Stars, the more believers and larger territory they had, the stronger they would become. Hence, they strongly supported the Boneset Country’s expansion. Once they had arrived in Nanni Nation, they would naturally infiltrate the Wood Dynasty. In the past, the Flying Bear Army had destroyed dozens of crude temples in their jurisdiction every year.

If the enemy sent a bishop, a high-status believer, it means they held great importance to this place. But considering they didn’t spread their faith, could it be only for helping Mr. Malvin to establish such a Ghost Spirit Workshop?

Unfortunately, everything in the underground temple had been erased by the Fire of the Stars, leaving no trace. The more it was like this, the more it showed that the Fire of the Stars had major plans!

Lord Bertram gave a list: "These are the identities of all the Ghost Spirit craftsmen in the Workshop here. Investigate them one by one and find the link between them."

"Yes!" Lord Algernon took the order and turned to leave, but was stopped by Lord Bertram: "Check the guards here and anyone related to the Marvin Family as well. It’s very likely that the Red Barbarians killed more people than just those in the Workshop—the clues could be hidden on other victims as well."

"Understood."

After Lord Algernon left, Lord Bertram rubbed his chin thoughtfully, a habit the embodiment shared with the original.

Sophia leaned against him from behind and gently massaged his shoulders: "What do you suspect?"

"Why did they choose the Marvin Family? And why did they hide here?" It seemed as if Lord Bertram was answering her, or talking to himself. He got up and said, "I’m going outside to take a look."

When he stepped out the door, it was dusk, and the sky was overcast with a cold wind howling around him. An idea struck Lord Bertram: "Wait for night."

The sky was covered with thick clouds on this night, obscuring the starlight. Lord Bertram, Sophia, and the ten military officers left by Lord Algernon were the only ones staying in the village, and the lights were limited to their rooms, while the rest of the place was pitch black.

Lord Bertram flew up into the sky a few thousand feet high, from where he could overlook dozens of miles around him.

Lord Bertram released Jason Gourd and activated the "Thousand Doors Eye."

"Huh?" Lord Bertram noticed some clues, and circled around in the sky several times, making careful observations. Then he landed and said to Sophia, "I’ve got some ideas, but we still need to see the results of Lord Algernon’s investigation and cross-verify."

That night, Lord Bertram suddenly thought of another overlooked clue: Sophia’s mother’s cause of death—curse skill.

It is the means of Wood Dynasty’s cultivators, while everyone in this village follows the Fire of the Stars, and uses Red Clan methods.

Those outside guards are only martial artists from the secular world, without cultivators amongst them.

Who helped Mr. Malvin secretly kill Sophia’s mother?
