Chapter 92: Chapter 91: The Sword Pill Never Admits Defeat (Part 1)_1
"You two stay," Owen Bertram said solemnly, "I’ll go to Burning Hillock alone."
Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow was about to speak when Owen bluntly said, "You would be useless if you went."
Initially, Vanessa didn’t want to accept it, but soon lowered her head in frustration, admitting the truth. If she went, she’d likely be a burden. But is it really good to be so straightforward?
When did I, Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow, once the top genius of Waves Prefecture, become a burden to others? Ashamed and resentful, she secretly resolved that if she got through this ordeal, she would use any means necessary to improve her Cultivation skills as quickly as possible.
Tabitha reached out and stubbornly clung to her elder brother’s sleeve while looking up at him, "No, I want to be with you."
Owen pointed at Vanessa: "Protect her."
Vanessa: "..."
After struggling for a while, Owen said, "Don’t worry, I promise I’ll get you both out of here."
Eventually, Tabitha released his sleeve. Owen quickly found a cave, hid both girls inside it, and placed a big iron pot at the entrance. He knocked on the pot, "Wait for me to come back."
He sprinted to the edge of the light barrier and released Little Loach, who swallowed the golden ring and whip rope from Jeffery Cooper one by one. Then it coiled up next to Owen and began to digest.
Owen took a deep breath and urged, "Be quick!"
Little Loach gently swayed its pale golden whiskers, signaling it understood.
The direction of Burning Hillock emitted another heavy wave, making Owen increasingly uneasy. If the hillock erupted, the entire village would be leveled in an instant.
How much time did Little Loach have left?
This time, after only half a Shichen (1 hour), Little Loach opened its eyes and looked at Owen. He stopped it, "I don’t want anything this time, just use everything to strengthen the Sword Pill!"
Little Loach nodded solemnly, giving him a reassuring look.
It turned its head to face the light barrier, gathering its power for a moment before releasing it with a burst.
Owen’s eyelids twitched as the Sword Pill’s speed increased! Due to their mysterious connection, it had been easy for him to sense where the Sword Pill was, but now he was having trouble pinning down its exact position.
The light barrier stretched outward like it was pierced by a sharp blade, with a small bead-like shape spinning rapidly at the topmost point where it met the barrier, emitting bursts of red light!
The temperature there skyrocketed, and the red light quickly turned to dazzling white like a small sun, making it impossible to look directly at.
With a roar, Little Loach surged forward like a fine steed or a Flood Dragon, the Sword Pill piercing further ahead.
With a tearing sound, the light barrier shattered instantly, scattering before Owen and revealing a huge breach several hundred meters wide!
Around them, the surrounding fog rushed out of the gaping hole, as if drawn by an external vacuum cleaner.
The Sword Pill was undefeatable—as long as it had enough power from Owen!
Owen was overjoyed, laughing as he put Little Loach back into the wooden bottle. Without explaining to the bewildered girls below, he rushed to the cave entrance, lifted the iron pot, and grabbed each of them by the hand, racing towards the exit.
Upon reaching the gap, Vanessa’s eyes sparkled with surprise, "You’ve actually broken through? How did you do it?"
Owen didn’t explain and, carrying both girls, leaped out of the gap.
"Hiss—" All three of them seemed to inhale the fresh air outside at the same time, finding it exceptionally sweet and refreshing.
Owen put Vanessa down, only carrying Tabitha, who carried the big iron pot. From a distance, Owen’s appearance was quite odd.
"Let’s go!" Owen just wanted to get as far away from here as possible. So many giant beasts hadn’t emerged from Burning Hillock, so why did a demon think it could benefit from going there?
Jumping into a pit and expecting to find a lantern meant seeking death.
His little sister was already saved, so Owen didn’t want to deal with anything else. The farther they ran, the better—just don’t get involved when the demon faces death!
Owen and Vanessa activated their movement techniques, like two large birds flying close to the ground, instantly rushing up the mountain next to the village.
Looking back, Vanessa saw dense fog below, with the entire Extinct Village, several nearby rivers, and even a section of the river engulfed in it.
Everything down there was shrouded and unclear.
The gap they escaped from had dark red glimmers of light repairing the damage, shrinking the hundreds of meters wide hole to just a hundred meters. It wouldn’t be long before it closed completely.
The area around Extinct Village was covered with Cold Poison, entirely sealed by the Magic Wave.
Only Burning Hillock stood tall.
But now, an array of swirling colors of mystical light erupted from everything around it. Here and there, huge light orbs exploded or thick light pillars soared into the sky.
Half the night sky was illuminated!
A dark figure, standing on a dragon made of countless demons, slowly advanced deeper into Burning Hillock!
Vanessa was filled with gratitude—if not for Little Owen, she too would have perished along with the whole Extinct Village. This was the first time in her life she had faced a real-life crisis. Escaping her family’s clutches, the events of this terrifying night made her appreciate the value of living even more.
Vanessa had only one thought now—to get as far away from here as possible. Then, she would contact the Horizon Bureau, gather a large number of powerful individuals, and completely crush that demon!
She turned and continued fleeing from Extinct Village, only to realize that Owen had stopped moving.
Because of the demon’s provocation, the magical light waves erupted from Burning Hillock like lava from an erupting volcano. The erupting light had grown chaotic and dangerous, threatening to envelop them.
"We should go quickly!"
Owen said nothing and hesitated for a moment before following her. However, he was much slower than before, which puzzled Vanessa, "What’s wrong?"
Owen slowly spoke, "It’s Master Basil and Uncle Jeffrey..."
Looking back, Vanessa saw a few people dangling from the dark tentacles of the demon’s enormous dragon: Uncle Jeffrey, Master Basil, Stanley, Berry...
As the dragon advanced towards Burning Hillock, those dangling from the tentacles were threatened with waves of magical energy, evil energy, and raging winds through all four sides. The fate of Master Basil and others was unknown.
"They... Javen’t been turned into demons?" Vanessa was surprised and then realized the demon’s main body needed some living people for...a living sacrifice!
But the demon’s main body was too powerful, and just its dragon alone was beyond their reach. In this situation, what could they do?
