Chapter 84: Chapter 83: Various Shapes and Colors of Demons_1

Owen Bertram did not have much time to think when he suddenly felt a premonition: it’s coming!

A huge shadow appeared in the mist.

It seemed to wander aimlessly, but as its nose twitched, it headed straight for Owen and his sister.

The creature was about twenty feet tall, and it wasn’t until it was within ten steps of the house that Owen could see it clearly. It looked like a moving mass of tumors, with its entire body covered in black, viscous slime.

It had four legs on its lower body, and a slightly smaller head next to its upper body’s neck. It had no eyes, only nostrils and a large mouth full of sharp teeth. Its long, crimson tongue, forked at the front, reached out and swept around as if it wanted to wrap around a prey and devour it alive.

"Is this..." Owen resisted his nausea and guessed, "The demon that Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow mentioned?"

"Did their Evil-Repelling Iron Plate become ineffective? Were they corrupted by the village’s evil energy?"

But once someone entered the village and became a part of it, they would only die from the cold poison in three years, and there had never been any case of demonic transformation within the village.

People would be infected with the cold poison, then leave the village and undergo demonic transformation outside.

Although the demon’s body was huge, it seemed very slow and moved slowly towards the house. Suddenly, it quickened its speed and charged at the door like a warhorse, crashing into it with a bang.

The entire front wall collapsed.

Owen had already pulled his sister back to avoid the demon, and his eyes became cold like frost as his flying sword followed his thoughts. It seemed as if there was no distance between him and the demon, and the flying sword easily cut the demon’s body like slicing through tofu.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

The flying sword went back and forth continuously, its speed faster than anything of the mortal world; Tabitha blinked, and the massive demon had already turned into chunks of debris scattered all over the ground.

The flying sword suddenly returned and hovered on Owen’s left side.

Owen hurriedly turned to check on his sister, worrying that she might be frightened.

Verna curiously looked at the flying sword and blinked, "Brother, you’re amazing!"

"Aren’t you scared?"

Tabitha seemed puzzled, pointing at the pool of demonic remains on the ground, "Is it that terrifying to grow like this?"

"Were the previous underlings more frightening? They took our food!"

Verna suddenly shouted as if she had discovered something fun, "Brother, look! It can still move!"

On the ground, each black fragment wriggled, trying to recombine into one entity. Owen acted decisively and urged the Gourd Responding Items to emit a spiritual flame, burning the demon to ashes with a sizzle.

"We can’t stay here any longer," Owen told his sister, "Pack up some things, and let’s go."

The demon’s smell of blood would definitely attract other monsters!

Owen went into the cave and took out the half cracked stone plaque. When he crawled back out, he was surprised to see Verna had not packed anything else but had a big iron pot with a missing handle on her back!

She also had a bag of firewood, fearing they would starve on the way.

She was not tall enough, so the big iron pot looked like a large lid on her back, not very appealing.

But it proved one thing: my sister is the strongest child in the entire village. She carries such a heavy iron pot on her back without blushing or panting, striding energetically!

Owen thought about it, and decided that it could at least be used as a shield, so as long as she didn’t find it cumbersome, they could bring it along.

He held his sister’s hand and walked towards the outside of the village, following a sense of direction.

On the way, Owen secretly sensed the Mechanical Dao Soldiers and ordered them to come and join him.At the same time, Owen Bertram also had a question: Who were these monsters?

Were they the villagers, or were they people of the Horizon Bureau?

Owen Bertram shook his head, unwilling to delve deeper into this issue.

...

As soon as Joyce grabbed Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow, seven or eight demonically transformed Military Officers appeared behind them, baring their teeth and claws as they charged forward.

The two of them activated their movement techniques, and within a few blinks, they appeared on the rooftop of a rather sturdy house in the village.

Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow bit her lip, her face displaying some signs of intolerance: "Master, they’ve all..."

Like a watchful eagle, Joyce surveyed the surroundings, vigilant against any danger hidden in the mist: "Magic Wave! This is a Magic Wave! Any living beings entering this place will undergo rapid demonic transformation, even if they possess magical instruments capable of resisting evil energies, it will be of no use."

"So, not only are our people affected, but all the villagers have also turned into monsters."

"Even you and I...I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time."

Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow couldn’t help but think of that young man. Had he also become the bloodthirsty, murderous monster? Her heart ached for no reason!

Joyce continued: "However, the Officiant Your Excellency will arrive tomorrow. As a Fourth Great Realm expert, he might have a solution. So, we must hold on until then!"

As Joyce was speaking, his face suddenly changed: "Not good!"

He pushed Vanessa Thoughts of Shadow away, and as they both fell through the air, they each activated their spiritual energy to float and fly.

The house beneath them suddenly exploded, as several monsters quietly drilled out from the ground to launch a sneak attack!

One of the monsters roared and, astonishingly, sprouted wings! Charging straight towards Joyce, a swarm of monsters then appeared around them from within the mist, with tattered cloth from the Horizon Bureau’s uniforms hanging from their bodies!

...

Owen Bertram was fully armed, protected by his Flying Sword, and he handed the Bone dagger to his sister. His hands were wrapped in Artifact Lock Chains, and he had a Turtle Shell Shield on his other arm.

Suddenly, Ava Bertram stopped and sniffed, "What a stinky smell." Owen Bertram didn’t smell anything, but Ava Bertram pointed to the ground in front of them: "It’s down there."

Almost at the same time, the ground bulged up, and Owen Bertram leaped up, slamming his Turtle Shell Shield heavily against the raised area.

Boom!

With a muffled sound, the monster who was about to drill out of the ground for a sneak attack was dazed, and sank back down.

Owen Bertram turned around, and the Flying Sword shot towards the monster behind his sister.

Whoosh—

A winged monster swooped down, its belly sporting six thick and powerful claws, all reaching for Ava Bertram. However, it was met head-on by Owen’s Flying Sword, and with a hiss, it was cut in half!

The stench of blood filled the air.

Owen Bertram had already anticipated that the monsters would cooperate and launch a pincer attack from behind.

"Roar! Roar! Roar—"

Sharp cries resonated from all directions, and variously shaped monsters revealed themselves from within the mist. Although they were savage and cruel, they possessed high intelligence. Failing at their ambush attempts, they started to surround Owen and his sister on the ground and in the sky, much like a...hunt!

One particularly huge monster, with saw-toothed bone spines all over its back, roared and tensed its muscles. The bone spines shot out, forming a rain of swords aimed at Owen Bertram.

At the same time, another fat monster crawling on the ground hit its own head, and with a puff, its body split into eight small monsters. They looked like starving ghosts, darting around the ground between Owen and his sister. Opening their mouths wide, they sent out a large black spider web at Ava Bertram!
