Chapter 784: Chapter 442: Chicken_3
They boarded a Red Barbarian warship and headed to Rustica Island. The goal of the trial was to bring back a Divine Artifact. The one who returned first would be declared the winner.
Owen Bertram secretly observed the Red Barbarian ship. Despite its minimal living facilities, it had considerable combat power. Comparing it to the Wood Dynasty’s navy, Owen knew the Wood Dynasty would be utterly defeated.
This made Owen secretly vigilant: The Red Barbarians sailed across seas all year round, so their shipbuilding skills must be quite advanced. Earlier, he had underestimated them. The Red Barbarians might actually have flying ships that could compete with the Celestial Warships!
After landing on Rustica Island, the four quickly scattered. No one wanted to team up, especially not with Sanni! Alonni and Vegas stayed as far away from him as possible. Later, they found out that probably because they were following him, they accidentally drove a Traceless Mouse right into Sanni’s hands, making them regret their actions.
They couldn’t afford to make the same mistake twice, so they stayed away from Sanni.
With a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders, Sanni walked alone into the depths of the island.
In the island’s outer perimeter, the Red Barbarians set up a surveillance system of some sort which made Sanni feel uneasy. The feeling only disappeared when he entered a dark, twisted forest.
However, just as Sanni began to relax, claw marks suddenly appeared on the ground in front of him!
The claw marks continued to appear, stretching from Sanni’s feet into the depths of the forest. After a few steps, they seemed to realize that Sanni wasn’t following and stopped to wait for him!
Sanni cursed under his breath, "Am I a ghost? Did I bump into a ghost today?"
As he hesitated, the claw marks walked back, circled around him a few times, as if urging him to hurry up.
If Owen had been in his place, he would have been cautious and tried to expose the invisible creature behind the marks. But Sanni, being reckless, smiled and said, "Lead the way!"
Imagine that, upon setting foot on the island, he had encountered this mystery. Perhaps he could find a high-level Divine Artifact because of it and complete the trial in one go!
That’s how open-minded and optimistic the Lord is.
The claw marks seemed to understand his words and promptly walked forward again. Lord Sanni cheekily followed it, even deliberately stepping on the claw marks!
As he walked, he mumbled incessantly, "Hey, what exactly are you? Judging by your claws, you have three split toes and an extra small one, so you must be a bird. And based on the depth of the claw marks, you’re not that heavy - are you a chicken?"
"Sorry, sorry, I shouldn’t have said ’chicken,’ let’s be civil," he chatted nonstop before noticing the marks had stopped moving. "Why have you stopped? Who am I going to follow if you don’t move?"
"Did I say something wrong? You should argue your case! How would I know if I’m right or wrong if you don’t talk?"
Sanni’s silver tongue continued to wag, until a sudden, angry voice rang out from the void beside him, "Shut up!"
"Huh?" Sanni looked puzzled, "The chicken speaks human?"
Sanni suddenly saw a claw mark appear in the void in front of his face but dissolve before it struck him.
The voice solemnly said, "Shut your mouth and follow me. If you say one more word, I’ll choose someone else and leave you to rot on this island forever."
Sanni immediately made a "zip your lips" gesture and obediently followed. However, his eyes roamed every which way, and he swallowed frequently, clearly struggling to keep quiet.
The claw marks led him through the dense forest. Along the way, they came across a large tree with enormous cocoons in the roots, likely containing the creature’s prey.
He saw a squirrel split vertically in half, each of its clawed limbs holding opposite ends of a three-meter-long Strange Snake, coordinating and hopping between tree branches.
Then, they narrowly avoided an area of sandy soil filled with living tendrils of blood and flesh before arriving at the base of a giant, dead tree.
The ancient tree resembled a ghoul, its roots reaching menacingly in all directions, but it was actually the safest place in the area.
At this point, a figure appeared above the claw marks, and Sanni could no longer hold back. He pointed and began to howl, "I told you it was a big chicken!"
He barely managed to stop himself from saying the last word, which would have ruined his image as a civilized person.
The owner of the claw marks pulled off an illusory disguise and with a flick of his hand, the false skin turned into a small ball that he tucked into his pocket.
It was a member of the Red Clan, whose age was difficult to determine. In fact, Sanni always felt that the Red Barbarians all looked old, with their disheveled beards and deeply furrowed brows, making them appear weathered and rugged.
"I can help you. Otherwise, you’ll never leave Rustica Island," he began. "My name is Barlobas, and I hope you don’t make me regret choosing you."
Sanni confidently patted his chest, "Don’t worry, with my talents, there’s no better choice than me."
Barlobas’s forehead vein started throbbing. He initially acted enigmatic in front of Sanni because he didn’t want to reveal himself too soon. But Sanni’s non-stop talking—Barlobas couldn’t take it any longer.
If it weren’t for Sanni being the most suitable candidate, Barlobas would have kicked him into the flesh-and-blood sand pit a long time ago.
