Chapter 622: Chapter 399: The Patchwork Monster_3

Before leaving, Owen Bertram found Donald Lee and told him, "Brother Lee, please go to the Summit Metropolitan Office first and wait for me for a few days. I have some matters to handle downstream in the Southern Border, which may be related to the war."

Donald Lee nodded and said, "Please make haste, Lord Bertram. Our comrades in Flying Bear Army are always on our minds, and every day we wait feels like being on pins and needles."

Owen Bertram nodded, and then took his leave. After he left, he overheard a few old soldiers in the mechanical flying vehicle grumbling to Donald Lee, "Why didn’t you ask about the military funds? Lord Bertram promised to help us raise them before."

Donald Lee replied, "Lord Bertram also said not to hold too much hope. Such a huge sum is not so easy to raise. Let’s not make it difficult for him."

"Sigh, we don’t want to be too demanding, but we really have no other choice..."

Owen Bertram continued without acknowledging the conversation. In fact, he had not forgotten about helping the Flying Bear Army raise funds, but Lord Bertram had other long-term considerations and needed to "tide over" the Flying Bear Army to avoid any unforeseen accidents in the future.

Not long after he left the mechanical flying vehicle, he heard the loud chirping of a bird in the sky. Magpie joyfully flew over, shaking its head and tail like a lion dance, twisted its thick waist and stuck out its tongue to carry its master on its back, flying downstream towards the Southern Border.

On Magpie’s back, Owen Bertram took out a communication talisman and passed an order to Ethereal Devin at the Looking Cloud Cliff Prescott Group: "Send a few private letters on my authority..."

Owen Bertram stated various requests and who to send them to. Ethereal Devin had no choice but to comply, feeling a bit despondent: "It’s over. I will be an official under his hand... What should I do if I want to give up my pen and join the military?"

...

The purpose of Owen Bertram’s trip was Lock Beach, to search for the seven sunken Five-toothed Battleships from that great battle years ago.

These Five-toothed Battleships were also a key part of the funding and Southern Border war effort for the Flying Bear Army. However, the battle was so long ago that Lord Bertram wasn’t sure if he could find the wreckage, so he didn’t give Donald Lee and the others any details, only asking them to wait at the Summit Metropolitan Office.

As the Summit Metropolitan Office Commander-in-chief, Lord Bertram was supposed to be in charge of all the nearby defense posts. But in reality, his control only extended to all the defense posts near the Copper Gorge.

He followed the river downstream, passing through the Lake Mature Region, and entered a dangerous mountain range. This area had always been a poor and wild region in the Wood Dynasty. With inadequate farmland and a landscape dominated by lofty mountains, the residents suffered from poverty, banditry, and the presence of demon beasts. On top of that, small extinction domains would occasionally emerge, causing headaches for the Imperial Court.

Owen Bertram had now reached the Sixth Great Realm, and finally had a sense of being able to go anywhere in the world. Along the way, he spotted any powerful demon beasts guarding spiritual medicine from the sky, and with a slap on Magpie, would land to drive them away and collect the spiritual medicine.

One day, he saw a dangerous gorge on the river, with River Water surging through like an angry dragon, causing huge waves. A large ship had just entered the gorge when it was attacked by a giant demon beast lurking in the water. The demon beast was enormous, about a hundred feet long, with multiple tails that were like serpents. The tails lashed and coiled around the ship, trapping it without any hope of escape.

Owen Bertram could save them easily, but such incidents happened all the time on the river, so he wasn’t obligated to help. However, he then saw an idol of the River God on the ship’s bow.

Lord Bertram had a thought - when he noticed the River God statue, there seemed to be a connection between him and the idol, as if he could see everything on the ship through its eyes, just like when he was possessing his brother.

This change came after he had absorbed a drop of Harrison Ainsworth’s divine blood, which seemed to strengthen him in some ways and allowed him to make use of his brother’s "divine power."

Curious about the extent of his borrowed power, Lord Bertram wanted to test it. He remembered how his brother had accidentally created a guardian holy beast, so he used the Spirit Puppet Skill to form a special radiance. His eyes scanned the entire river, and he spotted a fine-looking Tire-5 Monster several dozen miles away. The beast had a tiger’s head and a turtle’s body, with a high, arched back.

Owen Bertram sent the radiance into the Tire-5 Monster. The monster writhed in pain, and a divine fire erupted from its heart, burning away its sins and flesh alike. Gradually, only its bone armor and organs hanging between the bones remained, turning a faint golden color within the divine fire. New flesh grew over the bones. The creature still resembled its former demonic appearance, but anyone who saw it knew that it was no longer a demon beast but bore the power of a deity.

Owen Bertram issued a "divine decree", and the newly born guardian holy beast, Turtle General, burst through the water and swam swiftly upstream against the current, going to rescue the believers of their god.
