Chapter 506: Chapter 366: The Treacherous Minister is Desperate and Ruined
Wayne Malvin descended to the fourth layer, yet he dared not be reckless. This layer was rife with high-tier Spirit Insects, with the lowest being Tier-4. He was confident in his own strength, able to deal with ordinary Tier-5 Spirit Insects without issue. However, the Spirit Insects on this layer were far more violent. A slight carelessness could draw a swarm of these creatures to attack!
Wayne Malvin, not caring for the Tier-3 or Tier-4, came here with his sights set on the Tier-5.
He transformed the Flying Sword into the size of an embroidery needle, carefully tucked it into his palm, and stealthily moved in the darkness, never straying too far from the Resurrection Path. Veteran hunters generally agreed: the area within a 10-mile radius of the Resurrection Path is relatively safe, traversable for those in the Fourth Great Realm; within a 20-mile radius it becomes very dangerous, but still manageable for adventurers from the Fifth Great Realm. Anything beyond 20 miles... Tier-6 Spirit insects are abundant. Even those in the Sixth Great Realm should not tread lightly. Once surrounded by Spirit insects, there’s a real danger of meeting a dreadful death!
Wayne Malvin planned to operate only within the 20-mile radius, not daring to challenge the extreme.
Suddenly, there was a faint presence drawing closer to him. The stranger didn’t seem to harbor any enmity and revealed his whereabouts early on. He approached slowly, seeming rather ’safe’.
"Hmm?" Wayne Malvin frowned, stopping to wait for the stranger to approach, curious as to who it might be. Soon, a delightfully dressed fellow emerged from the darkness. He greeted Wayne cheerfully with his hands raised, "I mean no harm. I’m here looking for a partner. Are you new here, bro?"
Wayne Malvin coldly declined: "I don’t wish to cooperate with a stranger whose background I know nothing about."
Seeing him walk away, the man quickly shouted, "Don’t be hasty! Regardless of whether we can strike a deal, we should always discuss it first. You newly-arriveds don’t yet understand the situation. I’ve already tried, it’s very tricky here. These Tier-5 Spirit Insects are even stronger than those on the layer above, and they all have very sensitive spiritual senses. I’ve tried several times, and no matter how careful, I can’t avoid startling other bugs. They pounce on me in a swarm. It’s seriously annoying.
We are both from the Fifth Great Realm. Cooperating will enable us to catch the Tier-5 Spirit Insect swiftly. We can grab two, one for each. It’s a fair and rational proposal."
Wayne Malvin didn’t stop walking, replying coldly, "If you can’t catch any alone, that simply means you aren’t skilled enough! How do you know I can’t do it?"
Unrelenting, the man said, "Allow me to introduce myself, I am Leroy Baker, the young master of the wealthy Baker family. To be frank, not many out there are richer than us. I possess a lot of high-level magic instruments and am quite adept at fighting techniques. No offense, but you might not beat me. Collaborating with me, you’re the one who stands to benefit."
Wayne Malvin stopped and turned around, stating, "Then allow me to introduce myself. I am Wayne Malvin, the son of the Commander of the Central Prison. I also own many magical instruments. Not to look down on you, but the treasures of this world often cannot be bought with Spirit Jade, it takes power to exchange!"
Leroy smiled awkwardly, "Oh, so you’re that..." He trailed off, not saying anything more.
"Hmph!" Wayne snorted, knowing what the man was insinuating, and ignored him as he continued to walk on. Taking a deep breath, Leroy said, "Well then, you’re a ’I won’t turn back unless I hit a wall’ type, aren’t you? I’ll wait here for you while you go try it out. If you find you can’t do it, we can cooperate when you come back."
Without looking back, Wayne Malvin walked away."
Not long after, he fled back, with the ground shaking behind him. Chasing him were three ferocious Tier-5 Spirit Insects! Leroy let out a chuckle, holding a talisman in his hand and beckoning to Wayne, "Brother Wayne, come quickly!"
As Wayne rushed over, Leroy grabbed his shoulder while crushing the talisman. A ring of spiritual light shrouded the two men; then, with a brief flash, whisked them into the void. Their presence disappeared as soon as the duo vanished, leaving the three Spirit Insects roaring in rage. After circling the area for quite some time, reluctantly, they dispersed.
Some miles away, the two men emerged from the ring of light. Leroy, beaming, reassured, "It’s all good, no need to be upset. With our joint efforts, we can easily break through the second barrier. We should at least belong to the top ten of this second barrier."
Wayne’s face darkened, but this time he didn’t reject the proposal to cooperate.
The two spaced themselves about thirty feet apart and progressed side by side. Soon, they found a Tier-5 Spirit Insect, which was sound asleep in its nest. Lying nearby was a partially-eaten corpse of a Tier-4 Spirit Insect.
Leroy signaled with his hand; they crept silently to surround it. Just as they prepared to make a move, a silhouette suddenly flashed across the sky. With impressive footwork, it swiftly passed between the two men. With a gentle downward push of the hand, the sleeping Tier-5 Spirit Insect roared in rage and was about to strike back, but mysteriously, it abruptly turned into a docile kitten, allowing itself to be put into an earthenware jar!
The man finished storing the Tier-5 Spirit Insect and quickly fled, in the blink of an eye, disappearing into the darkness.
"Owen Bertram!" Both Wayne Malvin and Leroy called out simultaneously, clenching their teeth in frustration. Unfortunately, Owen had already fled too far.
Slightly taken aback, they both simultaneously blurted, "You know him?"
"You have a grudge against him too?" Again, they echoed each other.
The pair exchanged glances, and a strange connection formed between them: So it turns out...they shared a common grief, and both were wronged men!
They weren’t sure why, but they felt a sense of camaraderie, and their cooperation improved significantly.
"Don’t be discouraged! That guy cleaned out all the high-tier Spirit Insects in the previous layer, but this one is different. Here, all are high-tier Spirit Insects, and he might not be able to handle it alone. We will certainly be able to find our own loot!"
