Chapter 394: Chapter 337: Great Elder Brother_1
Owen Bertram thought to himself, "So that’s how it is."
He knew about this matter since Nathan Lane had reported it to him specifically: during the hunting team’s period of exterminating demon beings, they would sell a limited number of spots for herb gatherers.
The number of herb gatherers relying on the Copper Gorge Extinction Domain for their livelihood was enormous, and though their realms were not high, they were very familiar with the Extinction Domain. Now that the Horizon Bureau had closed the Copper Gorge, their survival had become a problem. It would be better to allow limited access. Among these people, some would be lucky enough to find invaluable spiritual medicines and become rich overnight.
By the time the hunting team had mostly cleaned up the demon beings and completely lifted the restriction on herb gatherers, the experiences of these lucky ones would be deliberately publicized, inevitably attracting more low-level cultivators to join their ranks.
Owen Bertram agreed with this approach, but he didn’t expect that "limited access" would form such a large scale so quickly.
However, the level at which Owen Bertram operated was far removed from that of the herb gatherers. He had never heard of the "Nolan Gordon" who had a great reputation according to the middle-aged fat man.
Owen looked in the direction indicated by the middle-aged fat man and saw a group of herb gatherers surrounding a young man in his early twenties. The young man was wearing coarse cloth garments, had a striking appearance with fierce eyes and a square forehead. His cultivation had reached the Fourth Great Realm, and those who surrounded him indeed had a higher overall strength compared to the other herb gatherers.
Owen got an idea, cupped his fists, and smiled, "Thank you for the introduction, brother."
The middle-aged fat man waved his hand with a smile, "No need to be so polite, my name is Foster Michael. Call me Old Michael. Come on, I’ll take you to meet Brother Nolan."
Owen nodded, "Alright, Brother Foster." He secretly suppressed his realm, appearing to others as a cultivator at the Third Great Boundary level.
Foster Michael led him into the crowd, "Brother Nolan, I found a suitable candidate, we have enough people now."
Nolan Gordon looked at Owen and accurately judged, "Is this your first time doing this, brother?"
Owen nodded, "It is. Us rogue cultivators have a tough time, and I had no choice but to try my luck in the Extinction Domain."
Nolan patted him on the shoulder, "We’re all in the same boat, don’t worry. Once in the Extinction Domain, you’ll stick with me and refrain from acting on your own. I won’t let you die for nothing."
Owen nodded, "I understand."
A person dressed as a Daoist priest nearby interjected, "However, let’s get the ugly words out first. Once we enter the Extinction Domain, we’ll be united. If someone disobeys orders and acts recklessly, endangering others, we do have our family laws to deal with that!"
No one else spoke up, as someone had to play the role of the bad guy and establish rules. The priest continued, "Brother Nolan is kind, but I, Daoist Dwayne, have been elected by everyone to enforce family laws, and I’m impartial and unrelenting in punishing mistakes!"
Owen cupped his hands and sincerely said, "Do not worry, Master Dwayne. I have been struggling in the cultivation world for many years, and I understand the importance of these matters."
Daoist Dwayne nodded in satisfaction, "Good, let’s get ready and set off as soon as possible. Several teams have already entered, and if we’re any later, the good stuff will be taken by those fellows first."
Actually, they didn’t have much to prepare. Everyone just got to know each other, reported their names, as well as key information about their divine skills, which would facilitate Nolan’s arrangement and dispatch.
Owen made up a false name for himself, "My name is Conard Bertram. I specialize in sword skills."
This name and ability sounded quite ordinary, as among cultivators, eight out of ten used flying swords.
In addition to Owen, there were thirty members in the team; most of them were old-timers who had been following Nolan, while only four were newcomers like him.
"Alright, everyone, let’s move out."
At Twins Gate, Horizon Bureau military officers guarded the place. Nolan led the team over to see the officers, counted their heads, and each person paid one hundred spirit jades to gain access to the Copper Gorge Extinction Domain.
The price was very cheap; just finding an ordinary spiritual medicine in the Extinction Domain could cover their costs and make a small profit. If they were lucky enough to find high-level spiritual medicine, it would be a huge profit. Once the demon beings were wiped out, the price would rise to two thousand spirit jades per person.
Owen kept his head low, deliberately being low-key, and was not recognized by the military officers.
The military officers didn’t see Owen much and never expected their superior to mingle with the lowly herb gatherers.
This time, Owen followed the actions of the herb gatherers on a whim. However, he knew that the higher the level of a cultivator, the more accurate their "whims" were. As he was planning on entering the Extinction Domain anyway, there was no harm in following the herb gatherers. If nothing extraordinary was discovered, Owen would leave the team and search for the dandelion on his own, without wasting time.
Once they passed the Twins Gate, Nolan explained to everyone some precautions to take when gathering herbs in the Extinction Domain. This was mainly for the newcomers like Owen. Then the group dispersed into formation, and everyone began their individual searches.
Nolan, Daoist Dwayne, and Foster Michael, whose cultivation levels were the highest and had the most experience, took the lead, clearing potential dangers ahead of the team.
They could keep 60% of the spiritual medicines they found while handing over the remaining 40%. Out of this "public share", Nolan and his two friends took 30% while the rest was shared equally amongst everyone.
This system catered to everyone, ensuring that even those with poor strength and bad luck could at least break even after entering the Extinction Domain.
