Chapter 295: Chapter 290: Copper Gorge_1

Adair Barton’s consciousness had long been erased by Owen Bertram using the Commander’s Token. All that remained was the purest of spiritual essence, so despite being strenuous, Lord’s devouring process was unimpeded.

This was a slow absorption process. Owen Bertram did not have the patience to wait, so he opened the storage brocade pouch containing the two coffins.

The golden coffin was originally holding Calvin.

During the day, Owen Bertram had given Calvin, as an important "human witness", to his Horizon Captain. He unpried the coffin that formerly housed the Mesmerizing Demon and indeed, he found Calvin discarded inside!

However, the Mesmerizing Demon seemed to really like the golden coffin and did not want to come out of it.

As soon as Owen Bertram opened the storage pouch, he could feel the girl inside the golden coffin shivering.

Lord Algernon was very annoyed: what are you all so afraid of me for? First, it was the Magpie, now another Mesmerizing Demon joined! You guys are touted as legendary monsters, can’t you show a bit of commanding presence?

Likened to the spoilt daughters of a rich man.

But the more timid the Mesmerizing Demon acted, the less fierce he could be. He could only open the coffin by its side, albeit less effective than the golden coffin, and stuffed the Lord inside it.

When he comes out of the coffin, he should be a Tier-5 great ghost.

Owen Bertram started making his plans: once the Lord has undergone metamorphosis, I will let him take the Mesmerizing Demon back to the Ghost Zone. Upon seeing a fellow kind, the Corpse Fiend might just impulsively take the demon in as his god-daughter.

His control over the Ghost Zone will be greatly enhanced!

...

Calvin and David started arguing.

Now that Kent King was taken down by Owen Bertram, Black-water County was left without a Magistrate. However, people from Looking Cloud Cliff swiftly took over.

The Horizon Bureau had extensive experience in this aspect and within the day, they had thoroughly uprooted the Harrison clan from Black-water County.

However, when it came to the matter of managing Black-water County, the scholarly Calvin stubbornly insisted on acting as the temporary county magistrate. He would rather run two errands at once than let the Horizon Bureau lay their hands on the authority of the County Government Office.

David was furious and thought the old fellow was purposely making things difficult for him!

At this time, Owen Bertram had left Black-water County first.

Without Lord Algernon to mediate, both sides had to contend based on their own abilities. Despite David initially having the upper hand due to his higher cultivation level, Calvin stubbornly stood at the entrance of the County Government Office and prevented everyone from the Horizon Bureau from entering. David was so annoyed that he almost drew his sword to sever Calvin, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Owen Bertram left all his followers in Black-water County this time and returned to Looking Cloud Cliff alone. Besides the Old Fisher there, a new batch of reinforcements from the Horizon Bureau has also arrived, ensuring an ample supply of manpower.

However, halfway through his journey, Owen Bertram diverged towards another direction: the Copper Gorge Extinction Domain.

...

The Copper Gorge Extinction Domain is located upstream of the Great River, and due to this region’s presence, even to this day, the Wood Dynasty still does not know the exact source of the Great River.

The Puppet Demon Beasts constantly coming down from the upstream of the Great River posed a great hidden threat to the Iron Spear Underground Palace.

Owen Bertram stood atop a towering cliff, a location very similar to his Summit Guard Post, but even more majestic and splendid. The cliffs were sheer, rising vertically from its foot to its peak, seven hundred fathoms above the surface of the river, looking down would make anyone’s head spin. The river water surged like an angry dragon, splashing large masses of spray as it clashed against the giant rocks on the banks. Among the waters lurked hidden fierce creatures that revealed themselves sporadically, staining the river with patches of blood - indicating a battle had taken place underneath with victorious survivors.

The victors feasted on the corpses of the losers.

This was the location where the Great River flowed out from the Copper Coffin Gorge. Facing it was another similarly towering and precipitous mountain peak. These rocks, after enduring countless eras of weathering, had turned a deep azure color. Various sturdy plants found sustenance and grew, with large patches of "Ghost Vine" closer to the river surface.

These plants dropped their thin tendrils into the water, similar to humans fishing. Once a Fierce Fish swam past, they would instantly coil around it, plunging their thorns into the prey’s body and drain its blood in an instant.

Moving upwards through these two cliff-like gates led directly into the Copper Gorge Extinction Domain, a place teeming with demon beings similar to the Ghost Vine!

Owen Bertram paused momentarily at this place, ready to enter the Extinction Domain, when a sudden gust of river wind blew over, carrying sounds from a distance.

With a sidelong listen, he discreetly hid himself, drifting down from the cliff and submerged into the surrounding primal dense forest.

A moment later, a team of three men and three women, certainly no ordinary people, came charging through the underbrush. The weakest was of the Third Great Boundary, while the most powerful was from the Fifth Great Domain!

The leader, who was of the Fifth Great Domain, was in the form of a young girl. She was thin and short, about two heads shorter than the others, and was wearing a flowery cotton padded jacket, looking extremely festive and cute.

But when she turned around, she revealed an old and shriveled face. Her eyes were cloudy and gloomy. From under her flowery jacket, colorful poisonous insects crawled in and out.

The woman of the lowest realm amongst the six was a pretty young woman in her late teens. What left a deep impression was the natural peach blossom-like imprint on her forehead.

This young woman was also tightly guarded in the center by the other five.

The old woman in the child’s body lightly stepped forward. From under her flowery jacket, hundreds of poisonous insects fell and quickly burrowed in all directions.

The old woman opened her mouth with a voice as uncomfortable as sawing wood, "I have asked the children to check the surroundings. If it’s safe, we’ll rest here for a while."

Owen Bertram hid on one side, with the insects burrowing over the ground towards him, some flying in the air. If any anomaly were detected, they would immediately report back to the old woman.

This method was truly amazing. Many stealth techniques were useless in the face of a swarm of insects because their way of perceiving the outside world was completely different from humans.

The old woman had great confidence in her divine skill. Without any reports from her ’children’, she calmly sat on a rock without any precautions.

However, when those insects got to Owen Bertram, they subconsciously turned a corner and bypassed Owen Bertram, heading elsewhere.

Owen Bertram silently smirked and quietly retracted the Jade Cicada Response Object.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, all the poisonous insects crawled back tenaciously into the old woman’s flowery jacket. The old woman cracked a loose smile, revealing her few scattered black teeth, "A bunch of unruly servants, quickly prepare a seat for the young lady."

One of the four individuals from the Fourth Great Realm, a middle-aged woman, took out a chair from her Storage Brocade Pouch with a forced smile, "Please have a seat, Miss."

The other three men kept close around the young lady.

The young lady had a cold expression, seemingly deaf and blind to their actions, she neither acknowledged nor seated herself. Instead, she continued to stare at the raging river below the cliff, her mind seemingly lost in thought.

The old woman primed a Communication Talisman while staring at the young lady, then harrumphed coldly, rudely admonishing, "Emma Scott, I advise you to accept your fate obediently, don’t think about escaping. We are already at the Copper Coffin Gorge, you, merely being of the Third Great Realm, even if we were to let you escape, could you do so?

In the end, you would end up in the stomach of a demon beast or nourishment for a demon plant.

You are from the Scott Clan, since the moment you were conscious, you should have embraced this realization: Your marriages are not for you to decide! The Scott Clan has given you everything, your all should comply with the family’s arrangement, to secure the greatest interest for the clan!"
