Chapter 285: Chapter 280: Borrowing Demon Techniques_1
Indeed, after the four of them entered the city, they openly inquired about the Harrison clan and Lifeless Gorge at the tea house. The news quickly reached York Harrison. In response, this local head of the Harrison family made a common mistake that local tyrants tend to make.
"A bunch of foreigners, not knowing who has the final say in Black-water County!" York Harrison snorted coldly. "First, send someone to keep an eye on them. If they go to Lifeless Gorge, inform Elder Collins and the others to take care of them."
One of his subordinates asked, "What if they don’t go there?"
"Send a message to Kent King and let the County Government Office send someone to arrest them and put them in jail. If they dare resist, we’ll report it to the Imperial Court and have the officials capture them!"
Once their orders were given, the servants quickly sent out three groups of people. One group trailed the four outsiders, another went to notify those at Lifeless Gorge, and the servant personally went to the County Government Office. After all, negotiating with the County Magistrate required someone with a higher status.
When he arrived at the gate of the County Government Office, he suddenly saw the four people swaggering in. The servant was taken aback, "Why do they look so familiar?" and then smacked his forehead, "Aren’t they the four foreign strangers?"
"What are they going to the County Government Office for?"
...
Owen Bertram entered the Main Hall, easily intimidating the government officials and clerks he encountered along the way by showing his Lord Algernon’s Token. Accompanied by them, he eventually arrived in front of Kent King.
The Imperial Court’s official documents had already been issued, and all counties within the jurisdiction of the river had Owen Bertram’s control.
Kent King, seeing the Lord Algernon’s Token, felt suspicious, but still followed the formalities. "I didn’t realize Lord Algernon had arrived. I was about to go to Looking Cloud Cliff to pay my respects after receiving the official documents yesterday."
Owen Bertram waved his hand: "I need to go to Lifeless Gorge. Please lead the way, Lord King."
He wasn’t in a hurry to save Sophia from Lifeless Gorge because Magpie had already brought Little Ghost Gregory Ryan to that place.
Kent King’s heart skipped a beat, "What is Lord Algernon going to do in Lifeless Gorge?"
Owen Bertram fixed him with a stern stare, "Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t be asking! Have we at the Horizon Bureau not killed anyone in recent years? Is everyone feeling bold enough to criticize us?"
Secretly cursing his bad luck, Kent King quickly bowed and responded, "I wouldn’t dare. I will lead the way now."
Owen Bertram snorted coldly. As Kent King stepped out, he noticed that Owen had brought some of his subordinates from the County Government Office, including the clerks. Smiling, Kent King said, "Lord Algernon, these people still have official duties to attend to. Why not let them stay in the office?"
Owen Bertram nodded indifferently, "Very well."
After giving a signal to one of his trusted aides, Kent King led Owen Bertram and the other three people out of the office. With Kent King absent, the trusted aide was planning to leave through the back door of the County Government Office to inform York Harrison.
However, after leaving the County Government Office, Owen Bertram suddenly announced, "I’ve changed my mind. Lord King, please introduce me to the local tyrant, York Harrison."
Kent King’s heart skipped a beat again, puzzled as he looked at Owen Bertram. To his surprise, Owen Bertram reassured him, "Lord King, don’t be overly concerned. I’m aware that the Harrison Clan has people within the Imperial Court and isn’t a family that can be easily insulted. I simply have some matters I need York Harrison for."
"Alright." Kent King changed direction, leading Owen Bertram and the others to the old residence of the Harrison Clan.
Inside the County Government Office, Kent King’s trusted aide was just about to leave when he saw a sapling suddenly sprout from the open ground outside the Main Hall. It grew incredibly fast, and in the blink of an eye, it turned into a towering tree. Its branches hung down, turning the entire County Government Office into a huge cage!
"What kind of demonic creature is this?!" The trusted aide was shocked, and the people inside the office were thrown into disarray. The two cultivators among the officials brought by Kent King revealed somber expressions and prepared to act when they found that their actions only provoked the "demonic tree." Its branches whipped at them mercilessly. The two cultivators had no chance to fight back, rolling on the ground before being tied up and hung upside down from the tree by the branches!
The government officials were utterly speechless, huddling together and not daring to make any moves.
Outside the office, York Harrison’s servant watched the four strangers enter and quickly hid. Before long, he saw Kent King exit the office with the four strangers. He was quick-witted and immediately hid near the back door to wait.
However, no one appeared despite his long wait, and a large tree suddenly grew within the confines of the office grounds.
York Harrison’s servant was extremely puzzled, wondering what on earth was going on. He hurried back to report to York, but by the time he arrived, he was already behind Owen Bertram and the others.
...
After making arrangements on how to deal with the four outsiders, York Harrison didn’t give it much more thought. As local tyrants like himself would encounter many such impetuous individuals every year, most of them ended up as corpses thrown into the river to feed the fish.
But suddenly, a servant came to report, "Master, the County Magistrate has arrived and has brought four people with him. Those people look like the foreigners we’ve heard about."
"Hmm?" York Harrison was quite surprised, unable to understand what was going on for a moment.
"Let them in first."
York Harrison decided to be cautious and called in the Grandmaster who was residing in his house, "Mr. Harris, there might be some trouble. I’m going to meet the guests, please be ready in secret."
He briefly explained the situation to Mr. Harris. In Black-water County, who wouldn’t show their respect to a master of the Fourth Great Realm by addressing him as "Master"?
With a slight nod, Mr. Harris expressed his confidence, "Clan Leader, feel at ease to meet your guests. No matter what happens, I will be there to protect you. However, I need to ask one thing first. What level of control should I exert in this matter? If I accidentally use too much force and kill someone ..."
York Harrison hesitated for a moment before gritting his teeth, "Even if they die, it doesn’t matter. This is a critical moment, and we cannot afford any mistakes!"
Mr. Harris stroked his beard and smiled, "Alright, I understand."
York Harrison nodded, feeling reassured as he headed to the front hall to receive his guests.
...
As they waited for York Harrison, Owen Bertram acted like a typical rude guest. He didn’t drink tea or sit still, instead strolling around the courtyard outside with his hands clasped behind his back. The servants who tried to stop him were met with an intimidating stare and retreated nervously.
Kent King became more and more worried, but David’s constant watchful gaze made him feel like a rabbit being watched by a poisonous snake, too afraid to make any unusual movements.
Finally, the sound of footsteps approached, and York Harrison appeared with a smile, "County Magistrate..."
In an instant, Owen Bertram’s figure reappeared in the hall. With a flick of his finger, a green light talisman fell onto York Harrison, binding him.
York Harrison’s polite words were cut off as Owen Bertram instantly subdued him!
Kent King’s face changed as he exclaimed, "What is the meaning of this, Lord Algernon? The Harrison Clan has connections within the Imperial Court, so you should pick a softer target if you want to make trouble!"
Owen Bertram sneered back at him and simultaneously opened his hand towards a certain direction.
From that direction, a surge of powerful energy burst forth, and a spectral beast’s soul leaped out, roaring and lunging at Owen Bertram through the air!
Mr. Harris’s voice rang out, "Ignorant fool, you’ve sought your own demise!"
