Chapter 264: Chapter 262: Demon Wood Seed Bank_1
"Who?"
"That County Magistrate."
David felt it wasn’t of much relevance: "Finding the Devouring Element Bees Swarm was a mere coincidence and it has nothing to do with him, whether it’s from Owen Bertram’s side or the Demon Clan."
Old Fisher analyzed more rationally: "The Devouring Element Bees Swarm came to light because the County Magistrate reported it, which made upper echelons notice what was happening in Casterly County. If he works for King IIias, he would have no reason to do so."
Owen Bertram agreed, but Nathan Lane insisted: "How could a mere civil servant - and not a cultivator - identify the Element-devouring Bees? It could really be coincidental... forget it, I will investigate myself."
Owen Bertram, considering that both he and the Prescott Group at the Looking Cloud Cliff could be attacked by creatures from the Sixth Great Realm, thought Nathan going to the County Town to investigate was a good idea as it would be safer: "Alright."
Then he added, "Old Fisher, you stay at the Looking Cloud Cliff, David, and Mayor Devin will accompany me to Sanma Village."
"As you command!"
Everyone spent the night at the Prescott’s Group in the Looking Cloud Cliff. The corpses of the Leech Demon, Cow Demon, and Tree Granny that Owen Bertram had killed were collected by his men and stored in a Storage Brocade Pouch.
Ethereal Devin also reported that the Eagle Demon’s body was missing. Owen Bertram nodded indifferently without asking further. Ethereal Devin found it somewhat strange but Lord Prescott was always mysterious so he didn’t say more.
Owen Bertram rummaged through the Demon Clan’s corpses and found a Storage Brocade Pouch each on the Cow Demon and Tree Granny, but the Leech Demon’s pouch was burnt down.
Owen Bertram sighed in regret. Opening each confiscated Storage Brocade Pouch always gave him the thrill of unlocking a treasure chest in a video game—with a reward several times more generous.
First, he opened the Cow Demon’s Storage Brocade Pouch. It didn’t contain much, just a few common Treasure Materials and basic Spiritual Pills.
Plainly speaking, it was a pouch of a pauper—a situation Owen Bertram was all too familiar with: a sturdy bachelor usually doesn’t have much in savings...
Next, he opened Tree Granny’s Storage Brocade Pouch, and the booty astounded him. The Demon Clan elderly woman’s Storage Brocade Pouch was divided into three spaces: the middle section contained seeds of over thirty Spirit Trees and Demon Wood species, with dozens of each.
The left section held more than a dozen Earthenware Jars, each filled with various types of Divine Water.
In the right section were wooden boxes, each filled to the brim with varieties of Spiritual Soils.
The Divine Water and Spiritual Soil were all Tier-3 or Tier-4, quite high-ranking.
Around all these were uncut and unpolished Spirit Jade stones.
These are the foundation of Tree Granny’s fighting techniques. She cultivates Spirit Trees and Demon Wood rapidly and uses them to wield potent demon magic.
However, Tree Granny’s fighting style was inherently weak against Owen Bertram.
Despite her rapid cultivation, Tree Granny’s demon magic was slow. Her best option when dealing with Owen Bertram would have been to set up traps in advance and lure him into her territory.
Equipments like the Immortal Binding Rope, Responsive Objects, Flexible Objects, Five-toothed Flying Sword, and other techniques, if initiated, would launch a quick and fierce attack that Tree Granny would find hard to defend from.
However, the Demon Clan’s attack on Prescott’s Group at the Looking Cloud Cliff was a last-minute decision by Master Jacob. Moreover, there was an unspoken agreement within the Demon Clan. They were searching for Owen Bertram who was a "partner," so they couldn’t take extreme measures.
They were unaware that Owen Bertram had been arrested and there was a change in ownership at the Looking Cloud Cliff.
The Demon Clan was obviously more powerful, which is why Tree Granny did not start setting up the moment she arrived at the Looking Cloud Cliff. By the time Owen Bertram suddenly struck, it was too late.
She didn’t have time to go through her whole set of maneuvers – planting with Spiritual Soil, irrigating with Divine Water, and cultivating by crushing Spirit Jade.
Now Owen Bertram stood to gain.
He gave the Divine Water to Joseph Gourd — which drove Gourd Elder mad with jealousy: I also contributed in the battle, why didn’t the Master reward me and only Joseph?
Is Victor more favored?
Joseph Gourd was ecstatic. Absorbing so many types of Divine Water substantially increased his strength.
Owen Bertram kept the remaining Spiritual Soil, seeds, and Spirit Jade rough stones. He was very interested in the first two and planned to sow them in the outpost’s backyard when he returned.
Finally, Owen Bertram opened Master Jacob’s Storage Brocade Pouch.
Demon Clan’s magical weapons vary from those of the Human Race in that most were refined from their own components such as horns and claws.
They are usually stored inside the body.
This time when the Demon Clan sneaked into the Wood Dynasty, they seemingly prepared for "aftermath", only bringing a few commonly used items. The truly valuable items were probably left in the Demon Court.
This could be discerned from the Storage Brocade Pouch of the Cow Demon and Tree Granny. It was the same with Master Jacob.
However, Master Jacob had a large number of "treasure" components from the Demon Clan!
Sixteen horns, twenty-one tusks, ten hides, nineteen Demon Hearts...
These piled up to half a meter high and were all Tier-3 and Tier-4 Demon Clan components. Owen Bertram was shocked for a bit before understanding: Master Jacob was here for trading, right?
Obviously, he brought all the components collected from Demon Clan killings over the years. He probably planned to sell them for a good price in the Human Race territory, through Owen Bertram or anyone else, after the collaboration was over.
These items are not valuable within the Demon Clan, but are scarce in the territory of the Human Race!
"What a smart chap!" Owen Bertram gave a thumbs up, then took the loot to his own materials inventory. He also had several ideas on how to use these materials to craft magical weapons.
Aside from these materials, the Storage Brocade Pouch contained two more treasures.
One was a "Skin Painting" as thin as a cicada’s wing. No one knew what it was made of, but demons could use it to disguise themselves as humans, and humans as demons.
The other was a drop of special "Demon Blood".
This was no common item; it was an exotic artifact brought over from Demon Emperor’s treasure house by the Nine Witch Demon Court. It was intended to corrupt the relics of the Marco clan!
Put a drop on the relic and it infiltrates the remains. Even the Seventh Level probe might not detect it. Once the Demon Emperor activates it, all of King IIias’s gains will be for naught!
This artifact was extremely precious, and Owen Bertram wasn’t sure how he could use it now that it landed in his hands — better just keep it first.
Tallying up the spoils of this war, Owen Bertram was very satisfied.
He came out and handed Ethereal Devin the "trash" from the Cow Demon’s Storage Brocade Pouch that he found unappealing: "Reward the men with these. You set the rules for who gets more and who gets less. Ensure everyone gets something."
Ethereal Devin was overjoyed: "On behalf of the brothers, I thank the Lord!"
When Ethereal Devin went out and made the announcement, cheers rang throughout the Prescott’s Group.
These items may not be of much use to Owen Bertram, but for the ordinary Military Officers, they were rare treasures!
Owen Bertram smirked and gave Julian Gourd a light pat, asking his second brother, "Do the demons eat this?"
Julian Gourd looked disgusted: No.
