Chapter 1823: Chapter 662: Bah!_1

In the water mirror, young Owen Bertram called out, "Dad, Mom..."

In the Demon Cloud Abyss, Master Bertram suddenly closed his eyes with all his might. This small action took up almost all of his strength. Purely in terms of his physical strength, this incarnation was no less powerful than his original body, thanks to his brother’s scales and tears.

To stop himself from continuing to watch, it took all his strength just to close his eyes! The images in the water mirror were far from simple, they were more than just "temptations", there was a rule forcing those who stood in this void to watch!

Master Bertram had great willpower and strength, which allowed him to close his eyes. He was certain, "as long as I close my eyes and stop watching, everything in the water mirror will stop playing!"

Indeed, the water mirror swayed slightly, and all the images and sounds disappeared. Master Bertram deduced from this that the rules that were condensed in this void should be related to the "six senses", mainly the sense of sight and hearing, but it could not directly penetrate into the thinking.

Master Bertram stopped watching because he sensed an anomaly. His memory of the time before he came to the Extinct Village in this body was a blank. Over the years, he has always been doubtful about his and Verna’s identities; the more he understood the secrets of higher levels, the stronger his doubts.

This can be considered Master Bertram’s knot, also a desire. Yet, despite the curiosity of many people in the Eight Desolates World and the Heaven Realm about the siblings’ identities, no one could figure them out. Was it possible for such a high-level "secret" to be easily revealed to Master Bertram without any cost?

This place is not a charitable wishing well, it’s the extremely dangerous Demon Cloud Abyss!

Desires can be seen as "heart demons", they are equally dangerous. Master Bertram dared not accept such a gift. However, from the moment he saw the image in the water mirror, he was certain: it was real, and it was not a fabricated lie to deceive him.

What’s free is the most expensive!

Moreover, the accuracy of the water mirror in uncovering his inner desires was just too terrifying.

When Master Bertram closed his eyes, there were no more fluctuations in the water mirror. When Master Bertram raised his hand— the Sons were itching to move, yet the water mirror and this void did not respond at all.

The water mirror seemed not worried at all that Master Bertram would destroy this place or simply close his eyes and leave. Master Bertram closed his eyes and raised his hand, and his little fellows were eager to try, as long as their grandpa ordered, there were many delicious things around here, they wanted to have a feast.

After what seemed like a very long process, Master Bertram, with his eyes still closed, let out a bitter smile: "You got me. Indeed, I’m hesitant. Even though it’s full of risks, if I miss this opportunity, I might never be able to know where me and Verna originally came from!"

The water mirror was still calm while Master Bertram still had his eyes closed: "The more you get from this place, the heavier the price will be. You indeed got me, but I am not an ordinary person. Do you believe that I can endure it and reject these decryptions? In my heart, what is most important is not where me and my sister came from, but my relationship with my sister. As long as we both can live well, what our origin is doesn’t matter to me!"

After finishing his words, Master Bertram suddenly paused.

In the distance, in the Eight Desolates World, the Capital of the Eastern Land, inside a small courtyard. Verna had just driven away a Demon Beast that was as big as a cow from her back garden- the creature didn’t know where it came from, but Verna beat it into two black eyes with her chubby little fists- and snatched an ant nest from it.

The ant nest was inhabited by a group of crimson fire ants. The adults had been eliminated by the demon beast, and in the depths of the nest were small, white, plump ant eggs piled up like a mountain. Verna was trying hard to stuff them into her big pot, saliva flowing freely.

Suddenly, from the highest point descended a special force. In the Capital, many powerful beings were sitting, including Abner Lane and Nick Liam; none of them noticed any anomalies, which showed the mysterious and powerful nature of this force!

The force seemed elusive, hovering above the Capital before swooping down on Verna, like a hawk that had found its prey. Verna naturally pulled out a large spoon from behind her waist, waved her round arms, and slammed it upward.

Bang--

The entire void violently vibrated!

Abner Lane, who was meditating, was shocked awake. His vision blurred with stars and his ears were buzzing, as if thousands of wasps had gotten inside his head.

"What’s going on?!"

All the strong cultivators within a thousand miles were as surprised as Abner Lane! Cultivators below the Fifth Great Domain sensed nothing, as they hadn’t reached that level to perceive such changes in the void.

Those above the Seventh Realm, like Abner Lane, felt like they had been struck by a heavy punch. Those in the Sixth and Fifth Realms got the worst of it, they bled from all orifices and collapsed right there.

At first, they thought they had been cursed or tricked by some kind of evil magic, but it only happened once, and they were all ready to deal with a powerful enemy. But after that one time, there was no follow-up. Later, the incident spread, and the whole Eastern Land Cultivation World was in uproar.

Thousands of affected cultivators turned this into a famous "cold case" in the Wood Cultivation World for a long time, with the stories becoming more and more mysterious...

In the Capital, only a few people who were intimate with Master Bertram knew the truth, such as Abner Lane, who casually glanced over: Oh, it was something Tabitha made out. No wonder then.

...

Master Bertram kept his eyes closed, suddenly sensing a ripple in the water mirror before him. He laughed loudly, "how about my sister? Ha ha ha..."

Master Bertram’s words did not fall on deaf ears, as expected, the power behind the water mirror had the ability to cross the distant darkness to find trouble with his sister- and then predictably was taught a lesson.

Master Bertram always says that in their family, all matters of the world are dealt with by the elder brother. If the elder brother couldn’t solve it, he would ask for Brother’s help. Only the issues that Brother couldn’t solve would be handed over to Alexia.

It seems like a joke, but Master Bertram truly believes this. The brother is his mainstay, and Alexia may well be the brother’s mainstay.

The water mirror obviously suffered a loss, after the ripple, Master Bertram suddenly felt a heavy pressure around him, with a dark, sinister force pressing on him. However, Master Bertram was not afraid, he waved his hand as if plucking the strings of a musical instrument, and the Sons excitedly rushed up to it.

And then... the stalemate remained!

The "Suns" couldn’t devour the overwhelming power that came crashing down, and that power also failed to obliterate them. Mister Sun nodded, "It’s no wonder you dared to meddle with my sister. You do possess some skill."

Mister Sun hadn’t expected to traverse the Demon Cloud Abyss with the ’Suns’ alone. Although the Upper Realm was greatly wary of the Soul-Devouring Hookworms, they dared to gift them to the Lower Realm, and these actions weren’t stopped by the Emperor Venerables. It suggested that at least the Emperor Venerables should have a way to control them.

The void here, situated in the heart of the entire Demon Cloud Abyss, was no surprise to have the power to control the Soul-Devouring Hookworms.

Mister Sun, eyes still closed, said, "You’re no good and I’m no holy man either. Instead of remaining in this deadlock, why don’t we honestly negotiate a deal?"

"You need not hide your intentions and play mysterious with me. If there’s something I want to know, name your price, we can negotiate."

"You utilized the corpses of the Immortal Venerables to set up this arrangement and lure me here. You certainly have more motives than simply wishing me dead."

"Whatever you want to do, I can consider it. If it’s feasible, I’ll help you achieve it. Of course, you’ll need to provide a suitable reward."

As the conversation progressed, Mister Sun switched from being passive to taking the initiative. He became the one considering whether to accept an assignment in exchange for a reward from the Water Mirror.

The Water Mirror gently rippled. Mister Sun, waiting, added, "If you really know our origin, you should also know better than to harbor the delusion of controlling me. That would just be wishful thinking!"

In the Water Mirror, the ripples intensified. Finally, Mister Sun opened his eyes!

This time, Mister Sun saw his youthful self in the mirror, not the same scene as before. Instead, employing his own image, the adult Owen Bertram stands outside the mirror while the young Owen Bertram is inside. This created an eerie feeling. The youthful Owen Bertram didn’t speak, but communicated through writing in mid-air: What secret do you wish to know?

Mister Sun found it awkward to converse with "himself" and retorted, "What exactly are you?"

The young Owen Bertram in the Water Mirror started drawing with his finger, asking: The origin of you and your sister is a top secret, what price are you willing to pay?

Mister Sun asked, "How do you know of such secrets? You must have been trapped here for many years, right?"

Both parties questioned one another, stubborn and unwilling to answer first, as if answering first would mean conceding the upper hand in the conversation.

Finally, after the young Owen Bertram asked a string of questions, Mister Sun spat out in exasperation, coating his youthful counterpart with a mouthful of spit!

The disturbance caused ripples in the Water Mirror. The young Owen Bertram inside was stunned. Is this the appropriate behavior for someone of your status?!

Mister Sun felt relieved, "If we can’t reach an agreement, then forget it! I’m not sticking around!" He rolled up his sleeves, gathered the ’Suns’ and turned to leave. At any rate, I’ve taken a hit at you, and my sister has taken a swing at you. I certainly haven’t come off worse!

However, Mister Sun soon realized he couldn’t leave and turned around to smirk, "Do you want us both to perish?"

The young Owen Bertram in the Water Mirror was boiling with anger. He wrote out a line in a fit of rage to express his indignation: Vulgar and arrogant!

"Hmmph!" Mister Sun responded with a cold snort.

The young Owen Bertram wrote again: "Perform a task for me and I’ll answer a question. I’m giving you a preferential treatment for the first question, which will be relatively easy for you: Report to me the moment the Eight Wastelands World Heavenly Tracks are fully restored."

Mister Sun frowned and counter-questioned, "You have a plot against the Eight Wastelands World?"

"How low-level!" The young Owen Bertram sneered, "The perspectives of creatures in the lower realm are indeed limited to their own world." Mister Sun didn’t bother retorting. The level of the power behind the Water Mirror indeed shouldn’t be scheming about the Eight Wastelands World. It wanted to pinpoint the exact timeslot, probably to initiate something else. However, it truly was trapped here, completely isolated from the outside.

"Fine." Mister Sun agreed.

You may ask your question now, but it can’t be about your identities, the young Owen Bertram wrote.

Mister Sun wasn’t intending to ask that either: "What happened when the Heavenly Editing Brush went missing?"

Mister Sun was being cunning. This was a broad question, and to answer it thoroughly, the young Owen Bertram would effectively have to respond to a string of questions.

The young Owen Bertram laughed coldly. He made it clear that he saw through the trick, but he felt beneath him to quibble with a lower-level being from the lower realm. His figure disappeared from the Water Mirror, replaced by the series of events where the Heavenly Editing Brush went missing!

It started with Order Count Immortal King borrowing the Heavenly Editing Brush from Emperor Arctic.

As Mister Sun watched, he felt that something was off. His mouth involuntarily fell open a little. After the moving images concluded, Mister Sun solemnly inquired, "You mean to say the Heavenly Editing Brush wasn’t actually lost, but those Emperor Venerables intentionally set up a scheme to have Order Count Immortal King bring it here?"

"They even exploited this matter to eliminate a group of uncontrolled Immortal Venerables and Immortal Kings back in the Upper Realm?"

"What was their motive for bringing the Heavenly Editing Brush into the Demon Cloud Abyss?"

The young Owen Bertram reappeared: That’s three questions.
