Chapter 155: Chapter 153 The Strange Bird Makes Its First Appearance_1
Alvin Morgan remained calm, asking one by one how Ava Bertram should improve. Then following the improved Alchemy process, he discovered that after Ava’s improvements, all elixirs had more or less increased effectiveness.
The strangest thing was that the taste of the spiritual pills improved after the adjustments, indeed a lot better than before.
They had truly become "delicious"!
This nearly shattered Alvin’s beliefs: good medicine tastes bitter! The wisdom our ancestors have been telling us for thousands of years, how has it changed when it comes to you?!
Spiritual Pills must taste good to have a good effect.
The best ones are sweet like candy.
Alvin sat there dumbfounded, having tremendous doubts about his own abilities: Do I really have the capability to guide this genius girl in front of me???
Matthew was exhilarated, completely exhilarated!
He walked over to Alvin, patting him on the shoulder, "It’s okay, you’ll get used to it slowly."
Expectation suddenly rose in Verna’s eyes, "Master..." she called out. Alvin came back to his senses, until now Ava had only ever called him "Master," she had never called him Teacher.
"Master, can I eat the leaf you bought yesterday?"
It smells so good, but the elder brother wouldn’t share, he’s so stingy!
Alvin didn’t react immediately: "Leaf?" Then his face drastically changed: "Good disciple, although tasting hundreds of herbs is a beautiful tale of us Pill Masters, you must never actually do that. That leaf from yesterday is extremely poisonous, it can work wonders as a drug inducer in some pill formulas, but it absolutely can’t be directly ingested."
Ava waved her small hands anxiously, "No, no, I will cook it carefully, it will definitely be delicious, it won’t kill... Elder brother doesn’t understand cooking!"
Such a rebellious remark, only Verna dared to say.
Anyhow, to Matthew, "Master" was a dragon above the clouds, Verna’s accusation made Matthew’s heart tremble, he quickly forced himself to forget what she had said.
Alvin was truly intrigued: In Alchemy, poisonous substances aren’t necessarily harmful, if handled well, extreme poison can truly become a great supplement.
His disciple’s talent is extraordinary, why not actually let her try?
Even Alvin had another thought: if it really works, can I learn a thing or two?
Among the Pill Masters in Kai County, he truly was ranked third, with two old immortals ahead of him, which irked the arrogant and conceited Alvin.
If he could learn how to turn this "World’s Extreme Poison" into a "delicious dish", he could show off before those two old immortals, suppressing them in one fell swoop!
Learn from? What learning from? How could a Pill Master’s affairs be considered stealing? Humph!
Alvin asked, "How confident are you?"
"Absolutely!" Verna stuck out her ten chubby little fingers, extremely confident. She almost took off her shoes to show ten chubby toes, indicating she had twenty points of confidence.
Matthew didn’t react in time, Alvin had already gritted his teeth and agreed: "Fine, it’s just 800 Spirit Jade, it’s yours."
"Yeah!" Verna cheered. Matthew figured this was unstoppable but he felt that this matter... was very risky. Master would probably be angry when he comes back.
He quietly slipped away first, telling Alvin, "I wasn’t here today."
...
Owen Bertram had a very fulfilling day. He first "visited" the Gourd Brothers, then his soul attached itself to Little Loach. At a spot about sixty miles downstream of Yukou Town, Little Loach found a Tier-3 Demonic Beast lurking around. The terrain from the river bottom to the land was very complicated. When Little Loach was hunting this Tier-3 Demonic Beast, it accidentally bumped into a boulder on the river bottom. It smarted from the pain for some time.
The boulder was, of course, shattered.
After feasting on the Tier-3 Demonic Beast, Owen Bertram ignited three more meridians, bringing him closer to the completion of Fire Vein.
Theoretically, at his current level, the "profit" from a Tier-3 Demonic Beast wouldn’t be this high. Owen initially guessed that this surge could, at most, ignite his two meridians.
As expected, Brother teased that he was clinging to the Elder Brother this time, enduring hunger and thirst.
"I’m not that young either. Just eating a ’little’ Tier-3 Demonic Beast can’t keep up with my nutritional needs. My growth rate has slowed down these past few days..."
Owen felt helpless: "Just say it, what do you want?"
Little Loach swam to the riverside, poked its head out of the water, and signalled towards a mountain peak a few dozen miles away with its whisker.
Owen also saw it. Atop that mountain, there was a large pale-red boulder.
The sight of it left Little Loach salivating, and Owen understood its hint: that rock seemed to be a kind of ore. Little Loach expressed that it had mostly been eating demonic beasts lately and lacked some high-grade magical instruments, causing its bones to feel slightly brittle. It needed this type of ore to supplement its dietary needs.
Elder Brother turned suspicious: "That stone is right there, and since you can climb up, why don’t you bring it down and eat it yourself?"
Little Loach wagged its tail: "It’s so tiresome to traverse once I get ashore. I am too slow on land."
"Moreover... that rock might be guarded by a fellow who’s a teeny bit stronger than me."
"Naturally, with the Immortal Binding Rope and the Five-Toothed Flying Sword that you possess, Elder Brother, these brats are just pushovers to you."
"I don’t believe you!"
Owen stalled for time, telling Brother he would prepare for a bit, and go quarry for him the next day.
However, as soon as he reached the entrance of the outpost, he saw a bird swiftly fly past him. The bird was so fast it was shocking. Peering closer, Owen vaguely identified it as his puppet.
After killing the Nanni people, he had "forgotten" the bird.
"What is going on today?"
The bird came flying out of the courtyard, straight into the sky, until it was over top of the floating clouds, then with a rapid tuck of its wings, it turned and plummeted down at a speed twice as fast as when it ascended.
Then, with a ’thup’ sound, it plunged into the river and after a moment of turbulent water, its claws caught a Fierce Fish, ten times larger than itself, then flew out of the water!
The Fierce Fish was not to be underestimated. Although it wasn’t at the demonic beast level, it wasn’t far off either.
Clearly weakened under the claw of the bird, the fish was ludicrously larger, however, a simple flap of wing was enough for the bird to hoist the fish to a considerable height. Soon after, Owen watched as the bird descended into a cliff crevice next to the outpost, a nest of eagles. The eagle family was kicked out, their feathers fluttered down upon the wind!
It seized another’s home and devoured the Fierce Fish with gusto.
Owen was dumbfounded: "Something must have happened, it wasn’t this ferocious when I caught it!"
He felt as though he was living the joke from his last life, where a parrot could not defeat an eagle without taking off its clothes, except it was happening right before his eyes.
"But my Spirit Seed can only control, it can’t enhance strength...
As the bird kept stuffing its beak with the food and squawked inside the eagle’s nest, its sound didn’t feel like a sparrow anymore..."
