Chapter 1531: Chapter 561: Beastly Intentions_3
Master Sun’s main targets were the Beasts Palace and the Three Elements Sect, so he focused on monitoring Brain. As for the two Protectors, he only spared a little attention, but he could still react immediately if there was any situation.
Brain’s memories alone brought massive gains to Master Sun.
"Fairy."
Fairy Reed Blade immediately stepped forward, "Daoist Brother, is it successful?"
Master nodded, Fairy Reed Blade’s eyes lit up, "Did Master Duke and the Prophet not notice anything?" Master’s casual demeanor exuded a strong confidence: "Hehe, they are not capable of that."
Master waved his hand, "Let’s not talk about it anymore. From Brain’s memories, I have discovered some interesting things."
"Since the birth of Vermilion Bird and White Tiger, the Beasts Palace has begun to secretly search for the other two Divine Beasts. Their search methods are extremely mysterious and involve their own cultivation techniques, which cannot be explained in one or two sentences. I won’t go into detail. According to Brain’s memories, in the past few years, the Beasts Palace has found traces of Divine Beasts in several places in Central State, but every time they tried to capture one, they were left empty-handed."
"On one occasion, though they failed to catch a Divine Beast, they accidentally encountered another group of people searching for the Divine Beasts, who were just as powerful. After some open and secret confrontations, they figured out each other’s identities, and it turned out to be the Three Elements Sect."
"Later, Master Duke and the Prophet personally intervened, and somehow negotiated a secret alliance. However, both factions kept it strictly confidential, and outsiders knew nothing about it. For example, this time they came to Douglas Country, the King and the Protectors of Douglas were completely unaware of their collusion. After they paid a huge price, they let both factions in. How foolish!"
"Before coming to Douglas Country, the Beasts Palace had prepared a large amount of Treasure Material, which far exceeded the needs of setting up their camp’s Great Formation - the Three Elements Sect might have done the same."
"In addition, Master Duke personally took Brain and others to capture several Tire-7 Monster Beasts. Fairy, can you guess what these Monster Beasts are for?"
Fairy Reed Blade blurted out, "They are bait! They use these Monster Beasts to lure the Divine Beasts!"
Master Sun had the same suspicion and continued, "In their camp, there is a forbidden area. Once the Beasts Palace and the Three Elements Sect arrived here, they selected ten Sixth Realm experts in Array techniques, who have not left the forbidden area ever since. Only Master Duke and the Prophet can enter and exit the forbidden area."
"Brain accidentally overheard a conversation between Master Duke and the Prophet, saying that the Beasts Palace knows a weakness of the Divine Beasts, and the Three Elements Sect happens to have a method to restrain it!"
Fairy Reed Blade could not help but shake her head, "These two factions are simply playing the Douglas Country for fools. I am afraid that they do have a way to control the Divine Beasts. After their success, even if the Protectors turn against them, they can rely on the Divine Beasts to fight their way out, or even directly kill the two Protectors.
If our Douglas Country loses both Protectors, Regan Kingdom will certainly invade immediately and launch a war of extermination!"
She still had a question, "The Beasts Palace and the Three Elements Sect had searched for the Divine Beasts multiple times before without success. Is it possible that the Divine Beast Azure Dragon has been wandering around Central State? Or is it searching for resources needed for its cultivation?"
Master Sun could not answer this question either, "Right now, we can only be sure of one thing; the Beasts Palace and the Three Elements Sect indeed have a method to capture the Divine Beasts and have prepared bait for them. The reason they haven’t acted yet is probably because their arrangements are not yet complete."
Fairy Reed Blade said, "But can their methods really work? That’s one of the Four Divine Beasts!"
Master chuckled, "Fairy and I had the same thought. Are Master Duke and the Prophet being overconfident?"
...
Everything was normal in the camp for Brain, but Master Sun found it a bit difficult to control them:This place was the Extinction Domain, where numerous monsters and demon beasts resided. Roaring sounds of various beasts echoed day and night. Yet, in the ears of Brain, a beast-cultivator, these roars carried discernible meanings.
About 20% of these roars were challenges to stake territory and intimidate other beasts. These provocative roars stirred Brain to instinctively want to confront these roaring fellows.
Another 30% were mating calls, which, for Brain, were even more... problematic, as they stirred uncontrollable reproductive urges.
Even when a bird flew overhead, Brain would unconsciously look up to tell whether it was male or female...
Master was annoyed with the soul-transfer puppet, and didn’t dare to approach the side of Master Duke and the Prophet. Annoyed, he temporarily withdrew his spirits, went to the distant waters, and caught a large fish. Using his Spirit Seed, he transformed the fish into a puppet, and controlled the fish to swim around. After searching for several shichen (two-hour periods), it finally swam into the Fifth Stream.
The deep ravine held an uncanny feeling, with darkness lingering just a bit more than a zhang (3.3 meters) under the water surface. It seemed that light was being affected by some mysterious force. The puppet fish swam unimpeded within this range, but deeper down, it encountered an inexplicable resistance. When it went three zhang below the surface, an even more terrible cold invaded.
This cold was different from the Extinction Domain’s inherent Cold Poison. It was more severe and direct. The puppet fish was frozen stiff and automatically floated to the surface.
Master muttered to himself, "It seems that we would need at least a Tier-6 Monster Beast to dive down, but once a Tier-6 Monster Beast enters the water, it could very likely alert the Divine Beast Avatar..."
Master dispersed his Spirit Seed. The fish regained its nature and quickly fled from the Fifth Stream with all its might. The puppet’s attempt failed, as Master suspected – if such a simple method could work, the various forces wouldn’t be completely clueless about what lay beneath the Fifth Stream.
Master secretly refined a small, intricate mechanical fish in the cave and sent it to the Fifth Stream once again. The mechanical fish was unaffected by the cold, but as it swam deeper, it quickly found itself surrounded by total darkness, unable to see anything.
Master didn’t mind that. He just urged the mechanical fish to sink continuously. After diving several thousand zhang, the fish finally touched the bottom of the river. At this point, Master became extremely cautious, as the following actions would inevitably lead to the Divine Beast Avatar’s pursuit. The mechanical fish opened its mouth, and Jason Gourd flew out. Radiance from the Thousand Eyes Gate spread out, rotating and sweeping across the entire riverbed, revealing everything!
"How could this be?!" Master wondered.
Under the radiance of the Thousand Eyes Gate, every aspect of the riverbed became visible. However, there was no sign of any Divine Beast Avatars, nor the "Divine Beast Nest" mentioned by Bentley. The riverbed was empty except for a huge, black, dragon-shaped pile of ancient bones half-buried in the mud several hundred zhang away. There was a terrifying cold emanating from the bones!
Just as Master intended to have Jason Gourd take a closer look, a black shadow suddenly shot out from the ancient bones. The radiance of the Thousand Eyes Gate fell on the shadow, but in such haste, it couldn’t discern the nature of the shadow.
Jason Gourd was already overwhelmed with fear, desperately pleading, "Master, save me!"
The black shadow moved like lightning in the water, and in the blink of an eye, it closed in. Master had no time to spare – with a Breaking Void Divine Ability, he pulled Jason Gourd out. The powerful force then crushed the mechanical fish into debris. Master’s connection to the mechanical fish was severed, and he could no longer see what was beneath the water.
Whew!
Jason Gourd appeared in an empty mountain area. Master had prepared multiple methods to block the Divine Beast Avatar’s void pursuit, but he didn’t execute them immediately.
Was that shadow the Divine Beast Avatar? Master wanted to take a closer look when it came after them, but Jason Gourd floated in the void for quite a while, and the surroundings were quiet. The shadow didn’t pursue them.
"Strange!"
