Chapter 1288: Chapter 491: Deadly Sin_2

The doors behind the throne suddenly opened wide, and Edgar and his companions all walked through. Julian Gourd then floated and led Edgar through the door at the fastest speed possible, as one must always be on guard.

Graham Takahashi and his three teammates stood up, looking somewhat disheartened, and followed suit.

It was another spacious palace, and Owen Bertram continued to watch, curious to see if the Dragon Water Palace would play any more tricks.

This palace was still vast, with a high platform in the center. A stone-throwing machine was set up on the platform. The machine was driven by a person’s essence force. The greater the essence force, the faster, farther, and more powerful the "stone bullets" could be thrown!

It was clear that the six of them from the Wood Dynasty had an absolute advantage in this challenge. They would quickly destroy the opponent’s stone-throwing machines and high platforms.

Graham Takahashi gritted his teeth and said, "As long as we make our first few shots more accurate and destroy their stone-throwing machines and high platforms before they can use their numerical advantage, we still have a chance to win. Don’t be discouraged, gentlemen..."

Outside, however, the National Master sighed inwardly, realizing that the Dragon Water Palace was no longer siding with Sang Island - or, more accurately, no longer trying to "balance" the two teams’ strength.

She said, "Graham Takahashi, let’s give up. We admit defeat."

"National Master!" The four humiliated Graham Takahashi team members knelt down. "We still have the strength to fight!" If the National Master commanded them to fight to death at this point and they failed, they would continue to doubt her ability. But since the National Master was concerned about their lives and voluntarily conceded, they felt ashamed, thinking themselves unworthy of her expectations.

Did the National Master truly understand their psychology, or were her actions really out of genuine concern for their lives? Only she knew the answer.

"Come back," the National Master said slowly. "You are all the pride of Sang Island, and losing any of you would be a great loss."

She turned to Owen Bertram and said, "We admit defeat in this round, but they alone cannot explore the entire Dragon Water Palace. I want to make another bet with you, sir. When they can’t go any further, you and I will enter the Ancient Annihilation Domain together. I know there must be a Dragon Pearl within this Dragon Water Palace. Whoever finds it will be the winner, with the same stakes as before. Would you, sir, dare to accept this bet?"

Owen Bertram laughed. "Why not?"

Not easily provoked, Owen Bertram had already planned to explore the Ancient Annihilation Domain on his own after the first bet ended, regardless of whether the National Master spoke up or not.

The National Master nodded. "It’s a deal."

Owen Bertram said no more and continued to guide Edgar and his teammates through the challenges. However, he became even more puzzled about the National Master’s strange attitude towards the Ancient Annihilation Domain from the beginning.

At first, Owen Bertram thought he would have to fight the National Master, but she had no intention of doing so. Instead, she proposed a bet. Yet after the bet ended, she didn’t seem to accept the outcome and wanted to compete with him again, still without choosing a direct Seventh Realm battle.

"It seems as if the National Master is trying her best to avoid direct confrontation with me," Owen Bertram speculated. "Is she unable to do so for some reason lately? An injury that prevents her from taking any action?"

Edgar’s team passed through three more palaces before they arrived at a vast plaza, paved with jade bricks. The grand scale of this plaza would undoubtedly make the Emperor of the Wood Dynasty ashamed and urge him to rebuild his Capital’s palace, so great was the difference.

This flat plaza was centered around an Ancient Well with a three-level stone platform at its mouth and eight black Chain Locks wrapped around icy blue flames, stretched tautly and disappearing into the well, presumably holding something in place.

"Splish..."

As soon as Edgar stepped onto the jade brick of the plaza, a loud splash came from the Ancient Well, and water columns as thick as the well-mouth, mixed with icy blue flames, shot into the sky. The water, coming toward the group with a sense of endless resentment, was pitch-black.

"Wah, wah, wah!" The cries of three infants suddenly rang in the ears of the six of them. It was as if long, barbed spikes had penetrated their brains, leaving them in great pain. Blood was oozing from their orifices, and they fell back together, feeling somewhat better after they left the plaza.

They looked at the Ancient Well again, where they saw a huge Sticky Flesh Monster locked in chains and burned by the flame, reluctantly retreating back into the well. Each of them noticed seven or eight organs from various creatures fused together by mucus.

Owen Bertram spoke up, "You should all retreat. The path ahead is beyond your limits." With the help of the treasures bestowed by Owen Bertram, especially the Gourds, attempting to pass through wasn’t impossible, but it could lead to casualties; their gains were already significant, so it was unnecessary.

As Edgar and his teammates retreated the way they came, Owen Bertram and the National Master each made a polite gesture to each other. They both appeared broad-minded, while secretly guarding against surprise attacks and repeatedly being extra cautious, before entering the Ancient Annihilation Domain together.

As soon as he entered, Owen Bertram immediately felt a sense of resentment in the void of the Dragon Water Palace. With his deep knowledge, he could accurately grasp the meaning behind that sentiment; it was not "complaining" or "blaming" but more like "lingering resentment". To put it somewhat imprecisely, it resembled the feeling of a wronged young wife.
