Chapter 1113: Chapter 529: The Second Route_1

The Baker Refinement City had transformed into a dangerous Ancient Annihilation Domain, filled with the bizarre. All that remained were countless magical instruments, with no trace of the artificers from the past.

After a while, Santa managed to regain his composure, and pointed to the bubble on the Nine-Dragon Refining Sky Furnace and said, "Come closer and take a look."

Owen Bertram and the others stepped forward, looking carefully into the bubble. They couldn’t help but laugh when they saw a ginseng baby-like thing lying lazily in the Three-leg and ged Two-eared Tripod.

This little fellow had not completely lost its resemblance to a ginseng, with a half-human-half-root appearance. However, compared to a ginseng, its whole body was in a state that was neither gold, nor jade, nor stone, yet simultaneously seeming to be all three. It was laying comfortably, with its two little arms acting as a pillow for its head, sleeping soundly.

"Is this the Southern Treasure Root?"

Santa nodded: "The Old Husband needs the Southern Treasure Root. You need the Nether Extreme Dazzling Soul Treasure Light. Two unrelated treasures have come together - it seems this little creature has a spirit and moved here itself, finding a new home. This Nine-Dragon Refining Sky Furnace is indeed very beneficial for it."

During his speech, the predecessor extended a finger. The tip of his finger was spreading with the power of Spirit Fire, about to break the bubble and capture this little thing: "This object suits the Old Husband’s attributes, and will be of great benefit after acquisition."

Owen Bertram always felt that the predecessor was not telling the truth. This Southern Treasure Root, and the so-called "Four Extremes of Eastern Land" must be extraordinary. But Owen Bertram also knew that he would not get anything if he pursued, for Santa would not tell the truth.

Santa’s contribution to the killing of the Divine Lightning Python was indeed great. Owen Bertram kept his promise and would not compete with him for this treasure.

The power of the real fire touched the bubble, something incredible happened: even though it appeared fragile and ready to pop with a mere touch, the bubble instead emitted the ripples and effortlessly blocked Santa’s Spirit Fire!

"Hm?" Santa uttered in surprise and continuously increased the power of the Spirit Fire. But he had a feeling of foreboding: fellas, I have the feeling that you might be scheming against me again!

The power of Santa’s Spirit Fire was unable to pop the bubble. In anger, the predecessor raised the Fire Staff and a Tire-8 Pure Fire condensed into a fire spike and was sent crashing through.

The ripples on the bubble became more dense, but it remained intact!

"It annoys me so much!" Santa was furious. From the moment of entering the Ancient Annihilation Domain in Baker Refinement City, encounters with the gatekeepers, lightning python, iron door, and now this bubble... I don’t know how you treat strangers, but when it comes to old friends, you’re really effective!

Santa roared in fury once again, releasing all three Tire-8 Pure Fire from the Fire Staff at once, all of which converged into a single fire needle. The bubble swayed back and forth as the waves of ripples continuously spread splashwords, and the Southern Treasure Root within was awakened. The little creature got up from the Nine-Dragon Refining Sky Furnace and with its perfectly round obsidian-like eyes, glanced outside in fear.

Then, it seemed to understand that the brutal fellow outside couldn’t get in, so it cheerfully made faces at Santa from within the Nine-Dragon Refining Sky Furnace!

Santa was so enraged that smoke seemed to be shooting out from his nostrils. Owen Bertram quietly said to Nick Liam, "I am certain that this creature must have passed through that town before hiding inside. It learned to behave badly from those damn kids!"

Santa put all his efforts into stabbing the bubble with the fire spike, which caused the bubble to sway. Layer upon layer of ripples followed - suddenly, symbols and patterns similar to the ones on the iron door appeared!

"Damn it..." Santa was on the verge of cursing out loud. But upon reflection, everything made sense. How would the artificers of Baker Refinery City ensure that their descendants would acquire these treasures after the great calamity? Naturally, they would rely on these puzzles they loved so much.

Santa turned to Owen Bertram and said, "It’s all up to you now."

This was the third time that he asked for help from his junior, but Santa did it quite smoothly. It was all so familiar to him.

Owen Bertram did not refuse; he was eager to see what was so special about this Southern Treasure Root. Mr. Owen asked Santa to translate the parts of the puzzle he could not understand, and he began to work alone.

This time, Santa and the others had great faith in Owen Bertram. Time flew by and more than a shichen (2 hours) had passed, but Santa still noticed something was wrong. He was pacing back and forth anxiously behind Owen Bertram, clearly becoming impatient yet not daring to rush him. He feared that doing so might disrupt Owen Bertram’s train of thought.

In the first half of the shichen, Owen Bertram was working rapidly with ease. However, he gradually became slower, furrowing his brow. In the last half shichen, he looked more distressed... He didn’t want to admit it, but he might not be able to solve this problem.

If the puzzle on the iron door was at high school level, then this puzzle on the bubble was on a graduate level! These two simply couldn’t be compared.

But how could he explain this to Santa? Would Santa believe his explanation?

Owen Bertram racked his brains and attempted the puzzle one last time. Then he weakly raised his head and looked at Santa despairingly, "Predecessor...." Santa heaved a long sigh and said, "You can’t solve it?"

Owen Bertram silently nodded. For a moment, Santa was at a loss, a multitude of thoughts crossed his mind. He had indeed suspected if Owen Bertram was doing this deliberately in order to snatch the Southern Treasure Root from him.

But he quickly cast aside these baseless suspicions, waved his hands and said, "It’s not your fault... It’s the Old Husband’s lack of fortune..." Santa was indeed thinking this way. This separate consciousness of his had awoken ahead of time and was making preparations for the complete resurrection of his main body.
