Chapter 1068: Chapter 517: The Secret of Artifact Demons_2

"Run! The second strike is coming..."

The few surviving cultivators, regardless of anything, fled from the gap in the city wall. The moment they left the city wall, the strange sound disappeared. The Crossbow Demon did not pursue. Franklin found an angle from which he could see the entrance to the gap from outside the city wall.

The Crossbow Demon pushed piles of broken bricks out of the hole, resealing it!

Even the well-traveled Franklin was dumbstruck. He immediately reported back to Tamsin Macy, "Your Excellency, it appears the Demon Beings of this world are these magical instruments. They possess intelligence and seem to strictly abide by their respective, uh... duties. Like this crossbow, it was likely once one of the city’s defensive tools, so it still guards this section of the wall tenaciously. Those who attempt to cross the city wall will be attacked!"

Having encountered the Artifact Demons twice, it was quite impressive that Franklin managed to analyze this much. However, Owen Bertram was able to see even deeper, wondering what the true foundation of these Artifact Demons was? And why regular magical instruments are banned in this area while they can operate freely as Demon Beings?

Thinking of those faint glows, Owen had a few guesses in mind. Unfortunately, Tamsin Macy was right beside him; otherwise, he could summon the Ice and Snow Divine Sword to immediately test his theory.

Owen couldn’t summon the Ice and Snow Divine Sword, but he had other means. He stared at the corpses lying at the gap in the city wall. Each cultivator had a magical instrument on their person.

At least eight of them, faced with the Crossbow Demon’s crescent-shaped blades, had drawn their swords to block in desperation. The final results were obviously not pleasant: their sword-wielding magical instruments were shattered, and they were cut in half.

After looking around, Tamsin Macy now had several options: one, to fly directly over the city wall, avoiding the Crossbow Demon. Two, to follow the wall and search in both directions for a way through. Three, to dispatch powerful individuals to demolish the Crossbow Demon directly.

Without hesitation, Tamsin Macy chose the third option: "Franklin, take action!"

"At your command, Your Excellency!"

Tamsin Macy wanted to capture this Crossbow Demon and study it thoroughly to get a better understanding of the Ancient Annihilation Domain. Moreover, she was full of anticipation regarding any gains they might make by killing the Crossbow Demon.

Franklin alone climbed up to the gap in the city wall, while his subordinates below watched nervously. Only Owen Bertram’s gaze remained fixed on the corpses at the gap.

Franklin was experienced and only paused briefly after entering the gap to draw the Crossbow Demon’s attack. Then he immediately used a Divine Skill to fly up and conceal his entire presence before arriving at the entrance of the hole. At the same time, a layer of dark green light spread from one arm, transforming into a massive claw of a demon beast—this was the "Mysterious Lion Claw" from the Lion Elephant Technique. He was confident that a single strike would kill a Tire-5 Demon Beast on the spot.

However, there was no movement from the concealed hole. Suddenly, there was a grinding sound from the other side of the gap in the city wall, and Aaron Chalon and the others below cried out in alarm, "Watch out behind you, sir!"

Franklin turned back and swiped!

Behind him several dozen feet away, on the other side of the gap, the Crossbow Demon emerged from another ambush hole, shooting out dozens of crescent-shaped beams of light right at him!

Whizz, whizz, whizz—

Bang!

The crescent-shaped blades whirled around, and Franklin’s swipe collapsed the wall above the ambush hole, but he couldn’t be sure he had destroyed that Crossbow Demon. In this damned Ancient Annihilation Domain, a unique power permeated the air, not only banning magical instruments but also severely limiting a strong cultivator’s range of perception.

Again and again, Franklin snapped his head to both sides, anticipating the Crossbow Demon suddenly emerging from some hidden hole. But below, Owen Bertram’s gaze remained on the corpses at the bottom of the gap.

The heads of the sword-drawing cultivators had now begun to emit faint magical glows. But at that moment, everyone else was looking up with raised heads at Franklin in the sky.

Moreover, the ground below the gap was not flat, with many enormous bricks and rocks obstructing much of their view.

Franklin’s ears twitched, and he turned preemptively in a certain direction. Sure enough, a grinding sound echoed, and a third ambush hole appeared. Just as the Crossbow Demon emerged, a massive demon beast’s claw swooped down from the air and, with a rumble, flattened it in its grasp!

Franklin heaved a sigh of relief, but just as he did, another Crossbow Demon emerged from the ambush hole!

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—

Crescents of light shot into the air, catching Franklin off guard; he was hit several times in quick succession. Having cultivated a powerful solid Divine Skill, a faint gold hue appeared on his skin, as though it were hard metal—this was the "Golden Elephant Body" from the Lion Elephant Technique! Each time the blades hit, a spark flew, and his golden hue faded somewhat.

Franklin retreated continuously, finally letting out an angry roar. The demon beast’s claw struck a second time, shattering both the ambush hole and the second Crossbow Demon in one motion.

Aaron Chalon and the others shouted cheers, and Franklin, too, breathed a sigh of relief. However, at that exact moment, broken swords and knives sprang up from the ground, each a Tier-4 Magical Artifact.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The golden hue on Franklin’s body had completely faded away, and he couldn’t fend off these newly born Artifact Demons, which sank deeply into his body one after another.

Owen Bertram sighed to himself, believing this was more than enough evidence to support his conjecture.

"Marshal!" Aaron Chalon, and others cried out in horror. However, these Tier-4 Magical Artifacts should not be able to inflict any fatal damage even if they hit him.
