Chapter 1013: Chapter 502: The Secret of the Strange Artifact_2
To her surprise, these cultivators were very cooperative, dutifully lining up to receive their waist tokens. The waist token also served as a magical instrument, used to confirm their identities and act as a constraint. Should anyone flee the battlefield, a ring of radiance would be immediately emitted by the token, bisecting them at the waist.
Owen Bertram had the Water Spirit seal East Immortal Lake once more. If any cultivators were to emerge, it would happen in the following days. Those who did not emerge within these days would never be able to come out again.
The Chaotic Demon and Bat Taoist rushed to offer treasures before Owen Bertram, trying to curry favor with him. Owen took their treasures without having looked at them when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Preston Barnett sneak away.
With a wave of his hand, Bertram’s spirit power enveloped Barnett, pulling him over.
Preston struggled and shouted, "Leave me alone! Ken, Ken, help me..." Just as Ken was about to speak, Owen cut him off saying, "If you dare utter a word, you can forget about even a single egg from the Bloodstain Mosquito.
Ken immediately abandoned Preston, covering his mouth with his hands.
With a heavy press of his finger, Owen made Preston feel the weight of a massive force on his body, causing him to kneel at once. Owen, discontentedly, said, "We may be collaborators, but you owe me an explanation for the exotic poison from outer space you received this time. Are you trying to abscond with my exotic poison?"
Preston’s face became ashen. He was, truthfully, disconcerted and embarrassed. The research into the toxins from the Red Barbarians had come to a standstill.
"After this time, there should be a breakthrough," he said, though he sounded rather uncertain. Owen scoffed coldly and said, "I’ve heard that the ocean is home to many poisons far more lethal than those found on land. If you don’t show any progress, I’ll have you sent off on a ship with the hunting team to the Red Clan Barbarian Continent!"
"Really?" Preston’s eyes lit up.
Owen shook his head in disbelief. Preston had completely missed the threat in Owen’s words, appearing genuinely interested in the ocean’s poisonous creatures.
With a flick of Owen’s wrist, Preston was sent flying. "Be gone, and come back with results as soon as possible," he said.
Rolling on the ground before standing up, Preston muttered, "When they first brought me here, they tried all sorts of tricks, but at least they still treated me with respect. Now they’re constantly barking orders. Men truly don’t know how to appreciate what they have..."
With a smile on his face, Ken stepped forward. True to his word, Owen gave Ken half of the Bloodstain Mosquito Eggs. Elated, Ken left together with Preston.
Owen returned the Mesmerizing Demon back to its Master, retrieving the Boundary Flower and Chaotic Demon. Only then did he have the time to examine his gains from this excursion.
The reason he had brought out the Bloodstain Mosquito Eggs was because these magical bugs had a unique trait; different colonies would feel each other’s presence. He wasn’t sure if there were other colonies remaining in the Country of Mourning, but if there were, and they hatched, he would be alerted in advance.
Moreover, the bugs nurtured using the Bloodstain Mosquito would possess truly unique abilities. Owen even speculated that the solution to the strange poison from the Red Barbarians might ultimately fall onto the Bloodstain Mosquito.
He kept half the eggs mainly because he was eager to raise a batch of magical bugs himself and compete with Ken.
He selected a gourd from among the seven and took out Mario. He then arranged a "bug nest" inside the gourd, placed the batch of magical bugs from Ken, and the Bloodstain Mosquito Eggs, inside it.
Having done all this, Bertram waved his hand and cast various prohibitions, sealing off the section of void around him before releasing the "Micro-count Skill".
The dark golden radiance seemed like a living creature, rhythmically expanding and contracting. Each contraction would send out hidden symbols, each spinning and operating according to some profound rule before being reabsorbed by the radiance.
Owen observed the radiance, but unlike the Chaotic Demon, his consciousness was not lured into a self-eradicating abyss.
The Micro-count Skill attempted to "seduce" Owen, but all it got was a small smile. "Don’t bother wasting your energy. I’m not one to be swayed by charlatans," he said.
He raised his stone cone and pointed towards the Micro-count Skill. "Demon! Show your true form at once, or I will scatter your soul to the winds!" he threatened.
The Micro-count Skill did not react, continuing to regularly expand and contract. Owen scoffed coldly. "Do you think your reputation will prevent me from destroying you?" he challenged.
Without any hesitation, he thrust the stone cone towards it. In an instant, the cone had reached the radiance and penetrated it to the depth of a knuckle!
The Micro-count Skill shrank abruptly, with all the symbols flying back into it. The radiance shrank from the size of a wooden tub to the size of a fist.
The radiance retreated in fear, making a few abortive attempts to escape, only to crash into Owen’s seal each time. It seemed genuinely frightened as a string of symbols came flying out of the light, forming a sentence:
You are really wantonly destroying everything!
Owen casually replied, "Give me a reason to spare you, or else I will destroy you."
As he said this, the stone cone pointed towards the radiance yet again.
The Micro-count Skill sent out another series of symbols, producing another sentence: I can help you calculate the mysteries of the cosmos, and predict the future.
"Nonsense!" Owen jabbed his cone towards it.
The Micro-count Skill panicked: Wait a minute! Wait a minute! I can help you unconditionally. I can fully exert my abilities, and I can calculate 50% of the mysteries of the future.
"Not interested." The cone moved in for another stab.
