Chapter 157: Trust

How she was to face someone she had been so intimate with the night before was beyond Leonor’s understanding.

She woke up earlier than normal considering she fell asleep earlier than normal.

The last thing she recalled was Desmond gently taking care of her. It seemed that with the feelings he elicited from her, her energy went away as the tension was released. It was a feeling she was unfamiliar with but something she would like to continue exploring in the future.

As she slowly stirred, she realized she wasn’t wearing anything at all and the blankets were up to her chest. Desmond’s shirtless body lay behind her and there wasn’t a bit of material separating them down to her backside that pressed against the soft material of his pants, though something harder resided further below.

However, that wasn’t the most surprising thing she realized as she came to.

She used Desmond’s right shoulder as a pillow and his left arm was around her waist. His arm bent and his hand cupped her breast. His thumb nestled between both of them and she could tell they must have been that way for a long time.

Considering their proximity, she knew he would wake up the moment she made a drastic movement and she wasn’t sure how to face him quite yet.

Her nightgown was soiled from the night before and her robe was discarded elsewhere in the room.

She could run to the bathroom and take a bath but she needed a maid to help her with the water regardless. Either way, there wasn’t a way to hide from Desmond. He would see her no matter what.

She felt so vulnerable.

Desmond knew her better than anyone else on Earth. He knew what she liked and didn’t like. The faces and noises she made were completely out of her control but within his. Even her body at that moment was vulnerable to his touch, for the longer he held onto her, the more she felt a certain stirring from before.

How was she to face Quinn that day when she was having such dirty thoughts about her husband?

"What are you thinking so hard about that would make you stop breathing?" Desmond asked groggily.

He leaned into her and buried his nose in her neck. Her hair tickled his face and he could smell her all around him. It turned him on to no end but he decided he ought to behave. He had work to attend to just as Leonor had to attend to their guest.

Leonor let go of the breath she was holding, only realizing then that she had stopped breathing at all.

"I was thinking of how your hand on such a sensitive place makes it hard to think at all, actually," she corrected him, though she turned her face towards his shoulder so she wouldn’t have to face him with a blushing face.

She could feel him smiling into her neck and she wanted to elbow him but she would have to give him a view of her breasts in practically broad daylight to do so.

Desmond gave her soft mound a gentle squeeze before he let her go. He stood up and went towards the couch where their fun began the night before.

"I ought to grab your robe for you," he said. "I wouldn’t want the lady to have to expose herself in front of someone with such impure thoughts."

They spoke sarcastically to one another and in those moments Leonor thought of conversations with Valerio and how she could never win against him either. His voice wasn’t the same but his mind mostly was.

Instead of giving him a response, she rolled over, buried her face in the bed, and pulled the blankets over her completely.

She heard a chuckle escape Desmond as he returned to the bed and placed the robe on the blankets.

Leonor felt where the robe was placed and she only revealed her arm to retrieve it.

From underneath the blankets, she put the robe over her body and tightened the belt around herself so it wouldn’t have a chance of opening up.

She could finally free herself of the blankets and she pulled them off of her with an unamused expression on her face. As she fixed her hair, she cast a glance at Desmond.

There was something about his mood that made her feel like he was pleased with himself and she didn’t want to know what he was thinking. She was quickly finding out that men were simple creatures who were easy to satisfy.

She found little disadvantage to that situation considering she got just as much pleasure as Desmond did.

"I ought to bathe," Leonor broke the silence as she escaped the bed, holding her robe over her body even though it was still perfectly tied closed.

Despite her efforts to escape him, she found herself cornered before she could make it into the bathroom. His eye peered down at her and there was a hint of a smile on his lips.

"Desmond..." she uttered his name with a bit of a warning tone to it.

"I don’t know how I’m supposed to go about my day knowing what you look like underneath this," he whispered breathlessly as if he were in some sort of dream.

Leonor’s face felt hot. First for his words and then because he was shirtless.

He placed his hands on her upper arms and leaned his forehead into her shoulder. He began saying something else that surprised her.

"And because you haven’t been disgusted with me," his whispering continued.

His words spoke directly to her heart. It seemed they were always similar when it came to things like that. They were both strangely insecure and rigid with their boundaries. Yet if it came to trusting someone else, they could trust each other.

Even though it felt intimidating, she let go of the robe and wrapped her arms around his back, giving him a loose hug as he leaned into her.

"Thank you for trusting me with yourself even though it isn’t easy," she responded quietly. "As much as it hurts that you didn’t before, I am making peace with your reasoning."

Desmond’s hands left her arms and went to her waist. He told her he would make it up to her and he would try every single day.

"Now we must stop touching each other or I’m going to get energetic again," he uttered and Leonor immediately placed her hands on his chest to push him away.

"I have a guest to attend to," she stated quickly.

"Kiss me so I can retrieve a maid for your bath," he said.

She genuinely debated it for a moment, but she could tell he was feeling a bit too energetic already.

"I will never kiss you again if-"

He cut her off.

"I’ll get the maid," he responded, already walking away so he could retrieve his shirt and go into the hallway.

Leonor watched him with crossed arms and a faint smile.

She had a feeling the night before was something they couldn’t go back from. That thought alone was as terrifying as it was exciting.
