My Dear Duke(BL) -
Chapter 68: Fever
Chapter 68: Fever
Felix didn’t know what the count’s purpose was to suddenly confess all this.
Maybe he was telling this because he couldn’t let this secret die with him? Or was it because he wanted to mess with Felix before he died?
Either way, this had a good side and a bad side. While he was now shaken by this truth,
On one hand, he was glad he got to know the truth. Though it’s shocking and unexpected.
Couldn’t he have gotten worse news? Isn’t it at least good that he knows Anne is actually related to him and not a total stranger?
’I should talk to Anne...’
Felix was feeling weak all over. He was too tired to even think about a further step because he get frustrated about the ways things could go wrong. As much as he wanted to solve and get past this problem, he wasn’t made to be that active in hard times.
As usual, due to his stress, he got severely sick. It began with a slight fever then slowly proceeded to get worse even with the care of Asher.
Asher was overwhelmed with everything. The truth, the duke’s pitiful look, now he is sick like this...
Asher was glad the duke talked with him and sought help. It meant the duke was trusting him, right?
It made Asher quite flattered and as he took care of the duke, he felt like this one conversation made him feel very different about the duke.
The duke still had the fever and Asher realised the fever wasn’t reducing. He couldn’t risk anything so he decided to inform sir Bill and get some help.
But it’s night and he was all alone there.
He would inform sir Bill first thing in the morning.
Asher was also feeling sleepy. But he kept his eyes open because the duke would frown and move from time to time, groaning. Asher was feeling really sympathetic toward the duke seeing him weak like this.
This man...how come he is so helpless and pitiful?
Asher gently rubbed the sleeping duke’s hair and stared at his face, in a daze.
’I hope everything will be alright. For both you and Miss Anne.’
Asher had a feeling this truth is going to somehow get in the way of Miss Anne’s and the duke’s relationship, in a bad way. The duke might always think about that incident everytime he sees Miss Anne.
The duke was indeed weak inside. He could feel it from the way he thinks and behaves through this.
Only if he could see things from a positive angle since things have come this far...then, maybe, things might be different.
It’s very insensitive to even think about asking the duke to ’get over it’ so he could at least protect what he has now. But, until the duke changes his mind and overcomes his fears, nothing might turn out better.
It’s all in the duke’s hand.
And it feels wrong because the duke was the victim but also has to make things right if he wants to have his life sorted out. It’s a lot of things to handle.
In the middle of thinking, Asher somehow fell asleep. His head resting on the bed, but still sitting on the ground right in front of the duke’s face. He was not going to sleep but guess she was too tired to stay awake the whole night.
So, when Felix opened his eyes in the morning, he came face to face with Asher’s sleeping face.
It’s such a good feeling to know someone took care of him. He couldn’t even remember when someone else other than Lucas talked to him like Asher did.
Hugging and comforting...
"Thank you."
Felix mumbled but Asher was sound asleep. Felix slowly got up and shook his head a little as he felt a sharp pain in his head.
The headaches were so bad that Felix almost laid back. But he got himself together to take a bath and freshen up.
Maybe taking a bath could make him feel better?
After crying, his face felt weird.
He was still in his heavy clothings, so he must have sweat too.
He felt the strong urge to take a bath so he got off the bed from the other side, wishing he wouldn’t wake Asher up who seemed to be sleeping well.
Asher was still sitting on the ground and Felix paused, wondering if it was okay to leave him like that.
He thought Asher would definitely cherish his sleep rather than getting disturbed to climb onto the bed.
’Should I place him on the bed? He is tired because of me.’
Felix in the end, decided to gently put his arms around Asher, then pick him up to place him on the bed. Felix watched Asher turn around in the soft mattress to find a comfortable position and then fall back into deep sleep.
He let out a sigh and went to the bathroom, taking a bath early in the morning.
And, it was the most refreshing thing ever.
Or so he thought until it got a little too cold and he started to shiver.
Despite that, Felix felt better after the bath. The thought of having cleaned himself made him comfortable. It’s only comfortable for his mind not for the body though.
Because he was having a fever all that time.
And, after the bath, things only got worse...
....
"Are you dumb or what?! Idiot! Do you want to die?"
Asher stood behind sir Lucas in silence. How come sir Lucas was so scary? The duke, who laid on the bed, his eyes slightly opened, silently listened to all his yelling.
How did things become this serious?
When Asher woke up again, he found the duke laying next to him. And, on the bed.
Asher clearly remembered he slept on the floor not on the bed. So, why was he on the bed now? Did the duke pull him to the bed?
Asher smiled with that thought and stared at the duke gratefully. but soon, he noticed the duke looked off.
His fever had gotten worse.
Asher got so panicked and he was at a loss what to do before finally recalling what he planned to do last night.
Asher immediately went to see Bill who had arrived by that time and explained the duke had a high fever and needed the assistance of a physician.
Soon after, Asher watched him send a carriage to pick up sir Lucas who then arrived there and woke Felix up to lecture him for a long time when Felix confessed he took a bath early in the morning while already having the fever.
Why did he even let the water touch him? Did he not realise it’s cold? Asher was in shock because when he had fevers before, touching water was a big no. It was extremely cold to even just pat on some water. Sometimes, even hot water didn’t please Asher much.
The duke was amazing. Or should he say foolish?
Asher stared at the duke who was getting scolded by sir Lucas, then finally going back to sleep after swallowing some pills given by him.
Hopefully, he will get better soon.
Asher wished and quite relaxed but was suddenly startled when sir Lucas turned to him and asked him to follow him outside. Asher looked at the duke who seemed to have fallen asleep and let out a sigh in relief before leaving the room to see sir Lucas waiting outside.
"Did something happen?"
Asher hesitated as sir Lucas asked in a firm tone, seemingly confident something had happened.
Asher wondered if he should tell him what happened. Even though sir Lucas was a trustworthy person for the duke and might have always been informed about the things happening in his life, Asher didn’t know if he should say it because he was supposed to keep things to himself.
"A lot of things happened. But sir Lucas should ask it from the duke."
Asher said nervously. Surprisingly, sir Lucas didn’t push him more.
"I see.. I have more work so I am leaving. Send me a message again when he wakes up."
That’s all he said before leaving. Asher didn’t know why he was so nervous to talk with him when he always found sir Lucas to be pleasant and friendly.
Because every time he saw him before, he was always smiling.
And the first time Asher met him, it was a pleasant talk.
But, that day he saw sir Lucas angry.
He was scary when he was angry.
He must have gotten really worried to the point he ended up yelling at the duke like that. Seeing the duke silently listening too, maybe this might not be unfamiliar between them...
’Sigh...they are really close. Of course, they will, after everything they went through together. It’s all...horrible.’
Asher thought to himself before entering into the bedroom again to look after the duke.
’What could Miss Anne be doing now?’
