Chapter 63: Felix’s Past; The Baby
While living with Felix, Lucas got close to him and found out a lot of things about Felix. His weird monthly sickness, now these traumatic events following him...
Lucas felt sorry for him. He felt Felix’s life was harder than his.
Maybe, he had done something bad in a previous life, now that he was getting his karma this way...
Lucas did his best to stand by Felix’s side and help him to get through and push himself out of the depressed state.
He brought Felix to go around the town to explore. But Felix never was excited about going outside. It was even more sickening after all of this. Just one accidental touch, he would jump scare. It was becoming a big problem.
No matter what Lucas did, Felix didn’t seem excited. He looked lifeless. Maybe he always spent his life like this and can’t find these things exciting as he does? Lucas was also getting exhausted worrying about him at that point. However, then he realised instead of pushing him, he should let Felix take his time to overcome everything. And it was the best option.
Everything changes with time.
So did Felix eventually.
After around a year, he wasn’t always thinking about what bad things happened to him but how to continue his life or improve himself again. It was what Lucas wanted. Even though it’s not the fast recovery he wished for, seeing Felix up again, it made Lucas feel a sense of relief and pride.
To make things special, Lucas announced to him his plans about going to learn medicine. It would not be easy. But Lucas promised he would do the hard work for his best and find a cure to help Felix to get rid of this obstacle.
Felix, at first, tried to protest because from the way Lucas said it, it felt like he was planning to study medicine just for the sake of him. He didn’t want Lucas to do such a thing for him. However, after commenting about his worries, Lucas reassured him that it was not like that but he wished to find himself to be useful for others too, but especially for Felix.
After that, Felix said he would help Lucas financially.
Felix was the rich young master so he could easily help Lucas pay for his studies as nothing comes free.
Lucas disagreed with that and tried to refuse the offer. But, Felix and he then came to the agreement it would be a loan and nobody was doing anything for anyone. That way, nobody would own anything. So, they wouldn’t be a burden to the other.
After Lucas went to the medical academy, Felix was lonely again. As he was left alone again, he often thought about what happened and hurt himself mentally and physically again.
Especially the fact that he always felt tired whenever he thought about how he wanted revenge.
He didn’t want that revenge anymore which made him really disappointed.
It was a cowardly move but he didn’t want to engage with them in the least.
He wanted them away from him.
He didn’t want to bother and spend his time on disgusting people.
That applied to his trauma too.
He wanted to forget that. Everything...
He wanted to forget everything so he came up with this new way to reassure himself.
Everything was over...
It would never follow him.
He delusioned nothing this sort would be in his way ever again.
Day by day, his life would get better.
This was the only way for him to escape it because, like Lucas once suggested, he didn’t have any good memories to suppress the bad memories. He didn’t have anything to describe happiness. He had never felt that feeling for more than a minute ever. Because he had lived his life in this mansion, feeling trapped and hopeless.
However, letting go of the past didn’t mean he was actually going to let go of everything. Once when he was feeling brave, He wrote a letter reporting the illegal business happening in the dark forest. He sent the letter to the royal palace which surprisingly actually made the palace take action.
But it was all useless. Because they found nothing sort of as he mentioned.
It was an empty house with few thieves living there illegally without any permission. The counts must have taken action the moment when Felix and Lucas escaped.
After that, Felix didn’t go to chase after.
He didn’t want to try too hard because he knew he wouldn’t be able to endure too much pressure.
He chose to be selfish again, letting go of it.
At least he did the minimum.
He was done with that.
However, to his surprise, after the royal palace took action and allegedly reported what they found there in the newspapers, one of the counts came to visit Felix.
Before anything else, he apologised for the horrible things they had done and said they regretted their choices. He said they stopped their business and asked to give them a chance to start a new life and not expose them. They were so arrogant back then that they didn’t even hide their faces since they never thought Felix would be back like this.
But Felix wondered why they didn’t try to silence him by kidnapping him again since it wouldn’t be that hard after all.
Whatever...
Felix did not respond and just asked him to leave. It was a horrible feeling to see him again. He didn’t know why he had to come and see him again to prove it was actually them that hurt him. The count did not protest but left, maybe seeing his words ’touched’ the stupid teen’s heart.
After that meeting, Felix got sick again and Lucas came to take care of him where he told him everything. Lucas had also wanted to report the crime but now they don’t know anything since everything had just changed.
At the same time, neither Lucas nor Felix wanted to chase them down and punish them. Both of them wanted to be away from them. They chose silence even though both of them knew this might actually not end and their own choices might be a selfish act.
But...
They couldn’t be the heroes to save every other child when they themselves had their own problems to deal with.
It was very exhausting.
So...just being away and trying to recover from the past was the best option for both of them.
That’s what they did and it was also what eventually made them feel better as time passed.
But...it didn’t end there.
The chaos strikes again.
But it wasn’t that bad.
It was a blessing that Felix didn’t recognise at first, and also a big challenge for young Felix who was just around his 14s.
That day, he woke up to a baby crying and the maids hesitantly waking him up to inform what had occurred.
There was a baby left on their door. Whoever left the baby had jumped out of the mansion walls or gates, then placed the baby in front of their door, then ran away.
Before looking or searching for anything from the baby, Felix immediately summoned a physician since he was worried the baby might have left in front of the door for a long time. What idiot would leave a child like this? It was cold and windy.
The baby was a newborn. Maybe born on that same day. However, the baby was cleaned properly, doing fine.
After confirming the baby was fine, Felix had to ask Mary, who was a young maid at that time who looked after Felix from his childhood and still to that moment, try to take care of it while he figured out who this baby was.
Mary happily came forward and held the baby, singing and trying to console after feeding the crying baby.
It was quite chaotic that a baby suddenly appeared in the mansion. However, the maids were quite excited to hold the baby. Felix didn’t say anything and let them take care of the baby while he took it upon himself to find out about this baby’s identity.
It wasn’t that hard.
There was a letter in the bag the baby was placed in.
Felix was shaking as he read it again and again and again for a long time.
It was a letter from someone he didn’t know but someone who knew his mother.
The handwriting written with trembling hands was really ugly. But the words were still clear.
"Since your mother bragged her son is rich, then you raise her daughter too. I can’t do it because I am poor. Ah! and, she died giving birth to this thing. She is dead. So raise this thing as her last memory."
That was all it said. As he read, it felt like it was written by someone ignorant but as he read it more he felt the perspective was more like writing with resentment.
He didn’t know if someone was playing a cruel prank on him. It’s been almost 5 years since his mother ran away. So she had another kid recently? And died giving birth to the baby?
As hard as it was to believe, Felix was surprisingly feeling a warm feeling about the baby.
The ugly silent mansion was filled with ear hurting cries. But...it was better than the silence where he heard whispers.
Whether this letter was true or not, he was going to accept this baby now. There was no way he was going to abandon what stood in front of his door.
He would welcome this baby into his family.
Still, as days passed, he was convinced by his father’s secretary to see if they were actually related. Even though Felix was naive and fell for the little baby, experienced and thoughtful grown up couldn’t let Felix fall for a trap that might cause trouble for him later.
If it’s actually just as the letter, then it’s fine. But if this baby was not related to him even by little, then it meant someone wanted their child to grow up in a luxurious environment and then, maybe take advantage of the situations that might occur in the future.
It was a tricky situation. He couldn’t let Felix’s quick decision ruin his life later.
With his pressure, Felix went to the magic tower to meet a magician with the little baby and see if they were related.
And, they were related as their blood matched with each other. So, it confirmed the truth that she was indeed related to him and the letter was true.
So, his mother was alive all this time and gave birth to this little baby, then died? And, she told that person about him? If not, how would that person who Felix guessed to be a man, the father of this child, know about his whereabouts?
Despite all the questions left unsolved, now he was ready to accept this responsibility.
He declared this baby as his sister. Even though she was basically a half sister, he didn’t take that into consideration and gave her the last name of his family line. It was not a big deal anyway.
He named the little baby Anne. It was actually Mary’s suggestion to which Felix agreed.
So, she was Anne Griffin.
Felix’s beloved little sister.
The newest hope Felix was excited to live for...
