Chapter 29 - Shinomiya Kaguya
Chapter 29: Shinomiya Kaguya
The girl’s long hair cascaded over her shoulders, not at all messy, her cheeks bearing a cool expression. Dressed in Caihai Academy’s uniform, she looked refined and petite. She had an unapproachable air, but her deep red, gem-like eyes brimmed with confidence. “Alright, everyone, quiet down.” Nangong Nayue placed her lecture notes on the desk, clapping her hands. The noisy classroom fell silent instantly. All eyes turned curiously to the unfamiliar girl. “Let me introduce her. This is our new classmate, starting today. I hope you’ll get along well.” “Ohhhhhhhhhh—!” Except for Luo Yun, the boys in the class erupted in excited shouts. Teenage hormones were in full swing—practically any female could spark their wildest fantasies. Even if they had no chance, a beauty of this calibre was a feast for the eyes. In contrast, the girls shot disdainful looks at their male classmates. A bunch of animals! Had they never seen a woman before?! “Quiet down, you brats!” Nayue’s face darkened, and she flung chalk at the loudest culprits. Silence returned. After speaking, Nayue nodded to the girl. “Introduce yourself.” At her words, the coolness on the girl’s face vanished instantly, replaced by a sunny smile. She held her schoolbag with both hands and gave a slight bow to the class. “Minasan, I’m Shinomiya Kaguya. I hope we can get along well.” The uniformed girl bowed elegantly. With that, she picked up a piece of chalk and wrote “Shinomiya Kaguya” in four Chinese characters on the blackboard. The class buzzed with discussion. “Who’s Shinomiya Kaguya? She feels kinda familiar.” “That surname sounds like I’ve heard it somewhere.” “No way! Shinomiya Kaguya… Could she be from that mega conglomerate on the mainland?!” “What’s going on?!” “It’s gotta be real. The Shinomiya president’s always on the news, and his eyes are the exact same colour as Shinomiya Kaguya’s!” “So, she’s the Shinomiya family’s heiress!” “Didn’t expect her to be so cute. Whoever marries her would never worry about money for a hundred lifetimes—enough to build a house out of cash!” The Shinomiya name carried far more weight than “transfer student.” Whether you watched the news or not, everyone knew the Shinomiya Conglomerate. After all, products bearing the Shinomiya Conglomerate’s emblem were in every household, from toilet paper to heavy military equipment. Luo Yun was stunned. Did that talk from the other day actually come true? Why would the daughter of a massive conglomerate attend a school like this? Didn’t Genkami Island have girls’ schools? “Hey, why would a super heiress come to our school?” Lan Yu Asagi turned around, lightly poking Luo Yun with her finger. “I only found out today.” Luo Yun shook his head. “Shinomiya-san, are you really the daughter of the Shinomiya Conglomerate?” A classmate asked. “Yes, since my family is involved in building the Azure Paradise, I’ll be studying here for a while.” Shinomiya Kaguya nodded slightly, her voice soft like a breeze rustling through bamboo. “I don’t get the lives of rich people.” Lan Yu Asagi muttered to Luo Yun. She was a rich kid herself, but compared to the Shinomiya family, she was small fry. “Me neither.” Luo Yun sighed helplessly. If he had to guess, maybe she was tired of the aristocratic education at a girls’ school and wanted to experience commoner life. With Shinomiya Kaguya’s knowledge, she could probably get into Tokyo University already. “Now… for seating…” Nayue scanned the nearly full classroom desks, suddenly at a loss. Yesterday, the school called, asking her to take Shinomiya Kaguya into her class. Nayue was reluctant at first. She’d dealt with plenty of big conglomerates—those rich folks were nothing but trouble. But the principal begged and pleaded, practically on his knees, so Nangong Nayue grudgingly accepted the tough job. As a national demon hunter and head instructor of the security team, her status should be enough to handle the Shinomiya heiress, while also keeping her safe in class. “No worries, Teacher Nangong. I’ll sit in the back row.” Shinomiya Kaguya smiled faintly. “Fine.” Nangong Nayue nodded. Since she said so, it saved Nayue the hassle. And it happened to be right behind Luo Yun’s seat. “Luo Yun, look after the new student.” Nayue’s eyes carried a warning. “Thank you.” After a graceful thank-you, Shinomiya Kaguya picked up her bag and stepped down from the podium. Bathed in gazes of admiration and envy, as she passed Luo Yun, Shinomiya Kaguya smiled slowly: “Please take care of me from now on.” Her deep red eyes gazed at the boy. …
