Chapter 202: She’s Too Good at Acting Cute (Grand Finale)

Chapter 202: Chapter 202: She Really Knows How to Act Cute (Grand Finale)

His marriage leave was only for three days; he has to return to his unit tomorrow.

In the morning, he went for a walk with Fu Ying.

Looking back, from secretly admiring her at the age of 16 during the second semester of his first year in high school, to starting a romantic relationship at 18, getting married at 20, and holding their wedding at 22, they seldom strolled together because they simply didn’t have the time.

He was very busy, spending most of his time in the military unit.

Before, Fu Ying never felt any issue and even understood his work commitments, being considerate enough not to disturb him during his working hours.

But now...

Thinking about how he has to go back to his unit right after the wedding ceremony ends, she couldn’t help feeling a bit sentimental.

In the December weather, they walked past many vistas, and he took her through the corners of the city he used to frequent.

The area where he went to elementary school had long become an abandoned old town district. The houses were dilapidated, and amidst the cold wind, one could hear the windows creaking.

He carefully led Fu Ying through an alley barely one meter wide, their hands tightly clasped. Considering her pregnancy, the man walked very slowly.

It seemed as though no one lived here anymore. The wind blew through the empty spaces, making it feel lonely and desolate.

"That’s where I used to live, but then it caught fire."

He stopped, pointed at an apartment building. Too many years had passed; its exterior wall was blackened, the climbing plants withered and yellow, with just a few fallen leaves and dried vines.

Fu Ying quietly took his hand, this small gesture offering immense comfort to Shen Liguang.

He took her to where he went to middle school. Time had progressed quickly, and the area had become much busier than during his school days.

The little shop at the entrance of the school was still there, but it had a new owner and the interior appeared much cleaner and tidier than before.

Fu Ying held a plum candy in her hand and looked at Shen Liguang: "Bro, brother... I want some..."

Maybe it was due to the pregnancy, but Fu Ying sometimes got cravings.

Gradually, she developed a taste for sour things.

"Like it?"

Fu Ying nodded.

Shen Liguang bought her the whole box of candy.

When they stepped out of the shop, Fu Ying was eager to tear open the candy wrapper when someone familiar called out to him.

"Little Liguang?"

The nickname "Little Liguang" was really rather unique.

Fu Ying couldn’t help but raise her eyes to look at the man—who had graying temples and was showing his age.

Shen Liguang called him Uncle Wu.

Uncle Wu smiled kindly and looked at Fu Ying: "This must be your new bride, right?"

Shen Liguang’s hand tightened on hers, he nodded: "Yes, my wife, Fu Ying."

"I heard from Xiao Wu. I wonder when he will get married. He’s over twenty already and has never brought a girlfriend home."

"He should be getting that sorted soon."

Hearing this, Uncle Wu laughed: "Is that so? I believe what you say."

After some more small talk and exchanging pleasantries, they left.

Fu Ying asked him: "Is Xiao Wu the Wu Xiaowu from your unit?"

Shen Liguang turned his head and looked down: "What do you think? You’re his ex-girlfriend, don’t you know?"

"That wasn’t really me who dated him online."

Shen Liguang laughed: "I don’t know who dated him online, but I do know that he really liked you when you met."

Fu Ying whispered back: "That was my brother."

"It’s clear it wasn’t you." Shen Liguang glanced at her. "You are just the right fit."

Fu Ying blushed.

They walked and paused, not feeling tired, and before they knew it, they had arrived at her old high school.

Thinking of that delivery guy, Fu Ying took Shen Liguang toward the collection point.

As they entered, a few courier staff were busy receiving parcels, but that guy was nowhere to be seen.

"Looking for someone?"

Fu Ying nodded: "Yes, he’s not here."

"Oh, you’re looking for Brother Song? He quit. What do you need from him? He left a coat here; he should come back for it. If you’ve got a message, I can pass it on."

"That would be great," said Fu Ying, pulling out a plum candy from the box in her arms and placing it on the counter, "please tell him that this is his wedding candy from me."

Fu Ying grabbed another handful and handed it over: "This is for you guys."

The person smiled taking it: "Wedding candy?"

Fu Ying nodded.

"Then this guy must be your fiancé?"

Fu Ying smiled shyly: "We just got married."

When they left, Shen Liguang asked her: "You know them?"

Fu Ying curled her eyes into a smile: "All the love poems I wrote to you were sent from here."

Shen Liguang murmured with a smile: "Then this place is a witness too."

Before they knew it, it was almost noon, and he drove to a restaurant he frequented.

He was well-acquainted with the owner, who was very enthusiastic, constantly chatting with Shen Liguang as soon as they walked in.

Then, the owner turned his attention to Fu Ying, laughing: "Before, you always brought your male superiors; this is the first time you’ve brought a girl here."

"My wife."

The owner was surprised and assessed Fu Ying, then smiled: "Then, this meal is on me, don’t be polite with me. As a regular customer and friend, please accept this meal as a little gesture from me."

"Thank you, boss."

"No need for thanks, but next time you come, it won’t be free."

Shen Liguang nodded: "Okay."

The owner was overjoyed and scampered off to the back kitchen.

It was too cold, and not many people were in the restaurant.

Fu Ying sat across from him, sitting upright, while steaming tea wafted from their cups in the middle of the table.

Fu Ying looked at him, and as she watched, her face flushed with shyness, smiling with pursed lips.

"What are you laughing about?" Seeing her laugh, Shen Liguang couldn’t help but join in, "What are you thinking?"

"Nothing, just feeling that everything is worth it."

Shen Liguang: "I’m lucky to have you."

...

Unnoticed, it had turned dark; in winter, it was nearly dark by six.

They strolled by the river, hand in hand, surrounded by people bustling by.

Lights twinkled across the river’s surface, and the wind that blew across it was a bit cooler.

He said: "Actually, I still want to take you to other places for a walk."

Fu Ying’s eyes reflected the light as she buried her face in her scarf, leaning gently on his shoulder, whispering softly: "It’s okay, we have a lifetime."

"I feel like I met you too late." His voice carried a note of regret.

"In the next life, I’ll come earlier," paused Fu Ying, "and be part of your youth."

"Then I’ll pursue you."

His tone was tender, as if gently unraveling a long and flowing stream.

With my faint glow
