Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Friends Who Lead You Astray
Seeing Li Xiaoli laugh so happily, Liu Mengting also smiled and said, "Xiaoli, last night you had a fever and took off your pajamas, but I didn’t notice, so when Tang Ming came to check on you in the morning, I just pulled the covers off."
"Really?"
Li Xiaoli had been feverish and confused last night, not remembering much, and now that Liu Mengting mentioned it, she suddenly blushed and became anxious.
"Of course not."
Liu Mengting laughed as she saw Li Xiaoli’s embarrassed and anxious expression.
"Hmph, Meng Meng sister, you’re teasing me even though I’m sick."
Li Xiaoli pouted and complained cutely.
"Haha, who made you embarrass me?"
After laughing, Liu Mengting headed towards the bathroom.
In the study of the Chen Family villa, a stern-looking man in his forties sharply gazed at Chen Cang.
"You little brat, you go to Tianjiao High School and stir up so much trouble, got beaten up, and ended up in the hospital, you’re really losing face for me, Chen Fazhong."
Chen Fazhong pointed at Chen Cang angrily and continued, "And what’s the deal with those two boys from the Ma Family? Did you incite them to go after someone, only for them to end up severely injured?"
"Dad, Ma Gangqiang and his group had their own grudge with Tang Ming, it had nothing to do with me," Chen Cang said, trembling.
"It had nothing to do with you?"
Chen Fazhong exclaimed angrily, "Do you know that if you weren’t my son, Chen Fazhong, you would have been killed by the Ma Family by now? From now on, behave yourself and avoid any dealings with those Martial Arts Families."
"Understood, Dad."
Chen Cang nodded profusely.
"Get out."
Chen Fazhong bellowed unceremoniously, and Chen Cang quickly left the room. Facing his father, he was utterly terrified, but the more he felt this way, the more he enjoyed causing trouble.
Leaving the villa, Chen Cang got into his Volkswagen. Though he had a sports car, he couldn’t use it because his father, Chen Fazhong, had taken the keys away due to recent troubles, so he had to use the Volkswagen for commuting.
He quietly drove the car out of the villa and onto the highway. Only then did Chen Cang truly breathe a sigh of relief and pulled out his cell phone to call his friends.
"Hey, is Monkey there?"
Chen Cang asked loudly using his Apple iPhone.
"Brother Cang, we’re at the Hong Kong Pavilion eating. Have you eaten yet? If not, come over quickly," Monkey replied eagerly with a laugh over the phone.
"I’m actually a bit hungry, order some food and wait for me."
Chen Cang hung up the phone and then immediately sped up to eighty or ninety mph heading to Hong Kong Pavilion, running red lights along the way without any fear, as his family was wealthy enough to handle any minor traffic issues, as long as no accidents occurred.
Hong Kong Pavilion is a restaurant that specializes in Hong Kong cuisine, known for its unique and clean flavors, attracting many young people from Songlan, and it’s also quite bustling with business.
Chen Cang was a regular there; after parking his car at the entrance, he headed straight into the private room.
At that time, Monkey and two other guys were there, one named Chen Jianwen, and the other Xiao Guobing; both were key members among Chen Cang’s gang of friends, including Monkey, who acted as their half-baked strategist. All three were children from wealthy families in Songlan City who usually had no interest in academics and behaved recklessly. Under Chen Cang’s leadership, they effectively assumed the air of rich, second-generation spoiled brats.
Of course, the Chen Family was one of the four major business families in Songlan, far surpassing the modest families of these three.
"Brother Cang, all kinds of Cantonese dim sum are prepared for you, still steaming hot. Hurry up and eat it while it’s hot."
Monkey was a thin man with a hairstyle very much in the Korean and Japanese style, and he wore earrings that made him look quite handsome.
"Yeah, I didn’t realize I was hungry until you mentioned it. My dad gave me a long lecture this morning, which lasted over two hours. My legs were numb from standing so long, and luckily he let me go just a while ago, otherwise I might have had to stand all day."
Chen Cang complained slowly while picking up dim sum with his chopsticks and sipping on fine tea.
The others could only smile faintly, careful not to overdo it, lest Chen Cang think they were mocking him and take offence.
"Brother Cang, have you continued pursuing Liu Xiaohua lately? It seems like you’ve backed off a bit?"
Monkey asked casually while eating.
Mentioning Liu Mengting, Chen Cang was filled with frustration. Things were going well until a pesky kid named Tang Ming came out of nowhere, making it impossible for Chen Cang to get close to Liu Mengting. Fortunately, it seemed like Tang Ming was just a relative of Liu Mengting’s, and other than walking to and from school together, there didn’t seem to be any other relationship between them.
This gave Chen Cang renewed hope.
"There’s some poor country boy by her side, apparently her relative, and he knows some martial arts; even the brothers from the Ma Family aren’t a match for him."
While eating a soup dumpling, Chen Cang said, "But after all, that kid is just a poor relative. As long as I don’t provoke him, he wouldn’t dare provoke me. That’s why, when you brought this up, I thought about finding an opportunity to ask Liu Meng out."
"That’s right, ask Liu Xiaohua out. We’ll help you set the mood, Brother Cang, and then you can boldly confess to her."
Monkey laughed: "Girls are shy, just create the right atmosphere, Brother Cang, and you might just win her over."
"Confess?"
Chen Cang frowned, "Rashly confessing seems unwise. You all know what temper Liu Mengting has. She might just turn her back on me, and I would lose even the chance to ask her out."
"Ah, Brother Cang, in my opinion, today’s girls just crave enjoyment; otherwise, why would so many of them be kept by others!"
At that moment, Xiao Guobing, a buzz-cut guy, chimed in.
"Enjoyment? Are you joking, Guobing? Don’t you know the background of Liu Mengting’s family? What don’t they have at home that she would crave enjoyment?"
Monkey scoffed dismissively.
"Brother Monkey, you misunderstood me. I’m not talking about material enjoyment. I’m referring to girls like Xiaohua who actually enjoy the process of being pursued. The more you chase them, the more they feel valued and attractive. Have you seen the school beauties? They neither reject suitors outright, nor do they accept them; what do you think is their reason? It’s none other than enjoying a treatment that ordinary girls do not have."
Xiao Guobing analyzed earnestly.
"Right."
Chen Cang slapped his thigh, "Guobing makes sense, how come I never noticed that before?"
"Brother Cang, that’s called being too close to the matter,"
Xiao Guobing reminded him.
"Exactly, so what do you guys think about me confessing now?"
Chen Cang thought for a moment then turned to the other three and asked.
