Chapter 68 - 0068: Whose Technology is Better
Chapter 68: Chapter 0068: Whose Technology is Better
"Grandma, they often show on TV now, you really shouldn’t just help people out on such a secluded road. If you’re not careful, you could get scammed, and then it’s several years of bad luck. What do you think?"
Tang Ming squatted on the ground, looking like he was planning to chat with the old lady for quite a while.
A flicker of annoyance appeared on the old lady’s face. She had been waiting in this alley for a long time hoping to trap a naive passerby, but she didn’t expect this stranger not only to speak so worldly but to also act like an old Jianghu master.
"Young man, at my old age, do you have the heart to just watch me lying here, freezing and catching a cold?"
The old lady started pleading, her tears almost spilling over.
An actor, huh?
Tang Ming’s face lit up with amusement. He listened carefully to the surroundings. There seemed to be others nearby, their breathing quick and not just one or two, as long as he touched this old lady.
These well-prepared people would definitely spring out to scam him as soon as he did, and then he’d really be unable to explain himself clearly. With one word from them, you could not counter their ten: If it wasn’t you who bumped her, why would you go to help?
"Forget it, I won’t compete with you, I’ll go the other way."
Tang Ming shouted loudly toward the alley in front of him and then turned around, planning to go back the way he came, which alarmed the old lady lying on the ground.
Just then, a young girl ran over from ahead, glared at Tang Ming, then bent down to help the old lady, asking with concern, "Grandma, are you all right?"
"Ouch!"
The old lady didn’t get up; instead, she clutched at the girl with both hands, screaming, "She hit me, she’s going to kill me, your grandma!"
Tang Ming happened to see this scene and burst out laughing, "You all are family, let’s see who can outbite whom."
At this sound, several burly men and a woman in her forties came running from the side paths nearby. These people approached with a dubious tone, questioning, "What kind of person is this? You knocked the poor granny into such a state."
The thief girl’s face turned red with anger, but her hands were tightly grasped by the old lady, and she was unable to break free. She explained loudly, "It has nothing to do with me, I came to help the old lady."
"You, girl, you hit me, why won’t you admit it?"
The old lady on the ground, refusing to stand up, clutched the girl and cried out, "Luckily, I grabbed you and wouldn’t let go, oh, you have nearly broken all my old bones."
"Old lady, when did I hit you? I ran over to help you when I heard your voice. Don’t wrong me."
The girl was almost in tears from being wronged.
The old lady, however, said decisively, "It was you, girl, who hit me. Luckily, I caught you, oh."
Tang Ming, watching from a distance, found the whole scene hilarious. A thief encountered a scammer—it’s just like a monk’s bald head, no hope at all!
"You’ve got to testify for me, you saw it with your own eyes, it wasn’t me who hit her, right?"
The girl, desperate, turned to Tang Ming and asked.
"That’s worth considering, but could you return the thing you smoothly took from me earlier?"
Tang Ming folded his arms, enjoying the scene.
"Fine, I’ll return it to you."
The girl couldn’t get away from the old lady, and now she was so anxious that she broke out in a sweat, feeling so aggrieved she wanted to cry.
"Hey, even thieves have no mental strength, what kind of thief are you!" Tang Ming thought with a laugh.
The old granny started screaming, "Ouch, I am in so much pain, my bones are about to break, somebody help, this person hit me and now he’s trying to escape."
With a loud shout, people around quickly gathered and started pointing at the young girl.
"Hey, why did you hit someone and then try to run away? Luckily, you were caught. Look at her age, were you supposed to hit her? Can’t you watch where you’re going?"
"Exactly, now you still want to run, I think everyone should keep an eye on her, don’t let her escape, otherwise who will the grandma ask for medical fees?"
"I say saving people is more important, let this girl pay up first, then a few of us can help send her to the hospital, what do you think?"
"Right, saving people is important."
The crowd kept chattering excitingly, leaving the young girl sweating profusely and totally flustered.
In the past, I had only heard about these kind of scammers, but only encountering them now did I realize how dreadful they are. They stand on a moral high ground to manipulate you, making you not only pay money but also damaging your reputation, no wonder nowadays many people are afraid to help others on the street, it really is terrifying.
When Tang Ming saw that these people had bullied the female thief just enough, he couldn’t let these scam artists succeed, right? After all, the money in the thief’s pockets was his. So, he walked over and spoke up, "Alright, this has nothing to do with her."
"Who are you? What do you know?"
A man in his thirties immediately called out discontentedly.
Tang Ming smiled and said, "It has nothing to do with this girl, let her go and get on with your business."
"Hey, you hit someone, and you think you have the right to say that?"
Another woman in her forties with dark skin yelled loudly.
Tang Ming smiled, took out his phone, unlocked the screen, and said, "I have evidence right here; I’ve recorded everything. Do you guys really want to make a scene? If you really want to cause trouble, we can call the police and make a scene at the police station. I think if all of you go, it will definitely be lively."
Suddenly, the crowd started looking at each other, and after a moment, the old lady, assisted by a woman, left, and the others also walked away dejectedly. Many glared bitterly at Tang Ming as they left, clearly thinking that if not for his interference, this young girl would have been swindled out of a substantial amount of money.
"A thief encountering another thief, quite a spectacle."
Tang Ming walked up to the young girl and, with an open hand, said, "The money?"
"The money..." The girl, regaining her cunning, bit her lip and then quickly tossed her hand, "Here’s the money."
As soon as she finished speaking, Tang Ming was once again "bamboozled." The girl slipped away right under his eyes. The only difference this time was that Tang Ming had a smile on his face and extended his hands from behind his back, revealing three wallets and a clutch of hundred-yuan notes in his hand.
Half of these hundred-yuan notes were his, while the rest, along with the three wallets, had been smoothly picked from the girl. As for the original owners of these items, no need to think too hard to know that they were the unlucky ducks who got their belongings swiped by the girl.
"Hehe, running into a thief isn’t too bad, got to earn a bit extra."
Tang Ming laughed heartily and then turned to leave the alley.
The girl quickly ran toward another street. She could escape so swiftly from under people’s noses due to her speed and deep familiarity with the area’s terrain, which allowed her to cleverly use the environment to shake off her pursuers.
"Hehe, such a big dummy, I’m a thief who never leaves empty-handed, why on earth would I return what I’ve taken?"
The girl, wearing a smile on her face, reached into her pocket, but her expression suddenly changed. After fumbling around, she realized there was nothing left in her pocket—not even the few tens of yuan from her breakfast money!
