Chapter 209: Chapter 0209: You are just a bodyguard
"Holy crap, I almost didn’t recognize him with that human facade."
Tang Ming scornfully mocked, causing Su Xiaoxi to nearly burst into laughter. Tang Ming really had a talent for choking people with his words.
Sun Zhuangjia approached the two, smiling, as he looked at Tang Ming and the pile of food in front of him, full of contempt in his heart.
Ever since the auction, he had people investigate Tang Ming, only to find out that this guy was nothing more than a bodyguard hired by the Liu Family. He hadn’t achieved anything significant. At first, he thought Tang Ming was from some distinguished family, but now knowing he was such an item only increased his disdain.
"Hey, so much food—your friend here sure can eat, Xiaoxi."
Sun Zhuangjia began to provoke without reason.
Su Xiaoxi rolled her eyes at Sun Zhuangjia, irritatedly retorted, "Is it any of your business?"
Sun Zhuangjia didn’t take offense at all, simply because he had grown accustomed to Su Xiaoxi speaking to him like this far too many times.
Tang Ming, seeing that Sun Zhuangjia wasn’t the least bit embarrassed, curled his lip and added fuel to the fire, "That skin is really something else, truly no oddity in this wide world!"
"Pfft..."
Su Xiaoxi laughed out loud again; Tang Ming had turned a perfectly normal phrase into something else entirely.
Sun Zhuangjia frowned at Tang Ming, looking at him as if he were looking at a pitiable bug, but he wasn’t angry at all! Just a bodyguard, and here he was, having considered him a rival before—what a joke, it was an insult to his own status!
"Xiaoxi, there are many swindlers in society; you must be careful not to get cheated one day."
Sun Zhuangjia hinted meaningfully and even glanced at Tang Ming after he spoke.
"Whether I get cheated or not, is it any of your business? Go away and cool off somewhere else."
Su Xiaoxi did not mince her words as she coldly retorted, "I’m so smart and wise, do I need a reminder from you? Are you nuts?"
Sun Zhuangjia was so irritated his eyebrows began to fight with each other, and just at that moment, one of his friends was looking for him with a glass of wine in hand. Seeing them from afar, he immediately walked over.
"Miss Su is here too."
A twenty-something pretty boy approached, greeting Su Xiaoxi as soon as he saw her.
"Qin Kong, I was just reminding Xiaoxi not to be fooled by certain people."
Sun Zhuangjia gave the pretty boy a wink.
The young man named Qin Kong immediately understood and glanced at Tang Ming standing beside Su Xiaoxi. He bluntly asked, "Zhuangjia, is that the one you mentioned who’s with Miss Su?"
"What’s with this ’that one’ and ’this one’?"
Su Xiaoxi was livid, thinking to herself that maybe Sun Zhuangjia had noticed something. Feeling irritable inside, she yelled at Sun Zhuangjia and his friend, "If you’ve got nothing better to do, go chat somewhere else and don’t bother us here."
"Miss Su, isn’t he the shield you’ve hired?"
Qin Kong said teasingly.
Sun Zhuangjia also secretly sneered, ready to expose Su Xiaoxi’s ruse on the spot and see how she’d get out of this one. The key was to make this kid Tang Ming back off and stop being a nuisance here.
"What shield? He’s my boyfriend, his name is Tang Ming."
Su Xiaoxi immediately retorted upon hearing this.
"Come on, Xiaoxi, just stop pretending. Tang Ming isn’t really your boyfriend, he’s a fake, right?"
Sun Zhuangjia sneered at Tang Ming, "I’ve had people investigate already. Tang Ming is simply a bodyguard from the Liu Family. Saying he’s your boyfriend is a complete nonsense."
While Tang Ming continued to eat the food on his plate without wasting a bite, he ignored Sun Zhuangjia’s incessant chatter. In his view, physically fighting someone was a sign of respect; completely ignoring them was the real way to show disdain.
"A bodyguard, huh."
Qin Kong sneered, adding fuel to the fire, "My family has been looking to hire bodyguards recently, with a yearly salary of a million. If Miss Su’s friend is interested, I can recommend him to my family. We’ll make sure he’s well-fed and well-cared for."
Tang Ming remained silent. Su Xiaoxi, however, trembled with anger and defiantly pointed to the necklace around her neck, "This was a gift from Tang Ming. If he’s not my boyfriend, why would he give me such an expensive gift? Sun Zhuangjia, you were there too. It’s all on record at the auction—costing over ten million! You really think he cares about your million-dollar salary? How laughable!"
Under the table, Su Xiaoxi kicked Tang Ming’s foot and then, lowering her voice, leaned in and said, "My throat is about to go up in smoke here, and you haven’t even farted a word. You’re just eating, do you really not plan to help me?"
By this time, Tang Ming had almost finished his food. He wiped his mouth with a napkin, patted his hands, stood up, and then, putting an arm around Su Xiaoxi’s shoulder, declared, "I’m officially telling you two idiots that I am indeed Su Xiaoxi’s boyfriend, no doubt about it."
"Ha ha, dude, can you stop joking already?"
Sun Zhuangjia burst into laughter.
Qin Kong commanded in a stern voice, "Presumptuous for a mere bodyguard! Let me tell you, this is an upscale party, not just anyone can attend. If you don’t want to embarrass yourself, you’d better stop pretending to be a big shot here."
However, Tang Ming was no saint, and whenever he encountered someone putting on airs in front of him, he typically responded by throwing punches.
But this guy was lucky, because not only had Liu Gaoze invited him to the party today, he also had to consider the young ladies present. Starting a fight and potentially ruining the event didn’t seem like a good idea.
While Sun Zhuangjia and Qin Kong were making a fuss with Tang Ming, two other young men in their twenties, both acquaintances of Sun, approached the scene and immediately grasped what was going on.
Bullying wasn’t just common among ordinary folk; it was also typical within the ranks of martial artists. Aristocratic sons ganging up on common martial artists was all too ordinary, and the newcomers, seeing the unfamiliar face of Tang Ming, started getting rowdy.
After all, they were young and influenced by the remnants of old-school gangster films, always looking for trouble.
"Brother Sun, what’s this guy’s deal?" one of the newcomers inquired.
Sun Zhuangjia replied with feigned laughter, "He’s just a bodyguard, playing a shield for Xiaoxi. I told him to leave, but he refuses, insisting on sticking around at the party."
Upon hearing this, the newcomer’s face flushed with anger and he barked at Tang Ming, "This place doesn’t welcome bodyguards, get out now."
Tang Ming simply smiled without moving, while Su Xiaoxi, tugging at his arm, said, "Let’s go, ignore them."
"Just a little bodyguard and you don’t even ask who I am. Be smart and leave immediately, and let’s forget today’s incident, otherwise, you’ll probably be carried out later."
The young man continued to taunt.
Tang Ming stopped in his tracks, feigning fear with a smile, "Oh, you’re really scaring me. But there’s no need to introduce yourself, I don’t care who you are. And as for whether I leave or not, that’s not for you to decide."
