Chapter 102: Chapter 0102: Dad Xia Gets Hit
The mother and daughter hurriedly got into the car, and Wang Dayong turned the vehicle around, heading straight back.
"Dayong, what exactly happened? Is it Wei’er’s dad..."
Wei’er’s mom didn’t dare to continue, as tears began to well up in her eyes.
"No, it’s your family’s house. The demolition company’s people forcibly demolished it, and we couldn’t stop them. Everyone was afraid to intervene..."
Wang Dayong said anxiously.
"Ah! My dad is still at home!"
Xia Wei’er exclaimed in shock.
When Wang Dayong heard this, he too was startled and quickly sped up. Soon the motorcycle arrived at Wei’er’s doorstep, where the nearby neighbors had already stopped the excavator, but the house was clearly gone, leaving only rubble in its wake.
"Wenjun!"
After getting out of the car, Wei’er’s mom ran to the rubble and began to shout loudly, her tears flowing instantly.
Xia Wei’er also ran over crying, hugging her mother’s waist and shouting, "My dad is still underneath, have you brought him out?"
"Your dad was inside?"
Scar Face approached, the small-time leader of the demolition company, who had been taught a lesson by Tang Ming. Thinking of negotiating that evening, he had arrived early in the shantytown, only to encounter such an incident.
"Brother Scar Face, we shouted for a long time and no one answered. We thought the house was empty, so we demolished it," said an underling who ran over, the one who had been directing the demolition.
"Dad, I need to find my dad."
Xia Wei’er ran into the rubble, where many half-collapsed walls were still standing. Guided by memory, she found the bedroom where her father had been, which was now utterly unrecognizable, but suddenly, she saw a hand protruding from under the dirt.
"Dad!"
Xia Wei’er ran over, trying to dig her father out, but at that moment, a section of the nearby wall suddenly collapsed, and a brick struck her arm.
The young girl, unaccustomed to such pain, immediately crouched down unable to stand, but still cried out:
"My dad is there, save him, dig him out."
Wei’er’s mom also rushed over, starting to move the bricks and wood with her hands, attempting to dig her man out from the wrecks, but how strong could she possibly be? After turning over a few pieces of wood, she completely ran out of energy.
"Wuu wuu... please, I’m begging you."
Xia Wei’er, holding her injured arm, pleaded with those around her.
Wei’er’s mom was also crying helplessly; the person buried below surely had slim chances. These people wouldn’t help, one reason being the danger—after all, Xia Wei’er had already been hit once. Furthermore, there were things like electrical wires inside the house that could be hazardous, possibly electrocuting someone. And with the large structure having collapsed, there was very little hope for someone inside to survive. These people were also afraid to offend the demolition company and bring trouble upon themselves.
Seeing that no one dared to move, Scar Face laughed coldly and said:
"If the person was crushed to death, it’s his own bad luck. But this is an accident; we’ll still pay compensation. I still advise everyone not to do anything foolish. The development of the shantytown is inevitable, and no one can stop it. If any of you are willing to cooperate with our work, ready to move out immediately, we can sign an agreement, get it done quickly, and everyone can get paid. Don’t end up like their family, forcibly demolished, and it’s not worth it if somebody gets killed."
The moment those words were spoken, everyone around was terrified. They had heard that the demolition company’s people were bad, but now they had truly witnessed what ’bad’ meant—it didn’t matter to them that someone had been killed; they were lawless. But what could the ordinary folks do against such lawless bullies?
No one dared to speak up. Just yesterday, the Xia Family was well and intact, and now they were separated by life and death. Moreover, their two-story house had been demolished in an instant, showing no fear of the law. This shocked the nearby residents tremendously.
After having eaten their fill, Tang Ming and Pudge strolled around the shanty area. They had eaten so much that they needed to walk around to digest.
While they were walking, Pudge suddenly saw a crowd of onlookers ahead, and there was also heavy machinery like excavators. His curiosity ignited, he insisted on going over to see what was happening. Tang Ming, indifferent, followed him.
Pushing through the crowd, Tang Ming saw Xia Wei’er and her mother crying and searching through the rubble, heedless of the danger as they turned over the bricks and stones with their bare hands, their faces streaked with tears.
"Is this their house? It really got burned down?"
Tang Ming exclaimed in surprise.
Pudge said anxiously, "Brother Ming, it wasn’t burned down, it was demolished by those damn excavators. Those damn demolition companies are inhuman."
"Let’s go take a look."
Tang Ming pushed through the crowd and walked directly into the ruins.
Upon reaching Xia Wei’er’s side, Tang Ming asked, "It’s too dangerous in the rubble. What are you digging for?"
When Xia Wei’er looked up and saw it was Tang Ming, she sobbed, "My dad’s buried underneath, I have to dig him out."
A wave of compassion swept over Tang Ming, and he pointed to the nearby excavator, "This is too slow. There’s an excavator over there. You can use that thing to quickly turn all this over and find your dad."
Xia Wei’er immediately glared at Tang Ming with anger. It was that very excavator that had destroyed her home. Besides, such a large machine could crush a person to death. She said irritably, "Are you crazy? An excavator for digging people out? That’s not digging; that’s outright killing."
Wei’er’s mother also saw Tang Ming and Pudge entering the ruins and heard Tang Ming’s words. She felt a bit angry but still said, "The excavator belongs to the demolition company. Even if we ask for their help, they wouldn’t help us."
After thinking it over, Tang Ming said, "That’s enough, rescuing people is urgent. I’ll go borrow the excavator."
"Brother Ming, I’ll go too."
Pudge quickly shouted.
Tang Ming turned his head and said, "Just stay here and watch over them. I’ll go by myself."
Tang Ming approached the excavator. The thug operating it was casually smoking, looking completely at ease, evidently finding satisfaction in bullying others.
Tang Ming stepped up and said directly, "I need to borrow this machine for a while."
"Who the fuck are you?"
The excavator operator, a thug quick to anger, clearly didn’t care about the people from the shanty areas. Seeing Tang Ming, a student-looking fellow, come up directly made him very unhappy, and he cursed outright.
"Get the hell out of the way."
Tang Ming suddenly made his move, grabbed the other guy’s collar, and then forcefully threw him outward. The guy was flung out, landing "thump" on the ground, hurting his backside badly.
Tang Ming hopped into the driver’s seat, quickly started the excavator, and after some roaring noise, he began operating the digger, searching through the ruins. Seeing Tang Ming operating the excavator, Xia Wei’er was terrified; one wrong move from the machine could easily crush her father to death.
