My Co-renting Lady Boss -
Chapter 100: Does He Like Me?
Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Does He Like Me?
Scar Face clutched his abdomen, tears from the pain streaming down his face, as he looked at Tang Ming with a vicious threat, "Damn, you’ve got guts, but do you know who I am? I’m one of Brother Huo’s men."
"Brother Huo’s men?"
Tang Ming approached with a puzzled expression, walking over to Scar Face.
Scar Face thought his boss’s name had intimidated Tang Ming, and he said with a smirk, "Brother Huo sent us out on a job, and you dare cause trouble? Aren’t you afraid Brother Huo will come after you?"
"I’ll give you a fire in the face."
All of a sudden, Tang Ming’s demeanor changed, and he kicked Scar Face’s face brutally several times, causing him to roll on the ground in agony, screaming relentlessly.
Scar Face, not one to take a loss lying down, signaled to his lackeys to help him up and only after retreating to a safe distance did he shout back at Tang Ming, "Damn it, will you dare to come to the shantytown tonight?"
"So what if I don’t go?"
Tang Ming feinted a charge at Scar Face, causing him to run off a few steps more in a most pathetic fashion.
"If you don’t come, my boss will torch your woman’s house. You’d better take care of it."
Scar Face dropped the threat and took off.
At that, Tang Ming laughed, "Oh, so that’s why he’s called Brother Huo. He’s a firestarter, huh? No skill there at all."
Scar Face was so angry he turned pale, but unable to speak a word.
However, he couldn’t just ignore Xia Wei’er’s safety, so Tang Ming asked, "What time are the negotiations tonight?"
"Eight o’clock. You know the consequences if you don’t show up."
After saying that, Scar Face signaled his lackeys to take him away.
"Oh."
Tang Ming casually reminded them,
"Tell your Brother Huo it’s best he wears armor when he shows up, otherwise he won’t be returning once he sees me."
Standing at the entrance of the cold drinks store, Xia Wei’er was a bit dazed. She hadn’t expected Tang Ming to agree to negotiate with that thuggish group, and her feelings suddenly grew complex.
Was he really going to meddle in such a troublesome matter? This clearly had nothing to do with Tang Ming. If you talk about those thugs causing trouble before, they were just showing off, staging a scene to get her attention. But this time, it wasn’t an act.
The demolition company was real, the developers were real, and those thugs were certainly real. But what was Tang Ming up to? Was he really going to help her?
And no matter how tough he was, could he be as formidable as those real gangsters? The group that came to collect protection money earlier were just petty street hooligans. But this Brother Huo was different; he was a gangster with a gun, the head of the demolition company. Ordinary residents hearing the name Brother Huo would be so frightened they’d pee themselves and move out quickly.
Because this Brother Huo was too ruthless; just concerning the demolitions alone, he’d caused several fatal incidents in Songlan, and they all went unresolved. After all, he had a horde of underlings taking the fall for him, and it wasn’t him who acted directly, so the police were helpless against him.
"Does Tang Ming really like me? Otherwise, why would he do so much for me?"
Xia Wei’er looked at Tang Ming, her mind swirling with thoughts.
At that moment, Xia Wei’er’s mother came out and saw the troublemakers had gone; she breathed a sigh of relief and with gratitude she said to Tang Ming, "Young man, thank you so much. But you really mustn’t go to negotiate with them tonight; it’s too dangerous. They are all gangsters with guns."
Tang Ming replied with an insouciant smile,
"No worries, I have nothing to do tonight anyway. Might as well go for a stroll."
What Tang Ming was actually thinking was that he’d put on a grand performance of being poisoned in front of Chen Cang, and if he returned too early, the act would be up. Besides, Chen Cang had suffered a huge loss because of him, his hand was rotting to the bone, and if Tang Ming didn’t make the performance convincing, it wouldn’t do justice to his injured hand! Better let him savor the moment for a while.
"Fatty, all clear now?"
Tang Ming said to Zhou Dafu, the meaning was clear, we should leave now.
At this moment, Xia Wei’er remembered that Tang Ming had intervened today on her behalf, she quickly ran over, looked at Tang Ming, and said with some difficulty, "Thank you for today... Actually, you didn’t have to do that, I... I really want to focus on my studies now, I don’t want to think about other things... At least during high school, I won’t think about..."
After saying this, Xia Wei’er’s face turned bright red—how could she start talking about this? Did that imply to Tang Ming that maybe in college it would be possible? But the words were already out and there was no taking them back.
Tang Ming was even more astonished and didn’t know how to respond.
"But it really is too dangerous at night, it’s better if you don’t go."
After Xia Wei’er finished speaking, her head was so low that she couldn’t raise it.
"If I don’t go, they are going to burn down your house."
Tang Ming was somewhat puzzled.
"Actually, I know they have long wanted to make an example out of someone. All these legal provisions about demolition were found by me. They definitely want to start with me. But the neighbors trust me a lot, I can’t let them down, I have to help them with this."
Although Xia Wei’er was worried about others burning her home, she was still courageous enough to confront the evil forces.
"You really have a good heart."
Tang Ming looked at Xia Wei’er with new respect, "But don’t worry, if I’m not confident, I won’t do it. I’ll go have a look tonight, and while I’m at it, I’ll see if that Brother Huo has any value. Can’t let the trip be for nothing."
Xia Wei’er knew she couldn’t stop Tang Ming, she looked up to see that he and the fat guy had already turned and left. She could only sigh and hope that he wouldn’t act recklessly tonight.
After walking for a while, the fat guy glanced at Tang Ming and asked, "Brother Ming, you don’t really like Xia Wei’er, do you?"
"What, are you jealous, kid? Wasn’t it you who asked me to help?" Tang Ming joked.
"No, I know I don’t stand a chance; Xia Wei’er is so beautiful and kind, I’m so fat and worthless, there’s no reason for her to like me. But if Brother Ming you can win her over, I’d be really happy, as long as you don’t let Ma Gangqiang get to her first."
The fat guy spoke slowly.
"Then why the long face?"
Tang Ming was puzzled to see the fat guy’s worried expression and asked.
"Brother Ming, I’m worried about your negotiation tonight," the fat guy advised, "Didn’t you hear what Xia Wei’er’s mom said? Those people are the real mafia, armed with guns and knives. If you go alone, you could be in great danger."
"Cut it out, does Ma Gangjian not have guns and knives? He still ended up being sorted out by me," Tang Ming said dismissively.
"But they have more people, the Ma brothers are only two."
The fat guy argued.
"Right, they have more people, and more people means more loot. Brother Huo has so many underlings, he must be loaded."
Tang Ming was delighted, thinking of a brilliant plan, he rubbed his hands together and said, "This time I’ll strike it rich. The money from last time is almost spent, and Uncle Liu is just a penny-pinching pseudo-tycoon. If I don’t figure out a way to make some money, my cultivation will suffer."
Hearing Tang Ming’s words, Zhou Dafu scratched his head in silence, wondering when Brother Ming started sounding more like a highway robber.
After school in the afternoon, Tang Ming didn’t go back to the villa with Liu Mengting and the others. After watching them get into the driver’s car, he and the fat guy took a cab to the shanty town.
