Chapter 1649: Chapter 1647: Information Port

Due to the enormous scale of Arkham City.

Naturally, various types of transportation modes are set up, and many privately offered transports are also mixed in.

However, private transport, while relatively cheap, might involve various schemes and traps. Some newcomers to Arkham may be quietly taken to completely unknown dark areas.

Murder is too common in Arkham,

unless someone important is killed, nobody really cares.

"Let’s go underground."

At Dean Dale’s suggestion,

the team boarded an express demon worm train embedded within the crust. After paying the fare, they received a one-time "Transport Membrane."

By putting this membrane on, one can integrate directly into the body cavity of the Drilling Demon Worm through ’Organic Affinity.’

The internal space has also undergone ’artificial’ modification,

equipped with relatively comfortable egg-like adhesion devices that secure individuals with some strip-like structures when they lean back.

Moreover,

the train worm’s skin is ground to a semi-transparent state, allowing passengers to clearly observe the outside situation.

The first part was boring through the ground, reaching a terrifying speed of 1000km/h... After tens of minutes, the Drilling Demon Worm burst through the crust into a special ocean area.

That’s right. This is the area corresponding to the Information Harbor.

Due to Arkham’s scale covering one-fifth of the planet, it also includes an oceanic area,

which was modified correspondingly during city construction to become the famous "Information Harbor."

The vast majority of intelligence in the universe appears here,

possibly due to a specific organization orchestrating the concentration of intelligence networks here in secret, or perhaps as a result of natural evolution.

As its reputation grew, Arkham’s comprehensive scale overshadowed other neutral cities,

attracting many prominent intelligence, bounty, and assassination organizations that spent considerable sums to settle in the Information Harbor, making it the central hub for information in the universe.

Statistics indicate that 38% of outsiders who travel to Arkham do so with the Information Harbor as their final destination.

When the demon worm train entered the oceanic area, Han Dong, as a Deep Sea Envoy, felt a slight resonance... Even the [City Sea] is considered part of the Deep Sea, under the control of some great entity.

Many deep-sea creatures swam here.

Among them, there were squid-like creatures with rounded heads that swiftly adhered to the demon worm train through the oscillation of tentacles.

Their compound eyes seemed to penetrate the worm skin, staring at the passengers inside... they took special bone flutes from their body cavities and played strange melodies against the train’s exterior.

Many passengers took out a kind of noise-canceling headset in advance to ensure they wouldn’t be affected.

Once invaded by consciousness, one would have a strong urge to dive into the sea, leaping out of the train to become food for these creatures.

Of course,

Han Dong and his team had no need for concern.

No matter how strange the flute sounds, they had no effect on the five people, and Han Dong even heard a somewhat familiar taste... something akin to the terrifying flute sounds emanating from the Stone Door leading to the Center of Chaos within Green.

Of course,

the level of the two was completely different, several if not dozens of magnitudes apart.

Han Dong began to rhythmically shake his shoulders following the flute’s melody.

...

Soon,

a ’Information Harbor’ drifting amidst the ocean emerged.

Its overall scale was similar to that of a typical human capital city, with its lower end covered with giant octopus tentacles, writhing slowly in the deep sea.

Though Arkham does not check the identity of outsiders,

the Information Harbor, as an important inter-city area, must verify the identities of newcomers.

Usually, "fluid verification" is used, where a tube of fluid is extracted and sent to the information library for comparison to ensure the individual’s qualities are above the acceptable line and not wanted by major forces or the Old Kings before entering the Information Harbor.

As they approached,

Dean Dale directly showed the "Mi University insignia" to the staff.

Their tentacles stiffened, offering solemn respect and allowing passage.

...

"There are several intelligence offices established here.

To save time, let’s split up. Try to gather information everywhere, no matter how small the intelligence office, and share any findings through the ’Consciousness Network.’

Considering it’s Nicholas’s first visit here and his level is the lowest, Pope, you go with him."

"Mm."

Thus, the team split into four, heading in different directions across the Information Harbor,

with Professor Karen dragging her snake tail and turning into a damp alley, even proceeding directly to the underground area via a hidden door... launching an investigation directly from the Dark Side of the Information Harbor.

She was evidently quite familiar with this place.

"Nicholas, just keep up with me... Most of the shops here are low-end intelligence shops, absolutely not worth wasting time on.

Besides, I have a batch of very reliable friends here."

"Mm."

Even though Han Dong was following Pope,

his eye was doing its best to collect intelligence about the Information Harbor.

’Most shops specialize in selling intelligence, with some shadowy vendors actively soliciting clients.

Additionally, there are shops handling bounty commissions, where you can hire their help or apply to become a "Doer" to earn money.

There’s even an intelligence auction, which likely sells information based on rarity and keywords... Such intelligence often involves treasure locations or demons carrying rare treasures.

Mm, what’s this...’

The Demon Eye, while scanning the street, unexpectedly captured a strange aura.

A deep grey aura emanated from the depths of a certain alley, constructing bizarre, distorted faces, whispering some unclear words.

"Pope, is this a place that sells intelligence too?"

Upon following Han Dong’s direction, Pope also frowned slightly.

"I didn’t notice such a place during my previous visits... However, shops situated in corners like this often belong to special intelligence offices on the Dark Side.

This kind of place is likely something Professor Karen would inquire about.

However, this aura is different from any Dark Side intelligence office I’ve seen. We can check it out later."

"Mm."

Just as Han Dong was about to avert his gaze,

he suddenly sensed someone in the alley watching him, and a very uncomfortable feeling gripped his heart.

When the Demon Eye scanned again, the feeling of being watched immediately vanished.

Under Pope’s guidance, they arrived at the center of the Information Harbor, to a special building suspended mid-air like a star, corresponding to a massive-scale [Void Information Station].

This intelligence station is large enough to be ranked among the top three in the Information Harbor, and any demon entering here possesses some financial power.

The person in charge, who comes from the same school as Pope, is a void being enveloped in a cloak, exposing only a head resembling a gaseous planet.

However, when Pope quietly handed over a piece of paper with ’Francis Morgan’ written on it,

the individual shook their head and promptly destroyed the paper.

Pope immediately grasped the intent and directly left the intelligence office.

"It seems the teacher indeed doesn’t want me to obtain information directly from the void space... Nicholas, let’s test our luck back to that place."
