Chapter 1504: Chapter 1502: Surveillance Room and Experiment

In the process of escaping the current area, Han Dong discovered that zombie transformations in the mall were not limited to this single instance.

Every ten meters or so, there would be a customer violently coughing, transforming into a zombie on the spot.

Furthermore, what was even deadlier was the transmission speed... Within just ten seconds, the transformation occurred, and given the current crowd density in the mall, it would take less than ten minutes for zombies to occupy over 90% of the space.

The top priority was to find a space that wouldn’t be overrun by zombies, a smaller area that could ensure control.

"Where’s the surveillance room on this floor? Just take us there directly."

"Aren’t we trying to escape?" The bribed salesperson was already trembling, his legs nearly giving way.

Han Dong spoke with a serious expression:

"We’re currently in the snack section, which should be on the third floor of the supermarket, right? If zombie transformations occur here, the lower two floors are likely experiencing the same—or probably worse—already.

If we just run out like this, chances are we’ll be attacked along the way.

It’s better to head to the sealed surveillance room first. From there, we can observe the mall’s situation and safely wait for the police to rescue us."

"Makes sense."

The salesperson, successfully persuaded, led Han Dong and Sally to the edge of this floor... Following the perimeter corridor deeper inside would lead them to the [Surveillance Room].

Just then.

An elderly grandmother who had just undergone zombie transformation emerged from between the shelves, her gnawed carotid artery spraying blood madly.

The grandmother looked about seventy or eighty years old, bearing a large belly that should have made movement difficult, yet now she was sprinting at lightning speed, as fast as a young man.

Her bloodshot eyeballs locked onto Han Dong and the others, as though a feast was right in front of her.

"So quick? The zombie virus actually stimulates individual potential?"

As Han Dong analyzed, the middle-aged salesperson beside him nearly wet his pants in fear.

Seeing the zombie grandmother about to close in—whoosh! A sawtooth arrow pierced through her brow and through her entire skull, the serrated arrowhead carrying fragments of brain tissue.

The zombie grandmother’s eyes went black, and she collapsed heavily to the ground.

Luckily, the rule of ’brain broken and die’ still held true; otherwise, the situation would have gotten much worse.

Sally’s expression remained unchanged. Stepping forward, she stomped on the grandmother’s neck, pulled out the arrow dangling with brain tissue, and returned it to her quiver.

"Amazing! Who are you people?"

"Don’t worry. Just do as we say, and you’ll make it out alive... Now, hurry to the surveillance room!"

"Alright! I happen to have the key here."

The salesperson took the lead, Sally followed closely behind.

Han Dong deliberately stayed at the rear, all the while noticing a critical detail.

Shortly after the grandmother was taken down, a total of nine zombies in the vicinity gathered immediately... This was something Han Dong couldn’t comprehend using conventional zombie lore.

"What’s going on? The supermarket is filled with customers; the zombies have countless targets. Why would they all converge here because of one zombie’s death?

Are they being drawn by a special scent from the destroyed brain, or is it something else?

I need to figure this out—maybe it will lead to a vital clue for escape."

Han Dong didn’t follow the team towards the surveillance room and instead stood at the corridor entrance, assuming a stance.

His right arm dangled vertically, slowly building up force.

When the first approaching zombie lunged forward, he timed his punch perfectly and delivered a blow!

A burst of bone-cracking echoed as the burly adult zombie flew backward, knocking down the zombies behind it along the way... Now, only two zombies were left chasing from the sides.

One was a school-uniformed teenage girl.

The other was a corporate slave type—dressed shabbily, head coolly perspiring—with glasses.

"You’ll do!"

Han Dong sent the teenage girl flying with a kick and turned to face the bespectacled zombie man.

As the zombie lunged forward, Han Dong grabbed its skull, halting its biting attempt.

What followed was rather ’excessive.’

His right hand’s pointer finger extended into a sharp nail—swish!... A clean horizontal slice.

The bespectacled zombie’s entire head was neatly severed in an instant; however, the biting motion didn’t stop. As long as the brain remained intact, related functions would still operate.

To avoid getting bitten, Han Dong stabbed a tentacle into the back of its head, suppressing the brain’s excitement.

With the severed head in hand, he sprinted toward the corridor depths.

By then, the "Surveillance Room" had been unlocked by the salesperson using their employee key and was waving at Han Dong to hurry.

As Han Dong crossed the threshold, click! The door was immediately locked and sealed.

"Ah! What... what are you doing?"

Noticing the zombie head in Han Dong’s possession, the salesperson shrank against the wall, trembling violently.

"Don’t be afraid. I need to study these zombies and prepare for the worst... If no one comes to save us, we’ll have to figure out an escape plan ourselves.

Before that, it’s necessary to gather as much information as possible about these zombies."

The security personnel had already fled upon noticing abnormalities, leaving only Han Dong and the others inside the surveillance room.

Han Dong first located a security uniform, cutting its sleeve to bind the zombie’s mouth tightly, ensuring it couldn’t bite anyone, then hung it temporarily on a clothing rack.

He shifted his focus to the monitors.

Unfortunately, Walma used a layered management system, and this surveillance room only oversaw the third floor.

Additionally, the cameras were fairly common models, incapable of zooming or precise positioning, limited to general observations of different areas.

Just as Han Dong suspected, the virus had spread with terrifying speed. In mere ten minutes, the mall had become a zombie lair, and no living person could be seen in the footage.

No suspicious killer-like individuals had been spotted yet.

However, these monitors at least allowed him to keep an eye on the overall situation of the third floor, while he could rely on the salesperson to understand the mall’s layout.

『I wonder what kinds of changes will occur as the number of ladybugs increases.

Let’s start by studying this head—I hope it interacts with my right arm somehow.』

The salesperson was frantically dialing emergency numbers.

Little did he know, the police had already received the report and were placing Walma under full lockdown and quarantine.

"Sally, keep watching these monitors. Let me know immediately if you spot any signs of suspicious killers... I’ll run an experiment."

"Alright."

Han Dong placed the frenzied zombie head on the table and used his sharp nail for an ’autopsy.’

The brain tissue inside the skull appeared exceedingly active, almost as if it wanted to leap out.

Han Dong picked up a glass left behind by the security staff, extracting a drop of the zombie brain’s blood.

Following that, he cut his own finger to let a droplet of his blood mix with the zombie’s in the glass.

What followed brought a smile of satisfaction to Han Dong’s face—the zombie blood showed no resistance and was instantly devoured and assimilated.

"The G-virus is remarkable, even in its weakened state. And my blood is extraordinary too... With this, I’ll hold the advantage in this game."
