Chapter 1491: Chapter 1489: Special World
[Enter]
As Han Dong stepped inside, it marked the imminent beginning of the Fate Event.
Prior to its official commencement, the System detected a special item on Han Dong and temporarily transported him to a settlement-like Pure White Space.
On the white desktop lay a scroll-like "Fate Treasure Map" and a six-sided die.
Without any hesitation, Han Dong unfurled the scroll.
"The ’Fate Treasure Map’ has been used.
The System has detected that two teams are entering the S-01 world simultaneously through separate entry points into the Fate Space. Following deliberation and detection by the Black Tower, it has been decided that both teams will be placed into the same world, influenced by the Treasure Map.
This arrangement, which indirectly increases your difficulty in finding the treasure chest, will entitle you, as the map’s holder, to corresponding compensation.
Compensation is as follows:
If you successfully acquire the Final Treasure within the event, its rewards will shift from ’random generation’ to ’individual customization.’
The chest will analyze your personal attributes, ensuring a random item appropriate to you is inside.
If you fail to secure the Final Treasure, you will still receive a ’Compensation Chest,’ which will at least yield Epic Materials, with a low probability of Legendary Materials, and an extremely low chance of Legendary Equipment."
Han Dong’s expression contorted into a Mad Laugh upon reading this prompt.
"So... everything *was* premeditated, huh?
No wonder the Gray Old King was not only unopposed to me leading Green and the others into the Fate Space but even wholeheartedly supported the endeavor. And his only condition? The exact timing of our entry.
This way, my Suicide Squad would coincide perfectly with the entry of Dumps and Pope’s Rational Team into the Fate Space at the same time.
Seems the Upper Beings spend their endless hours concocting elaborate games to amuse themselves, don’t they?
That said, there’s one thing I can’t quite figure out: why would the Upper Beings support this decision, which could potentially annihilate an entire generation of promising newcomers?
The current Elements are the most gifted batch in centuries. The Black Tower can easily assess Green and the others’ immense Potential—let alone their performance in the London Game, which must have already caught their attention.
Given the opposing dynamic between the two sides, if the Black Tower were to manipulate events in the shadows and create a no-win deathtrap, the entire Element cohort would perish.
How can the Upper Beings be so certain the Black Tower wouldn’t pull such a stunt?
Or perhaps their relationship isn’t purely adversarial? Maybe there’s an underlying connection I’m unaware of? Something even more significant than their conflict?
This unknown relationship could possibly explain why, as a visitor from S-01 with Demon Attributes, I haven’t been completely rejected here.
Once I make it out alive, I’ll consult Mr. M about it... There’s undoubtedly a high-level secret buried here.
At any rate, it’s not all bad news.
Sure, Pope’s presence will raise the difficulty of securing the treasure, but it’s also advantageous for clearing this event and resisting Fate itself.
At a crucial moment, our two teams could even form an alliance to fend off the other treasure-hunting squads.
Plus, the System’s compensation is excellent~! With this, I no longer need to worry about ’the items from the chest being a poor fit.’ My efforts won’t go to waste.
Time to give it my all... When it comes to treasure contention, the trickiest obstacle is bound to be [Pope].
Luckily, I still have the starting advantage. Please, just grant me a [6]."
When Han Dong picked up the Lucky Dice on the table, a System notification sounded:
"Direct or indirect interference with the dice roll is strictly prohibited. Any violation will result in the dice’s luck effect being nullified, and the individual will gain 3 Misfortune Value points.
*Misfortune Value is the opposite of Luck Value. Individuals burdened with it will face significant disadvantages during events."
Han Dong, of course, dared not meddle.
Grabbing the die with a casual gesture, he gave it a gentle toss. The die collided with the tabletop and spun furiously, driven by an unnatural repulsive force.
The final number facing upwards elicited a grimace from Han Dong: [2].
"Well... at least it’s slightly better than [1]."
"Luck Value +2. Effect conditions have been uploaded to the Fate System. World matching in progress, please wait..."
This time, Han Dong waited significantly longer than before—several hours, by his estimate—before the System response arrived.
"Matched to Special World EX-03:
*Special Note: Due to uncontrollable factors and inherent variability, the original world failed to evolve and promote along the designated Black Tower pathway, resulting in the formation of an unstable, chaotic special world.
The Special World holds immense research value for the Black Tower. Consequently, it is monitored using special methods, and staff are occasionally deployed to intervene in certain uncontrollable regions.
The EX-03 World’s ranking system is entirely distorted. Upon entry, individuals will have their levels and abilities greatly suppressed or outright sealed, starting at conditions approximating an ordinary human.
(Friendly Employee Reminder) Within the Special World, refrain from excessively relying on your own abilities. Discovering and exploiting the world’s rules is key to survival.
Non-linear core storyline, 10,381 side plotlines, and treasure plots have been uploaded.
Individual identity allocation in progress. World restrictor has been enabled..."
"Special World? Chaotic System?"
In an instant, a powerful restricting force engulfed Han Dong’s body. His level and numerous abilities were subjected to overwhelming suppression, some even entirely sealed. Resisting this king-level restriction was utterly futile.
The sensation was even worse than when traveling to the Corpse Country. At least back then, his critical Skull traits remained intact.
"This! At least leave me with some basic abilities... If they revert me to Nicholas’s initial human state, this game is unplayable."
No matter how much Han Dong lamented, the restrictions showed no signs of relenting.
His vision darkened, and consciousness faded.
...
Beep... beep... beep!
The sound of a heart monitor was the first thing to greet Han Dong’s ears.
His groggy eyes slowly opened, revealing a pristine private hospital room. A needle inserted into the back of his hand connected to an IV drip of saline.
Han Dong pretended to stay asleep while hurriedly inspecting his physical state.
After taking stock, he exhaled faintly, feeling slightly relieved.
Though his level was heavily suppressed, pushing him back to a condition somewhere between a normal person and an Apprentice Knight, some traits had been preserved.
The Black Vortex Trunk and two external arms remained intact, albeit scaled down to match his restrained level.
However, the effects of the "Faceless Skull" were mostly sealed, leaving him capable of producing only a few soft, flimsy tentacles.
"At least I’m not some frail youth. Compared to the average person, I’m still a bit stronger."
At the same time, Han Dong identified the reason for his hospital stay.
"Skull Fracture," "Multiple gunshot wounds to the body resulting in shattered liver and kidneys, accompanied by severe blood loss."
However, thanks to successful organ transplant surgeries, his condition had stabilized. Evidently, he had been bedridden for over six months and was on the verge of discharge today.
"So this is what a Luck Value +2 starting character gets? What an awful deal."
