Chapter 130 - Hundred And Thirty
Chapter 130: Chapter Hundred And Thirty
"Where is it?" Doris whispered, her voice trembling. She frantically searched her room, tossing pillows and blankets aside. Her heart pounded in her chest as she frantically searched for the missing item.
"What will I say? I can’t just tell him I lost it," she muttered to herself, her voice filled with dread. "I don’t even want to think about what he might do to me."
Tired of searching, She bent down as she sat on the floor, her head resting against the cold, hard wood. Her mind flashed back to the terrifying encounter with the masked man. She remembered the intensity of his gaze, the cold, calculating look in his eyes. He had given her the ring, a symbol of her passage to see the mysterious master. But now, it was gone.
She remembered fainting after the encounter when Suzy came to help her. The ring must have slipped from her grasp during the fall or perhaps she had misplaced it upon entering her room. She has searched Suzy’s room carefull but couldn’t find it. Now her own room isn’t giving her any hope of finding it.
"Where would it be?" Panic seized her as she realized the dire consequences of losing the ring.
"What am I going to do now?" she cried out, her voice filled with despair. She buried her face in her hands, tears streaming down her face.
She knew that the masked man would be furious if she doesn’t come and might kill her if she couldn’t produce the ring. He was a dangerous man, capable of inflicting unimaginable harm and that ring looked precious. She had to find the ring, no matter what.
Doris wiped away her tears, determined to find the missing ring. She resumed her search, her mind racing. A chilling thought crept into her mind. "Have they caught up to me? Have they realized I didn’t finish the job?" She shook her head, dismissing the thought. "I have to find that ring first. The rest can wait."
Just then, a knock sounded at her door. "Who is it?" she asked, her voice tense.
"It’s me, Clare," a voice replied. "Her Grace calls for you."
"Okay, I’ll be out in a moment," Doris replied, her voice barely a whisper.
As the footsteps faded away, Doris quickly put everything back in order. She couldn’t afford to arouse suspicion. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart, and headed towards Suzy’s room.
As she walked, her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. She was caught in a dangerous game, a game that could cost her life. She had to be careful, every move she made could have dire consequences.
Approaching the door, she caught sight of what looked like a man. She wasn’t sure if he was a mere visitor or a worker as he wasn’t dressed as a worker of the castle or a noble or high ranked person. He bowed before leaving the room.
"I’m happy you like it, Your Grace," he said, his voice smooth and confident. "It’s a privilege to serve you and receive your praises."
Doris froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She recognized that voice. She couldn’t see his face but she was sure of the voice. It was the same voice she had heard from the masked man, the same voice that had haunted her dreams. A wave of fear washed over her as she realized it was the man, the one who had attacked her. It was also the same voice she heard that faithful night, she was sure if it.
Her feet felt heavy, rooted to the ground. She wanted to chase after him, to confront him, but she was paralyzed by fear. Suzy’s voice broke through her thoughts.
"Oh, Doris," Suzy said, her voice filled with surprise. "You’re here already."
Doris managed to force a smile. "Yes, Milady," she replied, her voice trembling. "I... I’m here. You called for me?"
Suzy looked at her, her brow furrowed. "Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?" she asked. "You look pale. Are you alright?"
Doris forced another smile, trying to hide her fear. "I’m fine, Milady," she lied. "My mind was just occupied with other things."
Suzy nodded, unconvinced. "Well, come in," she said, gesturing towards the room. "We need to pack my belongings. All of it."
Doris’s eyes widened in surprise. "Why, if I may ask, Milady?" she asked.
Suzy smiled. "I’m moving into Ryan’s room," she announced. "I suppose since we’re a couple, there’s no need for us to use separate rooms."
Doris’s jaw dropped. "Oh," she managed to squeak out.
Suzy chuckled. "Yes, so I need you to pack them and arrange them in his room," she said.
"Will all your things fit into His Grace’s room, Milady?" Doris asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
Suzy laughed. "Yes, I’ve calculated it," she replied. "That room is fucking massive."
Doris’s eyes widened. "Milady!" she exclaimed. She quickly covered Suzy’s mouth. "No curse words Milady, remember?" she said, her cheeks turning pink.
Suzy nodded, her face a mixture of shock and amusement. " You’re right, my bad."
Doris turned to the task at hand, beginning to pack Suzy’s belongings. As she worked, her mind raced. She kept thinking and her thoughts kept drifting back to the strange man she saw. Who was he? What did he want? And why was he in the duchess’s room?
She knew that she had to be careful. The man was dangerous, and she didn’t know what he was capable of. She had to find a way to uncover his identity and his intentions, but she had to do it without arousing suspicion.
After they finished packing, Doris went to Ryan’s room to arrange Suzy’s belongings. Suzy, meanwhile, called for Noah.
"Noah," she said, her voice low. "I need you to keep an eye on Lord Evans. Report back to me immediately if you see anything suspicious."
Noah nodded, understanding the seriousness of her request. "I will, Your Grace," he replied, disappearing into the shadows.
