Chapter 702: 702 There are no people who don’t keep secret cash
Gu Yingzhou responded to the veiled threat with a light laugh, his voice filled with indulgence, "Scared, scared, Comrade Lin is magnanimous. Will you forgive me just this once?"
Surrendering in an exceptionally swift manner.
Even Lin Tang had to admit she was impressed.
How needlessly obsequious!
"Fine, but next month your allowance is cut by half."
Gu Yingzhou’s smile froze, and he almost missed a pedal stroke in surprise, trying to negotiate, "Isn’t half a bit too harsh? How about leaving it at seventy percent?"
He only got ten RMB for his monthly allowance, halving it would leave him with just five RMB.
By then, he wouldn’t even be able to afford a White Rabbit Creamy Candy for Tangtang.
Lin Tang hummed, "Do you have any private savings?"
Her father had said, men always have some money stashed away!
Gu Yingzhou raised an eyebrow, "What, you’re running low on cash?"
Lin Tang, gripping the man’s coat, casually responded, "It’s not like I’m a gold-swallowing beast that could spend so much money at once. I’m just asking... "
Gu Yingzhou mentally tallied his finances and honestly replied, "I do have private savings, but it’s not on me, it’s in our Jing City home."
So he really did have some.
Lin Tang was curious, "How much do you have?"
Now that they were family, she should at least know how much their household savings amounted to.
When Gu Yingzhou heard the girl ask this question, joy filled his heart.
Madam Ruan had just been criticizing him before, saying that Tangtang didn’t even ask about these things and was still unfamiliar with him.
He kept his composure then, but deep down he had felt disappointingly cold.
Now that Tangtang was inquiring about these matters, what did it imply? It implied that Madam Ruan was talking nonsense!
"I have over five thousand in savings, I don’t remember the exact amount, and there are some other items. In the future... I’ll give them all to you."
The ’other items’ he referred to were the jewelry, antiques, and paintings that the Gu and Ruan families had given him.
These items couldn’t currently be shown in public and he had hidden them in a safe place.
In the future, when the situation improved, all would belong to Tangtang.
Lin Tang’s mouth gaped open in shock.
"How could there be so much?"
Gu Yingzhou casually remarked, "Is it that much? It’s not really a lot."
Being the youngest child in the family, he was doted upon from an early age, not just by his elders but also by his older brothers and sisters.
Having seen plenty of valuable items, money, to him, was no more than numbers.
Hearing the nonchalance in Gu Yingzhou’s voice, Lin Tang felt her world view was too small.
"It’s not a lot? You make me feel like a country bumpkin," she said, covering her face.
If this were the future, she wouldn’t care about millions or tens of millions, but not right now.
When money came in thousands so easily, it just felt...
Gu Yingzhou couldn’t help laughing, "Who talks about themselves like that?"
Explaining, he said, "That money isn’t all my earnings, a portion of it was given by family elders."
Lin Tang clicked her tongue.
The wealthy families indeed, elders give so generously.
Not like her, receiving a few dimes as lucky money during her childhood was considered quite a bit.
"Looks like my marriage to a gold thigh is confirmed," Lin Tang joked about herself with a smile.
Gu Yingzhou was quite aware, "It’s all yours in the future."
After getting married, it was quite standard to let the wife manage the finances.
Lin Tang didn’t play the outsider, responding with a cheery smile, "That’s great, Zhouzhou, you’re so kind~"
The young girl’s voice was sweet and melodious, causing Gu Yingzhou’s smile to deepen, wishing he could offer her every wonderful thing in the world.
The winter wind was cold, even with the sun shining, it remained chilly.
"Achoo!!" Lin Tang suddenly sneezed.
Gu Yingzhou stopped the bicycle and took a scarf from his bag to wrap it around Lin Tang.
Frowning slightly with concern and displeasure, he said, "I told you to wear a scarf but you didn’t, and now you’ve caught a cold."
Lin Tang touched her nose guiltily, "But I was feeling very warm earlier."
The room was so hot that her cheeks were red; it was only natural she didn’t want to wrap up like a bear after stepping outside.
Gu Yingzhou gave Lin Tang a teasing look, his voice taking on a slightly ridiculing tone, "It’s all my fault for making the house too warm, my mistake."
After speaking, he pedaled rapidly, and the bicycle took off.
Lin Tang realized she may have annoyed him, so she quickly wrapped her arms around Gu Yingzhou’s waist and cooed.
"I was wrong! I’ll listen to you in the future. Zhouzhou, don’t be angry, please? You’re the best, okay okay..."
Her soft, cajoling words soon dissipated the irritation that had barely had time to form in Gu Yingzhou, popping like bubbles, leaving no trace behind.
"Ahem." He cleared his throat, saying, "Don’t let it happen again."
Lin Tang smiled, her eyes curving, "Got it~"
As for what she’d do next time, well, that was another story!
-
In Port City.
While the inland areas had already plunged into darkness, here the high rises stood densely packed, the streets bustled with traffic and city lights sparkled outside.
Two young men stood on the street, feeling utterly insignificant as they watched the passing cars, with no idea which direction to go and a look of confusion on their faces.
"Kairui, which way should we head?" one of the young men suddenly asked.
As he spoke, he looked at the silent youth beside him, his gaze complex.
Tang Kairui, much like the speaking young man, was wearing worn-out clothes, and filth covered his body, looking even worse off than a beggar on the street.
The only difference was that he leaned on a dark wooden stick and had a cloth wrapped around his right leg, stained with blood.
Pale-faced, Tang Kairui found something to lean on to support himself, his voice hoarse, "You go ask someone for directions to Central West District."
Zhao Ke glanced at his leg, concerned, "Will you be alright on your own here?"
"I’m fine; I’ll just wait here for you. Go on," Kairui insisted.
Though Zhao Ke was worried, he had no choice. After admonishing Kairui to be careful, he turned away to seek directions.
As soon as he left, Kairui leaned back a little, pulled on his injured leg, and his already pale face turned a shade paler.
Throughout it all, no matter how uncomfortable he felt, he never let go of the small bundle in his hand.
Thinking of the person in his heart, Tang Kairui’s eyes grew dim.
No one knew that the youth who once had a gentle smile now rarely showed it.
It didn’t take long for Zhao Ke to return.
Finally, a smile graced his face, "Kairui, I’ve got the directions. The place you mentioned isn’t far, we can walk there. How’s your leg? Can you make it?"
As the medicine’s effect started to wear off, pain began to seep into Kairui’s leg, the kind that stung with every move.
But right now, enduring was his only option.
Biting the inside of his cheek, he answered, "Yes, let’s go while it’s still light out."
Zhao Ke stepped forward to support him, "I’ll help you."
"Thanks," said Kairui, gratefully.
"What’s there to thank? We survived together, comrades in life and death. This small matter needs no thanks," Zhao Ke said brightly.
If not for each other’s support, they might not have made it this far.
Kairui knew their bond wouldn’t be easily severed, so he accepted the help without any more pleasantries, and together they headed toward their destination.
Before long, they stopped in front of a mansion where every brick and tile exuded luxury.
Through the iron gate, the deep-set buildings could be faintly seen...
Reeking of RMB.
