My Beloved Super Fierce Wife
Chapter 604: I still need this person for something.

Chapter 604: I still need this person for something.

The leader was robust and seemed unremarkable, but his eyes occasionally flashed with viciousness.

He certainly didn’t look like a pushover.

Apparently not expecting someone to appear so late, the man raised his eyelids slightly.

He gave his sidekick a look, and his men rushed forward.

Mu Sheng realized these people meant no good, and instead of confronting them directly, he turned and ran towards the village.

One of the group was a fast runner.

He dashed over like a gust of wind, blocking Mu Sheng’s path.

"Stop running, you can’t escape," he said with a touch of scorn in his eyes.

Mu Sheng knew he couldn’t afford to delay and without a word, he swung his stick and started striking.

Crack—

"Ah!" Caught off guard, Fei Maotui cried out in pain when he was hit squarely.

Seeing this, the others surged forward.

The leader, seeing Mu Sheng’s ferocious actions and knowing he wasn’t a pushover, his eyes lit up.

Picking up a rock from nowhere, while Mu Sheng was entangled with the others, he smashed it on the back of his head.

The force of an adult smashing a stone can’t be withstood by anyone.

Mu Sheng instantly passed out from the pain.

The perfectly good flashlight rolled silently into the grass on one side.

"Big brother, what should we do with this guy? Toss him down the mountain or what?" Fei Maotui, resentful from the hit, kicked Mu Sheng and asked maliciously.

The leader glanced at him and said coldly, "Don’t touch this person, I have a use for him."

This lad looked fierce, and he needed people like that.

Fei Maotui, rubbing his side, was seething inside.

Suppressing his intentions, he said, "Big brother, do we have enough people yet?"

The one called big brother turned his gaze towards the thicket.

The subordinates swiftly cleared the dense grass.

Eight ragged farmers lay on the ground, so still one might think they were dead if not for the slight rise and fall of their chests.

"...Yeah. Let’s leave it at this for now, we might have to lie low for a while after this."

With that, he cast a lingering look in the direction of Shuangshan Brigade and disappeared into the moonlight without looking back.

Oh, what a pity.

Mu Sheng and the other unconscious men were thrown onto a flatbed cart.

Accompanied by the rumble, the men and cart moved away into the distance.

-

Lin Tang and her third brother returned to the county; it was not even eight o’clock, but it was already dark.

Upon arriving home, she washed up quickly, changed into comfortable clothes, and sat back down in the courtyard.

Lin Qingmu didn’t pay much attention.

After talking for a while, a clinking sound came from outside the door.

Then, Gu Yingzhou entered the courtyard.

He nodded at Lin Qingmu then looked at Lin Tang, "Shall we go?"

"Let’s go," Lin Tang replied crisply.

With that, she stood up.

Lin Qingmu was puzzled, "It’s already dark, where are you guys going?"

Something seemed to occur to him, and his eyes became quite wary.

Lin Tang rubbed her nose, "We’re going to exercise."

She had grown taller recently, and was enthusiastic, remembering every exercise day very clearly.

After clearing things up, she walked outside and jumped onto the back seat of the bicycle.

Lin Qingmu hurried after, "... I’m coming too."

He locked the door with a click and trotted to catch up.

After soaking in medicinal baths for several days, his physical condition had improved a lot; keeping up with the bike was easy.

By eight o’clock they arrived at the basketball court of the Culture Palace, played for about an hour, and then each went their separate ways.

-

The next day.

When the agreed time came and Mu Sheng still hadn’t returned home, Lin Lu found it strange.

"What’s with Asheng today? Why hasn’t he shown up yet..."

Thinking his apprentice was delayed by brigade affairs, he was merely puzzled and wasn’t overly concerned.

Li Xiuli responded, "Maybe he got held up by something; Asheng is a strong young man, he won’t come to any harm."

Lin Lu thought that made sense and put his mind at ease for the time being.

He busied himself with other matters, and time flew by quickly.

Still, by afternoon, Mu Sheng hadn’t arrived.

Lin Lu started to worry.

When he saw Lin Qingshan pushing in a bike, he said, "Big brother, don’t bring the bike inside yet. Go check on Asheng for me. He was supposed to come today but hasn’t shown up, and I’m worried something’s happened."

Lin Qingshan was momentarily stunned and then quickly turned the bike around.

"Right, I’ll go now."

Seeing their father didn’t eat a thing and was dispatched by Grandpa, Lin Zhixuan and Lin Zhicheng hurried out, each handing him their sesame cakes.

"Dad, here’s some food for you," said Lin Zhixuan.

"Dad, here’s mine too," added Lin Zhicheng.

Lin Qingshan, looking at the two sesame cakes in his hand, felt a warmth in his heart and his fatigue vanished.

"You are both such good sons to your dad."

He gobbled the cakes without minding the saliva on them in the slightest.

Just as he mounted the bike, an older man with half-gray hair arrived.

Lin Qingshan was taken aback when he saw the man, "Uncle Yuan, what brings you here?"

Old Yuan peered into the Lin family’s courtyard and said, "I noticed Asheng hasn’t returned, so I came to check."

Lin Qingshan paused, "Asheng didn’t return last night?"

"No, he didn’t," Old Yuan replied.

Realizing something was amiss, the old man’s face changed dramatically, "What’s going on? Where could Asheng be? He couldn’t have..."

He stopped mid-sentence, patting his mouth, "Nothing will have happened. Asheng must have been held up by something."

Despite his words, his face looked uneasy.

Lin Qingshan, concerned by Uncle Yuan’s reaction, got off his bike and helped the old man walk toward the house.

"Dad, Uncle Yuan is here," he called out.

Lin Lu, hearing the voice, rushed out.

"Old Yuan, what’s wrong? Where’s Asheng?" he inquired urgently.

Old Yuan, full of worry, said, "I was going to ask you the same thing. Asheng didn’t come home last night."

"What?" Lin Lu raised his voice, "He didn’t come home last night? That’s impossible; we saw Asheng leave here just after seven o’clock. How could he not have gone home?"

Old Yuan shook his head, confirming, "He really didn’t return."

"He stayed out last night, and I thought he had stayed here. When I still didn’t see him come back by noon today, I became worried and came looking for him," Old Yuan continued.

With Old Yuan speaking, except for Lin Qingmu and Lin Tang, everyone else came out.

Li Xiuli frowned, "Where could Asheng have gone? Have you checked all the places he might be?"

Old Yuan shook his head, his tone filled with concern, "Other than home and here, where else could Asheng go? I can’t think of any place!"

With his apprentice missing, Lin Lu also became anxious.

Suddenly unable to sit still, he said, "Let’s call some people together and go look for him."

While the adults discussed serious matters, the carefree young ones were each doing their own thing in the courtyard.

Qiuqiu came inside, carrying something in its mouth.

Though chubby, its movements were agile, and it suddenly dropped to the ground in front of Little Zhixuan.

It released the object from its mouth.

"Ao!!" It barked sharply.

Little Zhixuan had been drawing and was startled by the noise, causing his pen to go askew and spoil the line he had drawn.

"Qiuqiu! You’re disturbing me again," he complained.

As he spoke, he looked unhappily at the offending creature.

Seeing its little master annoyed, Qiuqiu sheepishly shrank into itself, placing its head on its paws, looking very innocent.

When Little Zhixuan looked over at Qiuqiu, he noticed the family’s flashlight.

He left his seat, picked up the flashlight, and walked over to Lin Lu.

"Grandpa, your flashlight," he said.

Lin Lu stood up in alarm, "Where did this come from?"

Little Zhixuan pointed at Qiuqiu, speaking softly, "Qiuqiu brought it back."
