Chapter 481: 481 How do you know I won’t let you have your way?
He wore a polite smile on his face, being courteous towards Gu Yingzhou while smiling at his own little sister.
"You two should head back and rest soon, you’ve still got work in the afternoon."
Lin Tang didn’t know the specifics about the Broadcasting Station and didn’t want to worry her older brother, so she didn’t mention that she had taken time off.
All she said was, "Understood, big brother, just be careful on the road with Zhixuan."
Lin Qingshan put his son onto the front beam of the bicycle and waved his hand, "Got it, you head back now. Don’t be out and about in this scorching heat."
As his voice faded, he rode off with Lin Zhixuan.
Watching her older brother and nephew disappear into the distance, Lin Tang withdrew her gaze and looked at Gu Yingzhou.
"Out with it, what’s the secret you’ve been keeping?"
Gu Yingzhou walked forward with her, his voice lazy, "The manuscript you submitted before, do you remember it?"
"Manuscript?" Lin Tang’s mind raced, attempting to recall the stories and submissions she had written, but she still couldn’t grasp which one he referred to.
These days, the dissemination of information was slow, and feedback on correspondences even more so.
She had submitted manuscripts several times.
She couldn’t quite catch up with which one Gu Yingzhou was talking about.
Thinking this, Lin Tang admitted candidly, "I’ve submitted a few times. I’m not sure which one you’re talking about."
Gu Yingzhou: "..."
After a moment of silence, a humiliated Gu Yingzhou clarified, "The story with the illustrations of the little rabbit."
At the mention of the little rabbit, Lin Tang immediately understood.
Oh, isn’t that the collection of wits and cleverness between the rabbit and the other animals in the forest? She had indeed submitted it.
Seems like it was submitted alongside her brother’s guide to pig farming.
"Yes, I did submit that. What about it?" she asked.
Gu Yingzhou didn’t know the contents of the story but still felt pride on behalf of the young girl.
"Because of that story, Brother Qi came to find you personally."
Lin Tang was taken aback; she hadn’t expected Su Qi to come in person.
"Why would Comrade Su come himself? If there was anything, a phone call would have sufficed. Why did he have to come all the way here?"
The hot weather made traveling quite a hassle.
You’re worth it, thought Gu Yingzhou as he patted Lin Tang’s head, smiling, "He must have a necessary reason for coming in person. You’ll find out after you ask him later."
For talent, no effort is too great.
Lin Tang smiled wryly, not dwelling on it any further.
Changing the subject, she asked, "Is Comrade Su at your place?"
Gu Yingzhou nodded, tilting his head slightly to look at Lin Tang.
His tone held a hint of barely perceptible complaint, "You haven’t visited my home yet."
Lin Tang glanced at him sideways, "You never invited me over. I can’t just show up at your house uninvited; you’d think I had ulterior motives."
Her argument was unashamedly righteous.
Gu Yingzhou sighed and lightly patted Lin Tang’s head, "I’m a grown man. Even if you had ulterior motives, what could possibly happen?"
Besides, how do you know I wouldn’t let you get away with anything?
Lin Tang caught the hidden meaning in the man’s eyes and was momentarily at a loss for words.
...His point seemed valid.
Talking along the way, the two stopped at a courtyard.
Gu Yingzhou pushed open the courtyard door, saying, "Here we are."
Lin Tang followed him inside the house.
Just as she entered the courtyard, she heard the voice of an energetic child.
"Dad, there’s a bug on the flower! I’ve seen this bug in a book before, but I forget what it’s called. Do you remember?"
Su Qi, too lazy to deal with his son who had been a hand-full since morning, was engrossed in a book from Gu Yingzhou’s study room and didn’t even look up.
Su Zheng didn’t mind either, amusing himself first with a tree leaf and then with the ants, content to entertain himself all day.
Lin Tang laughed upon seeing the child’s inability to sit still.
"Is it that boring?"
Children at that age indeed couldn’t stay put. Her Zhicheng was also restless.
He would leave the house in search of his friends after staying indoors for just a short while.
Even going to the bathroom required a group outing.
Upon hearing the sound of her voice, Su Zheng turned and saw Lin Tang, his eyes lighting up instantly.
Like an overexcited Erha seeing his owner, he bounded over.
"Tangtang sister, how come you’re here? I missed you so much! Did you miss me?"
While speaking, he made expectant, comical expressions, which were ridiculously funny.
His easygoing familiarity was endearing.
Lin Tang thought for a moment and honestly confessed, "I didn’t."
She had been too busy to think about the little guy.
Su Zheng’s little face dimmed, filled with disappointment.
Then, as if struck by an idea, he perked up again.
He waved his hands like an adult, convincing himself.
"Ah, it’s my fault for not reminding you. I’ll remind you before I go back next time – then you’ll remember. Let’s not count this time."
Lin Tang was taken aback and laughed, "Well, thank you then."
Su Zheng raised his brows proudly, "You’re welcome."
Seeing his grandnephew getting too comfortable, Gu Yingzhou grabbed him by the nape of his neck, and set him aside.
"We have important things to discuss. Go play over there. I’ll take you out later."
The promise delighted Su Zheng, who politely greeted Lin Tang before picking up a small stick and went back to poking the anthill.
Su Qi poured some water and called Lin Tang over, "Comrade Lin, please take a seat first. Have some water, and we can chat at our leisure."
Lin Tang sat down and politely thanked him, "Thank you."
As the two exchanged courtesies, Gu Yingzhou stood up and headed to the kitchen.
He prepared a fruit platter and placed it before Lin Tang.
"I noticed you didn’t eat much at dinner, have some fruit."
Su Qi eyed the platter containing at least four types of fruit: red-fleshed green-skinned watermelon, dark purple grapes, and chunks of apples and peaches.
Fruits after meals.
His young brother-in-law lived more comfortably than themselves in the Provincial City.
Su Qi couldn’t tell if Gu Yingzhou had forgotten or simply hadn’t thought to offer them even a grape or half an apple.
Reflecting on this, Su Qi’s gaze became meaningful as he looked at Gu Yingzhou.
Tsk, he hadn’t expected his young brother-in-law to be this kind of partner, a truly refreshing realization.
However, Gu Yingzhou thought he just wanted some fruit.
With a slight frown, he fixed his gaze on Su Qi, saying, "Have some if you want. Tangtang has a small appetite and can’t eat much."
So stop looking at him with such a strange expression.
Su Qi: "..."
Seeing his young brother-in-law’s expression saying not to be jealous – there’s enough for everyone – Su Qi felt a gag reflex.
He really wasn’t coveting the fruit.
Meanwhile, Su Zheng, who had been playing, occasionally glanced over.
Once he saw his little uncle bring out the fruit, he washed his hands hastily and trotted over.
"Little uncle, I want watermelon!!"
Gu Yingzhou handed him a clean slice after seeing his tidy hands, "Help yourself if you want to eat; this is your home, after all. No need for formalities."
With a bite of the sweet watermelon, Su Zheng grinned with delight.
Handing a slice to Lin Tang like a professional food vlogger, he urged her to try.
"Tangtang sister, have some watermelon. The watermelon little uncle bought is really sweet. After one slice, you’ll want a second one."
His animated chatter was hard not to adore.
Lin Tang recollected taking care of Su Zheng for those few days, how the child had been quite calm then, wondering how he had changed so much in such a short time.
His clever antics were strangely charming.
