Chapter 479: 479 sold her for free...

Stepping out of the crowd, I handed the ice cream to a child and took a bite of the red bean cake myself.

It was cool and refreshing—so comfortable!

Lin Tang gently ruffled her nephew’s soft hair and smiled, "Go on, eat. Weren’t you saying you wanted an ice pop? This is ice cream, and it’s even better than what your brother had back then."

This was made with milk, more expensive than ice pops and, of course, tastier too.

Lin Zhixuan held the wooden stick of the ice cream with his pudgy hands, his eyes gleaming.

He carefully licked it once, his eyes and brows slightly bending.

"Is it tasty?" Lin Tang asked with a smile.

Lin Zhixuan nodded, "Yummy!!"

Wanting to save some for his brother and sister, the child ate slowly.

He would take a small bite every few steps, and before long, the bottom started melting and fell into his hand.

Lin Zhixuan pursed his plump red lips, furrowing his brows in a quandary, and leaned in to suck on the wooden stick.

After finishing her own red bean cake, Lin Tang noticed her nephew’s disheveled state from the corner of her eye and pulled out a piece of paper, crouching down to wipe his hands.

"It’s too hot today, you have to eat quickly, or it will melt," she said softly.

Lin Zhixuan, holding the ice cream with two clean fingers, obediently let his aunt wipe his hands.

After hesitating for a moment, he said quietly, "Wanted to bring some for brother and sister."

Lin Tang paused, drew back the paper, and her eyes filled with laughter.

"The ice cream will melt; you can’t bring it. Next time, I’ll bring your brother and them together, and I’ll buy them new ones. Is that okay?"

Her little child was so warm-hearted!

Lin Zhixuan thought about it, then nodded his head.

"Okay."

Aunt always kept her word and never lied to the children.

Without further conversation, the aunt and nephew soon arrived at Zhou Peiyu and Ding Yi’s bridal chamber.

The last time I came here, it was all a festive red.

Today, only a few pieces of paper used to pave the way, trampled into the mud, adding a touch of sorrow to the atmosphere.

A heavy mood permeated the air.

Lin Tang stepped forward and knocked lightly on the door, "Comrade Zhou, are you there?"

No sooner had I spoken than there was a clatter from inside the room.

Clearly, the person inside was in no peace of mind.

Lin Tang sighed and continued to call, "Comrade Zhou, I’ve come to see you. If you feel like seeing me, please open the door."

Lin Zhixuan pointed at the door and titled his head, whispering, "Auntie, no one’s opening."

All around was quiet; even his deliberately lowered voice was strikingly clear.

Zhou Peiyu inside the room heard the child’s naive voice and her eyelashes trembled fiercely.

Touching her flat belly, tears fell uncontrollably.

Ding Yi, how could you bear to leave our child fatherless before it’s even born?

How cruel you are.

You have become a hero in the mouths of others, but what about me and our child?

I don’t need you to be a hero, I just wanted you to be well.

Lin Tang waited for a while, but seeing that Zhou Peiyu had no intention of seeing her, she didn’t insist and planned to take her nephew and leave.

Raising her voice, she left a message for the person inside, "Comrade Zhou, you don’t want to see anyone, so I’ll go back first. If you want to talk to someone, you know where my home is."

After speaking, she led Lin Zhixuan away.

Silence fell outside the house once again.

It was quite a while before Zhou Peiyu moved, walked to the door, and opened it.

What was revealed in the sunlight was a pale, emaciated face.

In just over a month, Zhou Peiyu had lost so much weight that she looked nothing like her former plump self.

Her eyes were swollen, her lips cracked, and a sense of despair surrounded her.

It was as if she was trapped in a fog, walking alone, unable to see a glimmer of light.

Lin Tang didn’t know that after she left, Zhou Peiyu came out of the house.

After leaving the Zhou Family, she took Lin Zhixuan to the Culture Palace.

The Culture Palace is in the northwest of the county.

It’s surrounded by a small river, with lush green trees on both sides of the waterway.

To the west is a concrete sports court.

Directly east of the court lies a garden.

Walk through the garden, and there is the Culture Palace.

Being a newly built entertainment venue, everyone was intrigued by it.

At this time, the Culture Palace was very crowded.

Lin Tang found a staff member to get a Culture Palace brochure and sat down to look through it.

Seeing that there really were art classes on the second floor, she happily rubbed Little Zhixuan’s small face, who was sitting obediently by her side.

"We’re in luck, they have drawing classes. Happy, Choudan?"

At least she hadn’t let the little guy down!

Lin Zhixuan brought his little face closer to the brochure in Lin Tang’s hands, his smile beaming from ear to ear.

"Happy!!"

Lin Tang was just as happy and picked up the child, heading straight for the second floor.

"Let’s go, off to sign up."

Lin Zhixuan giggled out loud, his tender little chubby face especially endearing, "Off to sign up."

Once on the second floor, Lin Tang found the registration teacher, got a clear understanding of the situation, and signed up her little nephew.

Since the Culture Palace was state-owned at the time, there was no worry about being cheated.

After signing up, taking the receipt and something akin to a class schedule, Lin Tang felt a weight off her shoulders as she left the Culture Palace with Lin Zhixuan.

Once outside, she glanced over the class schedule.

The class times were different for each age group of children.

For a child Lin Zhixuan’s age, classes were only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, all in the morning.

Listed separately below the timetable were the items parents needed to prepare, all things needed for painting such as paper, brushes, and paints.

"Now that you’ve signed up, you’ll have to go to class three days a week, and you won’t have time to play with your brother anymore, you know."

Lin Zhixuan was full of anticipation for the classes to come, showing no sign of disappointment at not being able to play with his brother.

He turned his head to look back at the place they’d just come from, grasped Lin Tang’s fingers, and said softly, "It’s okay, I like to draw."

Lin Tang knew her little nephew wasn’t very interested in the games that Zhicheng and the others played.

In the village, he often spent more time alone with his crayons, writing and drawing.

Fearing that Zhixuan might get bored, Lin Tang had hurried to find him a drawing teacher.

Regardless of the quality of the teachers at the Culture Palace, they were surely qualified for an initiation.

Lin Tang stroked Little Zhixuan’s head, her voice gentle.

"I know you like it. If you like it, learn well, and you can tell me anything, ask for anything."

Lin Zhixuan hugged his little aunt’s legs, his face full of affection, "Thank you, Little Aunt."

"What’s there to thank for? Just study hard, and maybe I’ll be the aunt of a great painter one day," Lin Tang said with a smile.

Then, her tone changed, "Are you tired, are you hungry?"

Lin Zhixuan covered his little stomach, pursed his lips, and made a very small hand gesture, "A little hungry."

Lin Tang saw the child’s adorably blushing face and picked him up.

"When you’re hungry, you eat. Hold on just a bit longer, we’re almost at the restaurant."

Hustling back and forth all morning, it was already noon without realizing it.

Lin Tang was strong and carried Lin Zhixuan effortlessly toward the state-run restaurant as if she were just playing around.

When they passed by the Textile Factory, they bumped into Gu Yingzhou, who was about to enter the factory.

Lin Zhixuan, seeing him, lit up, his milky voice full of excitement, "Uncle!"

Lin Tang glanced sideward at the little traitor who had given her away for free, her eyelids twitching, "..."

Gu Yingzhou, hearing the familiar milky voice, turned around and saw Lin Tang holding Lin Zhixuan... they seemed to be coming from the opposite direction, his brow furrowing imperceptibly.

Without saying another word, he stepped forward and took Lin Zhixuan from the young lady’s arms.

"Haven’t eaten yet? I’ll take you to lunch first."
