Chapter 469 Imperfect Family Photo

Chapter 469: 469 Imperfect Family Photo

Lin Qingshan felt that his younger brother’s expression seemed insincere and couldn’t help but laugh.

Seeing the overt mockery on his face, Ning Xinrou tugged at his arm.

"Making fun of your own younger brother? You really have a way with things."

Lin Qingshan touched the tip of his nose, "Alright, I won’t laugh anymore."

Lin Tang finished setting up the camera and said, "We can start taking photos now, who wants to go first?"

Everyone said in unison, "Dad goes first."

On this matter, the Lin Family members were quite in sync.

Lin Tang complied, "Sounds good! Dad, how do you want to take the photo?"

Lin Lu glanced at the courtyard, majestic yet clean.

"I’ll just take it in the courtyard. I can compare it when I’m old, by then the house will be old, and your mother and I will be old too..." he said with a laugh.

He wasn’t like others who refused to acknowledge their aging; he was quite at peace with getting old.

"Sure, I promise to take a very spirited photo of Dad."

As Lin Tang spoke, Lin Zhicheng and a few others gathered around, their eyes glued to the camera in her hand, brimming with curiosity.

Lin Lu stood in front of the courtyard holding an enamel jar with Lin Tang’s name on it, standing a bit unnaturally.

His smile towards the camera was a bit stiff.

Clearly not as natural as when he was working yesterday.

Seeing her dad too nervous, Lin Tang put away the camera and said, "Dad, don’t be nervous. The photos won’t look good if you’re too tense."

Lin Lu didn’t know why, but he just felt stiff all over when facing the camera.

"...I can’t help it, what should I do?" he asked, scratching his head in confusion.

Li Xiuli finished braiding Lin Fei’s hair and came out just in time to hear this conversation.

"What do you mean ’can’t help it’?"

Lin Lu approached his wife, his old face looking pitiful, clutching the enamel jar, as bewildered as a child, "Wife, I’m nervous."

Li Xiuli: "..."

"What’s there to be nervous about? I’ll take the photo with you," Lin Tang decisively said.

After speaking, she grabbed Lin Lu and headed for the spot to take the picture.

Seeing him holding a brand new enamel jar in both hands, she was taken aback.

"Where did this new jar come from, and why are you holding it?"

Lin Lu slapped his forehead, took out the award certificate that laid beneath a book on the table, and handed it to Li Xiuli.

"Wife, Tangtang won another award. She brought this back from Sea City.

This enamel jar is the prize. I’ll hold the jar, and you hold the award certificate. Let’s take a photo together; what do you think?" he suggested, as if presenting a treasure.

Li Xiuli, hearing about this for the first time, looked at Lin Tang in surprise.

Lin Lu also looked at his daughter with pride.

Lin Tang quickly lifted the camera and snapped a shot.

She had a feeling this one would be great.

Photos with natural expressions are always the best.

Lin Lu was stunned, "Tangtang, is that... done already?"

Lin Tang nodded and replied, "Yes, it’s done. I think it should turn out well."

Hearing this, the couple relaxed.

"As long as it looks good, that’s fine."

Hearing Tangtang mention that taking photos consumes something called film, Li Xiuli suggested they take a family portrait first.

"Tangtang, you have a limited amount of film, right? How about we take a family portrait first? Whoever else wants a photo can have theirs taken slowly afterward," she said.

Lin Tang agreed, "Okay!"

The family portrait was taken in front of the Lin Family’s front door.

Two stools were placed at the door. Lin Lu and Li Xiuli sat on them, with their four little ones standing in front of the old couple – the eldest and his wife on the left, and the second eldest and his wife on the right.

The family looked harmonious and happy together.

When it was time to take the photo, Lin Lu noticed his daughter couldn’t come over and frowned deeply.

"Tangtang, what about you?"

How can a family portrait not include Tangtang?!

At this moment, they had completely forgotten they also had a younger son.

As Lin Tang adjusted the camera, he said, "I’ll take one for you guys first. I won’t join in today; there will be plenty of opportunities in the future! My third brother isn’t here either, right?"

Comrade Gu had almost outright offered to give her the camera and even included a lot of film rolls. Wouldn’t she be able to take photos however she wanted in the future?!

There would be plenty of opportunities.

Though comforted, Lin Lu and Li Xiuli still felt slightly uneasy.

The thrill of taking pictures had instantly faded by half.

Li Xiuli still wanted the first photo to include Tangtang and asked, "Is the camera easy to use? Could we ask someone from the village to help us take the picture?"

Lin Tang shook his head, "I’m afraid that won’t work."

Villagers even fretted over learning to ride a bicycle, let alone taking pictures. Better forget about it.

"It’s okay, Dad, Mom. Just pretend you’re at the photo studio taking individual photos today. They’re offering us a family portrait for free, but I just happen to be too busy with work to join."

After comforting her family a bit, she snapped her fingers, gesturing everyone to look over.

"Stop looking down, everyone. Look at the camera. I’ll count one, two, three, and we all say ’eggplant’. One... two... three..."

At the count of three, the word ’eggplant’ filled with laughter was shouted in unison, and the Lin Family’s first imperfect family portrait came to be.

Next—

Lin Tang took a photo of his parents and the four little ones together.

One for each of the elderly couple.

One for the first and second branches of the family, their own small family portraits.

One for each couple.

One group picture of the kids, and one for each of them individually.

All the family photos that needed to be taken were done.

The Lin Family members were sitting in the courtyard, sharing their photo-taking experience with excitement, when Mu Sheng arrived with his basket on his back.

Seeing the Lin Family all together and chatting, he looked somewhat uncomfortable.

"Master, Mistress, I’m disturbing you again."

Lin Lu said with a smile, "You’re not disturbing us. Tangtang was just taking pictures for us. Want to join?"

Mu Sheng: "?"

A country fellow who knew only about going to the county photo studio for pictures was utterly baffled.

He didn’t know how to react.

Li Xiuli felt a deep empathy for this young man, who was about the same age as her third son.

She truly regarded him as one of her own young relatives.

She immediately said, "Qingshan, go find a set of your third brother’s clothes for Asheng to change into. Our family rarely takes photos, and Asheng should join us."

"Alright." Before Mu Sheng could refuse, Lin Qingshan stood up, grabbed him, and dragged him toward Lin Qingmu’s room.

Mu Sheng, with a dumbfounded expression, handed the things he brought to Li Xiuli.

Without saying a word, he was pulled away.

Li Xiuli looked inside the basket and lovingly chastised, "This child, why did he bring more things?"

And everything he brought was of good quality: a piece of fatty meat, some wild grapes, and about a dozen persimmons.

Lin Lu knew his apprentice’s intentions, and he sighed.

"Let’s accept it. He’ll feel uncomfortable if we don’t."

Thinking about the reputation his apprentice had unjustly earned around the brigade, his old face was filled with heartache.

He was actually a diligent and honest child. He couldn’t understand why the gossiping women had spread such rumors about him.

If he hadn’t known Old Yuan and was aware that he wasn’t the deceptive type, he would not have taken Mu Sheng in. He also wouldn’t have learned that the youth maligned like that was actually such a good person.

Li Xiuli, being a mother, was naturally compassionate and emotional. Hearing this made her eyes water.

If it were her own child, whether it be Tangtang or even Qingshan, she would be heartbroken.

A child without a mother receives no love, and life for them is just bitter.

"Ah! If Mu Sheng were in Shuangshan Brigade, he wouldn’t have been bullied like that."

Though their brigade also had gossiping people, most were quite decent, and at least nobody would dare blatantly bully the elderly and children.
