My Beloved Super Fierce Wife -

Chapter 306: Keep going far after 306.
Li Xiuli patted her aging mother’s rough palms and replied patiently, "They all belong to my household."
"Tangtang and her three siblings all have formal jobs now, life at home has gotten better, and from now on, I will be able to fulfill my filial duties to Dad and Mom."
Life had been tough these past years, to the point where not taking anything from home was already decent enough, let alone being filial.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t distressed.
There would be chances to be filial to her aging parents in the future; Li Xiuli could only feel joyful about this.
Upon hearing his daughter’s words, Old Li felt as if he were dreaming.
Clearing his throat lightly, he said, "Tell me more in detail..."
Li Xiuli took a small wooden stool with a missing leg and sat down beside the bed, and began to tell her parents about the changes in the Lin Family.
Seeing her mother talking with Grandma and Grandpa, Lin Tang prepared two bowls of Malt Extract with hot water.
As the sweet aroma filled the room, it seemed to brighten up the place.
Old Li and Granny Li hadn’t eaten anything proper for at least a month and a half.
Smelling the sweet smell, they couldn’t help but swallow their saliva.
"What’s this? It sure smells nice," Granny Li said shyly.
Li Xiuli’s heart ached with sympathy.
Taking a bowl from Lin Tang’s hands, she passed it to her elderly parents.
"This is Malt Extract, Tangtang bought it for you to nourish your health; Dad, Mom, please have a taste."
Old Li’s hands shook as he accepted the bowl, his eyes becoming teary.
"...Ah, let Dad have a taste; my granddaughter is so filial!"
She was truly much better than the grandkids who had driven them out of the house!
After seeing the head of the family’s spirits lifted, Granny Li turned her face away, wiping the moisture from the corner of her eyes.
A smile began to emerge from under her eyes.
"We’ve talked about so much, yet we’ve forgotten about Qingshan; Xiuli, didn’t you say that Qingshan came too? Where is Qingshan?" Granny Li suddenly remembered to ask.
A pause came over Li Xiuli’s smile.
She found it hard to ignore the fact that Wu Chunhua deliberately did not pass on a message to her.
Though it was a favor for Wu Chunhua to relay messages, not doing so was her duty.
However, having known each other for decades, Wu Chunhua was too cold-hearted concerning such a crucial matter of life and death.
Forget it!
The past was gone; she would just keep her distance in the future.
Having thought it through, Li Xiuli explained, "The Wang family had an accident, Qingshan went to inform Wu’s family about the death..."
"Report a death?" Granny Li’s eyes widened, "Who had an accident?"
She had just seen Chunhua and Wang Jinbao picking wild vegetables the afternoon before, so the accident must have involved either Chunhua’s husband or her daughter!
Li Xiuli: "...It was Wu Chunhua’s daughter, who fell from a ladder; she passed away last night."
Granny Li was momentarily stunned.
Letting out a pained exclamation, she sadly said:
"How did this happen? That girl was about the same age as Tangtang, right? She made it through the famine and grew up; it wasn’t easy at all."
The elderly have soft hearts, and cannot bear to hear such news.
Li Xiuli didn’t want to talk about the Wang family’s affairs, so she skillfully changed the subject.
"Dad, Mom, Tangtang bought a bicycle for the family; from now on, it will be much easier when I come to visit."
"If there’s anything you need, don’t forget to send a message, I’ll be going to let the villagers know later."
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to take her parents home and care for them herself.
But the elderly hold golden nests and silver nests not as dear as their own dog nests and are reluctant to leave their homeland; they fear being judged for relying on their daughters in old age.
They probably wouldn’t be willing to go to Shuangshan Brigade.
Granny Li felt warm inside and didn’t object.
"Your father and I can still work; we won’t be a burden on you for these next few years. When we can’t work anymore, there will be plenty of time to bother you," she said with a smile.
Those deep wrinkles and the white hair made anyone who looked feel a rush of sorrow.
Li Xiuli felt as if there was a stone in her chest and couldn’t say a word.
"How can you talk about being a burden!" Lin Tang spoke up, her voice gentle but with a tinge of displeasure.
There was a slight hint of discontent in her voice.
"Grandpa and Grandma have taken care of my mom since she was little, and my mom looks after both of you, isn’t it only right?"
As she spoke, she pulled out a hundred yuan and stuffed it into Li Xiuli’s hands.
Everyone in the room looked puzzled.
Lin Tang deliberately mentioned the money in front of the older couple, "Mom, this money is my way of honoring you, it’s your own spending money. You can do whatever you want with it, and if it runs out, I’ll give you more."
Truth be told, despite being responsible for a whole family, Li Xiuli had never considered keeping spending money for herself.
This was her first time.
Li Xiuli was completely bewildered.
With a mixture of laughter and tears, she said, "Why do I need spending money? We’re not short of food or shelter at home, I don’t need it."
She reached out to return the money.
Lin Tang held her hand and refused to take it back.
"Why not? You might not need it, Mom, but you can give it to Grandpa and Grandma," she insisted.
This was her sly way of giving the elderly couple some money.
Granny Li waved her hands hastily, "We don’t need it; if you care, just bringing some food will do."
The granddaughter’s thoughtfulness warmed her heart immensely.
"Who would ever complain about having too much money!" Lin Tang said with a laugh, "In life, everything from eating, drinking, relieving oneself, and sleeping requires money."
"There might not be many places to spend money in the village, but they still exist.
If you and Grandpa can’t bear to spend it, then save it; money is security."
After urging the old couple, she looked towards Li Xiuli.
"Mom, my three brothers all have real jobs now, and we’ve built a new courtyard at home. When I go back, let’s discuss giving you and Dad a few dollars each month. Whatever you want to buy or however you want to spend it, it’s up to you."
It was seeing her grandparents’ situation that day that had inspired this idea.
Rural elders have no security.
If their children don’t keep them in mind, their later years could be quite tragic.
Li Xiuli was stunned, then replied after coming back to her senses, "Your dad and I have food and shelter; why do we need money? You all work hard for your earnings; save it for yourselves."
She and her husband could still work; asking for money from their children now would simply be wrong!
Lin Tang sometimes could be quite stubborn.
Particularly when it came to honoring her parents, she was quite resolute.
"I don’t care, I’ll go back and discuss it with my brothers..."
Lin Qingshan entered the room with a smile, "I agree!"
"But Tangtang doesn’t need to pay; Qingshui, Qingmu, and I will take care of it..."
Before he could finish, he met Lin Tang’s deathly glare.
"Big brother, are you trying to create a divide between men and women? Why shouldn’t I contribute? Am I not our parents’ own flesh and blood?" the young girl’s face puffed up like a bun, indignantly speaking.
Lin Tang knew her brother had no ill intentions, yet she still felt uncomfortable.
Perhaps it was the sensation of being left out.
Lin Qingshan, who had only wanted to spare his sister some hardship, was at a loss for words, "I didn’t mean that."
He quickly explained, his normally calm demeanor showing a trace of urgency, "I thought that young girls have more places to spend money; I didn’t mean anything by it..."
Seeing her brother anxious, Lin Tang softened first.
"Alright, alright, I understand what you mean, but I don’t want to be out of step with you guys!"
Lin Qingshan immediately began to reflect.
If he had been excluded, he knew he would have felt uncomfortable.
He replied remorsefully, "I was mistaken."
This event taught him that any words spoken or actions taken under the guise of someone’s welfare are merely disrespect masquerading as love.
Lin Tang smiled faintly, "It’s okay, I know you want what’s best for me."
