In the rest room next to the California Senate Chamber, Lisa and Cheng Daqi were sitting formally in their suits.

The blonde woman clearly was not accustomed to such intense and special occasions.

Thinking about the greetings from many senators she would face soon, the CEO of New Era felt slightly suffocated.

“This is not an arena; everyone inside is older than you.

If a real fight breaks out, you might just cut through them.”

Cheng Daqi’s dark joke was hellish; Lisa couldn’t muster a laugh, but she squeezed out a smile out of social etiquette.

“Will you sit in the spectator seats later?”

If Cheng could sit nearby, she reckoned she’d perform better.

For some reason, seeing the nervous Lisa, Cheng felt like laughing.

Even a powerful woman has her moments of weakness, this just meant she needed more experience.

“Of course, don’t worry.

If someone throws a shoe at you, my shoe size is definitely bigger—I’ll knock them out!”

“Chan, this is the California Senate, no one would be that unethical…”

“Hard to say, shoes were thrown even at the United Nations assembly.

If they trouble you or disrupt your speech, you can remove your high heels and bang on the table to keep them quiet.”

“Stop talking…”

Cheng could really go off on tangents, Lisa felt dizzy listening to him.

The blonde woman miraculously discovered, after a slight tease from Cheng, she wasn’t nervous anymore.

A legislative staff member wearing a badge pushed open the slightly ajar door of the rest room, and addressed Lisa and Cheng Daqi.

“It’s about time, it will start in a few minutes.”

The blonde woman quickly asked.

“Have the documents we submitted been distributed to the senators?”

Seeing the beautiful Lisa, the staff member kindly explained.

“They have been submitted…

However, this type of hearing is special, the senators generally won’t use the materials provided by the questioned as a basis for judgement.”

—————–

The Senate inquiry sounds like an authoritative institution.

You have a question, we inquire, you must explain—sounds great, doesn’t it?

However, this thing is just a tool and a stage for performance.

Tell a joke, Boeing whistleblowers died in heaps, and it still survived the inquiry and continued to profit.

This truth cycles back to America, unfortunately, it’s a fact.

It can only be said, public knowledge holds weight.

“Chan, you’re here?” Will had been waiting in the spectator seats and hurriedly greeted Cheng Daqi as he sat down next to him.

“Does the California Children’s Foundation really need you to personally request funding?”

Idle as he was, Cheng started chatting with Will.

“No way around it, processes must be followed.

I’m the person in charge, had to come here, and it just so happens we bumped into each other, haha.”

Will may be no good, but he still respects Cheng greatly knowing full well Cheng had once outsmarted him and his brother.

“I thought it was engineered by the Honorable Governor himself.”

In fact, Cheng had guessed the truth.

The Governor as bold as Niusen directly sent Will to witness New Era’s application scrutiny.

This was almost like ‘I sit here, you review as needed, don’t mind me’.

An inquiry doesn’t necessarily lead to severe consequences, nor does it mean passing it easily.

Whether it can be passed depends on the person.

At least in California, Will and Lisa are extraordinary individuals—backed by an extraordinary power.

However, Lisa attending personally was perhaps overly cautious.

Lisa, being the CEO of New Era, attended the hearing in person even though Cheng had already secured Niusen.

A second approval was practically guaranteed, but she still attended.

The reason was, retrying to convert New Era into a non-profit required meticulous data preparation for the Senate, and she worked hard on that.

Cheng being the leader of this power group doesn’t mean he could make arbitrary decisions.

Lisa made efforts, and as a leader, he needed to acknowledge those efforts.

Considering everything as a given only works if you don’t care about the opinions of others.

Cheng hadn’t grown to that extent yet.

So, Lisa thought if Cheng personally attended, it would support her and back her up, letting her feel her value.

In a way, this also meant gaining loyalty.

“Haha, don’t mind these things, Chan, but I’m just curious, is Wolf really planning to get married?”

As Geweil asked, Cheng Daqi’s eyebrows furrowed tightly.

What’s happening?

“Aren’t you afraid you might mess up again?”

Niusen, being bold, still dared to assign tasks to Geweil after being conned by his brother, turning into an absurd mess.

“I’ll take it as you’re pushing me…” Geweil replied with a laden tone.

“The arrangement with Tiffany’s boyfriend is already in place, results are imminent, don’t forget, before meeting you, I never had a mishap on the West Coast!”

Cheng nodded slightly and looked towards Lisa, who was adjusting her microphone on stage.

He didn’t trust Geweil, no matter how convincing he seemed, but he trusted Niusen.

Niusen could deceive the voters, but wouldn’t dare deceive Cheng Daqi.

Niusen: Who could deceive you!

Born cunning!

“Look, um, will anyone make it difficult for us?”

Geweil immediately replied.

“Two have been arranged, they will nitpick from start to finish, but as long as you are prepared, there’s no issue, they are just putting on a show.”

“Couldn’t the script be aligned beforehand?” Cheng Daqi felt a bit regretful.
